  1. I can confirm that this is the case in the current version, 8.12; and I do think it used to work, though I couldn't swear to it. In fact, if you search within a note for text that appears only in an image, it will return 0 hits! Yet if you search a group of notes, or all notes, for text that appears in an image, it will return notes containing the image with the text. Very poorly done, IMO.
  2. Hi, and welcome to the forums. Take a close look at the original post in this thread. It's talking about adding a link to a selected bit of text, like this: Evernote Help on sharing Android notes. Links as such can be pasted into notes in Evernote Android, but URLs cannot be attached to text. But you are apparently asking about something else, sharing links to Evernote notes in Android. For info on that, click the link above.
  3. Well.... I think @Athena13 has a fair point or two here. I consider myself a "power user" of several pieces of Windows and Android software, though I'm not a programmer. I could (and probably should, and one day likely will) learn the precise and rather arcane search grammar that some folks here employ on a daily basis to organize their use of Evernote. I've used script-like TSR keystroke playback software (a long time ago, hence "TSR"). But I'd rather find simpler ways of interacting with my Evernote data, and I sure wouldn't expect someone who's just trying to get a little work/hobbying/shopping done to jump through such hoops. Generally, though, I think the most frequent helpers here are sensitive to the varying levels of technical skill and interest of people who post questions. Tags and stacks will have to do, along with basic notebooks, for most EN users; some will find saved searches sensible and fun to use, but many will not. Evernote is clearly not intending, and maybe not in a technical position, to implement multi-level notebooks. As for terminology, I think it's best to call things what the software and its help system call them, to avoid confusion and frustration. Yet I noticed an Evernote employee alumnus referring to "folders" in another thread just now, so it's not an unnatural thing to do. As a retired teacher, I remember just trying to steer folks back to the standard terminology, and trying not to be heavy-handed about it.
  4. Thanks, @Nick L.. I don't often gripe about what updates cover, but.... Maybe those were just the low-hanging fruit, but they don't sound like problems affecting lots of users in lots of situations. I could well be wrong about that, of course. But I sure hope this one gets fixed in 8.13: And this one:
  5. There is a long-standing request for this feature. Please go there and cast your vote for it by clicking the up arrow at the top of the page.
  6. Hi, and welcome to the forums! Did you read through the thread and check out some of the suggestions? Main thing is to be sure you use a unique password for Evernote, as hackers are using stolen lists of passwords for other sites to try to get into Evernote.
  7. People often report issues with the Microsoft Store version of Evernote. It may be better to uninstall that, go to www.evernote.com, and scroll down to the bottom to find the link to download the app directly from there.
  8. Hi, and welcome to the forums! You won't lose any notes, since they are stored permanently on the Evernote servers--that is, you won't lose anything if you have synced your most recent additions and edits, and if you can't connect to the server you can't do that. So do be careful here. You can find where the notes are located by going to the Tools menu, then Options > General. On the right side at the bottom will be a blue link to open the folder where the note database is. But the database is in a proprietary format, and you can't just examine it to be sure everything is there. But you could copy it to a safe location before uninstalling. After that, things would get complicated. But it seems to me that the first thing to sort out is why you can't connect to the Evernote server. That could be a temporary glitch in your Internet service, or in Evernote's, or somewhere in between. If all the connections seem to be working on your end (you can go online, browse the Web, get email, etc.), then give it another try. If you still can't connect, it's conceivable that you've entered the wrong logon credentials. It's surprisingly easy to swap email addresses and even create a new, empty account. I'd recommend first going to the Evernote Web interface: https://www.evernote.com/client/web. Log on there, and see if all your notes are present and updated. If they are, then you're safe, and you can uninstall Evernote from your computer and reinstall it, and let it download all the notes. But if you still can't connect with the server, that still won't work. You might want to reach out to Evernote support via Twitter, which I believe is available to Basic users.
  9. Hmm. On the Play Store, I see an app just called Evernote, and one called Evernote for Android Wear (the full name doesn't show up on the initial page). Is that what you're seeing? Unless you're putting it on a watch, the one just called "Evernote" is what you want. If you're seeing two apps just called Evernote, could you post a screenshot here?
  10. @Suddoman, @George Mmm, @Loguix: Please see the following ongoing thread on this problem, which was started about a month after this one: I've contacted support about this problem, and "they're working on it." But if others who have Premium and Plus accounts also contact them, and send them the information they will request, perhaps it will help them get an idea of the scope and characteristics of the problem.
  11. I've highlighted the key point here. Autosave timing can be adjusted in Tools > Options > Note > Automatically save edited note every N seconds But of course if you've added or changed a lot of material and want to be very sure it isn't lost, e.g., by a computer crash or power outage, then you're going to want to save it, and you're going to lose the viewing position in the other window. I agree that it is annoying. Similar phenomena were under discussion last year in this thread:
  12. Ah yes, green on black! I think I did move up to amber on black at one point. I also had a pre-Windows word processor that used yellow on dark blue. I don't know if it's good for me, but the fact is that I feel more like I'm writing with a paper-like white background.
  13. Sorry, that was pretty snarky. I do recognize that dark mode is in fact a deal-breaker, essentially a health-and-well-being issue for some people.
  14. Paul, I checked out your blog posts. From what I can see there, dark mode is the primary, almost the only factor in your decision, along with the evaluation that ON is about at parity with EN (which I assume is correct) and that EN is in serious trouble and is abandoning EN for Windows (which is rank speculation, verging on FUD). I also note that, in exploring OneNote's forums for issues around initial import and organization, you learned that "Apparently, people just deal with this nonsense. It seems crazy to me."--pretty much exactly what some folks (not you) say here about EN and its users. So, I hope it goes well for you, and best wishes for, um, pretty much exactly what you already had, but with dark mode.
  15. Hi, and welcome to the forums. I just tested this, again, and once again got only a note in Google's own low-end little notes system. Nothing went to Evernote. What version of Android and what type of device do you have? Actually, what's your service provider as well? I'm on a Samsung phone with Android 9 and Verizon. Verizon is known to make its own little modifications to Android.
  16. Do those other apps have dark mode in their Windows Store versions only? For some reason, problems with the Windows Store version of Evernote get reported here fairly frequently, introduced by something Windows does to the app in putting it into the Store. I can understand why Evernote would not want to introduce a feature available only in the Windows Store version, without a lot of ground-up programming to get it into the regular app. This, I think, is the most important point, avoiding speculations (including mine) about what Evernote is capable of doing and why and when. For some people, the eyestrain issue is first and foremost, preventing work from getting done. So I hope that Evernote will indeed do this; but in the meantime, it may indeed be necessary for those for whom this is the primary issue to find other tools.
  17. I do this forum on Windows, and there I type @ followed by the first letters of the name. A list of possible names pops up, and I keep typing till I get the one I want, or at least till it is close enough to select. I don't know if it can be done on Android.
  18. These are mainly user-to-user forums, so they're not a good way of communicating directly with Evernote. Since you're a Premium subscriber, you do have the option of contacting Evernote support and asking them to help get your note back. Sometimes, at least, I think they've been able to do that.
  19. Hi @Tinabor, and welcome to the forums! What kind of device are you using to read Apple News+? Is it an app or a Website? And how are you sharing to Evernote? Those details may help get closer to an answer. For instance, in a Website in my Windows-based browser, I can select text and share just the selection to Evernote using Web clipper.
  20. Yes, that's what I meant. It does seem like it's the same issue. @Shane D., thanks for the response. I just had it happen again yesterday, when I updated a note I had made a couple of years ago. Very frustrating. I copied everything from that note into a new one and it synced/uploaded just fine.
  21. Does this have anything to do with Evernote? This forum is for "general technical issues" related to Evernote.
  22. Hi, and welcome to the forums. I'd be almost certain that when logging in you accidentally used a different credential--a different username or email address--and thus did in fact create a brand new account. How did it come about that Evernote forced you to change your password? I've never seen that. Try logging in again, being sure to use the email address and/or username you used for your existing account.
