  1. If the phone is an iPhone, my solution is ScannerPro from readdle. Does good scans as pdf or JPEG, and OCRs even multipage documents on the fly.The OCR gets very good when just one language is selected in OCR settings. Since EN notices when a pdf comes ready with OCR data, it will take them, include them into the index and will not try another OCR on the server. Plus an OCRed pdf will most times be smaller in size than the picture-only version. With predifined workflows the result can be send into EN, ready with the right notebook and standard tags, depending on the workflow picked.
  2. The workaround d is not really working (especially cross-device). Got my vote, change & comment history would be an asset, specially in professional use with shared notes.
  3. Is there a reason why this doc is a JPEG ? For text JPEG is probably the least suited format of all common file types. The compression works fine on colored fotos, but for printed text I would rather prefer pdf or in case it should be a pic TIFF, if possible in B&W. TIFF compression on a text-image is very efficient, and the result nearly as good in legibility as an uncompressed picture. And yes, you can read it as a JPEG as well, and EN should index it ...
  4. If I take my usual 10MB JPEGs, I am done with a limit of appr. 20 pics per note, table or not. If I want more pics in an EN note, I have to downgrade quality. This creates an additional step in the workflow, and I have to set up links to the original pics for full res. If I use my usual RAWs with 25MB/piece, or throw in a HDR-combination, a panorama .... Yes, it can be done, but good photo software will do a better job in nearly every context. If I want to document all the stuff that does not go into the photos metadata, I put the photos into a folder, and link it to the note. For this, Graphics Converter is good, because it uses a traditional folder-structure for the main photo catalog. I can create „smart albums“ from this stock, but the basic structure is link-able. This is one reason why I prefer it over the Photos app.
  5. My experience: Organizing photos in EN makes plain and simple no sense. Yes, you can do many things with a Multitool, but none of them perfectly. And especially with photos, EN is far from being even in the range of tolerable tools. This is, you can organize all stuff in EN, but to have it organized, not to have a good photo archive maybe even of high-resolution material, ready to use or work on. If you want to organize photos on a Mac, the Photos app is not the worst thing to use. Combined with Power Photos, you can set up several Media-Databases to work on, select photos using the intelligent album feature etc. If you want something more like Lightroom, maybe try Graphics Converter. It is purchased software, no abo, and has powers far beyond what a Multitool like EN allows (for example batch processing for all sort of metadata, sorting and applying stuff to JPEGs and then copying this and trimming the RAWs correspondingly etc.). Your data is with the fotos, and then you can create albums based on tags, location, ranking, date, ..., export, share etc. For Backup, I simply use iCloud with the 2TB plan for the offsite copy, plus Time Machine to my NAS. An alternative with unlimited cloud storage and cheaper than iCloud would be Backblaze - but only if you have a large memory on your device, because it will not save network locations, only the computer itself. For a 128GB-Mac it is expensive, for a 2TB reasonable ...
  6. ... and you can check for unknown devices there as well, under your account information. - No unknown access, nobody hacked into the account. Probably you use the new or the beta version of the web client, or another EN client. There are known issues when these do not show all existing notes. Solution: Downgrade to a stable version. - Unknown device + IP, probable unknown access. Then somebody got your account credentials (not from EN !), and used them to enter your account. Change your PW immediatedly (to a good one, not used on any other account), withdraw autorisation for the unknown device, and enable 2-FA. This is possible for Basic accounts as well, but only with limited options for the generation of the second factor.
  7. It is simple: Do not beta on any device you need, for work, for the data, for anything serious. If you decide to use a beta for anything serious, nothing is awful but your own decision to install.
  8. Good there is competition. And good everybody has a choice (or better some of them). Bad is when somebody locks himself into one solution, does not like it and starts whining around how miserable the world has become. You can IMHO find examples here in the forum. One thing I like about EN: If you do not like it (any more), there are migration possibilities into other solutions. EN does not make leaving difficult, they are not locking users in. This possibility to take my data and leave is something I would always check before starting into something new.
  9. Maybe this is due to the different structure of the database between Windows and Mac. On Windows, EN rests in a database. Here, changing the date is changing a database entry. On a Mac, there is a folder-structure, with each note comprising a folder with several files. Probably changing this property of a folder or file is prohibited by the OS.
  10. The restrictions of the mobile clients result from limitations of the OSes. These are mainly the lack of real multitasking, and a felt lack of memory, RAM and permanent. With the newer devices, both is no more true from the devices themselves. An iPad Pro is at least playing on the same level as a small MacBook. The game is open now for iPadOS. There will be a sort of multitasking, at least more than we used to have. Editing multiple notes in one go, merging notes etc. ?! The file system will be opened up, creating a better chance to exchange data between apps. Real web clipper instead of the share function ?! Local notebooks etc. So I hope that at least the new iPad version of EN will get much closer to the desktop version. Maybe not in the first release, but the potential is there.
  11. You can do so using iOS 12 and EN app 8.22 - for now. If „using“ means you have something serious at hand, you should stick with the official releases. Betas are not only prone to crash, they may take down your data as well.
  12. No crashes on Windows, Mac and iOS. The „freezing“ of the iOS app got eliminated with a recent release to 8.21. No experience with Androids. From other threads in the forum, I would regard the Android app as the least stable at the moment. With Windows, have you tried creating the notes in local notebooks (non syncing), and move / copy them to their destination after the note is completed? It will mean that note creation and sync will take place one after the other. Or quit the WiFi on the laptop before you start taking notes. They will sync after you reestablish connection. Both is not permanent, just to find out whether syncing plays a role. With Android, I can’t help you. Tried Support yet ?
  13. Two options: You logged into a wrong account, maybe created one on the fly by misspelling your account name. You are using the beta or the „new“ web client. Both are know to have „issues“. So downgrade to the old version, and the notes will show again. They are still there all the time, just not visible in the new clients.
  14. When you have created the note, is it just stopping once at the beginning of your typing, and from then on works fine, or is it stopping over and again ?
  15. Since I still have no problem, I still have no solution. Tried Support on this (however mixed the experience seems to be ...) ?
  16. Sorry, no idea then. Maybe try this, open to Basic users as well: https://twitter.com/evernotehelps
  17. Here is some more: https://evernote.com/blog/evernote-migration-to-google-cloud-platform/ The data is encrypted on the way (https-type, a common encryption standard on the internet), and on the servers by Googles own data management. Because https can be attacked by „man-in-the-middle“-setups, you should use a VPN when on a WiFi you do not trust (= all public WiFis, and maybe some closed ones as well). Plus activate 2FA on your account. When the new European legislation on data protection got effective last year, I have signed a data processing agreement with EN. By this putting my (clients) data into EN rests on a legally sound foundation. EN is certified to do this, amazingly some other popular cloud services are not. If you want to have special data very secure, you should use an additional service. For example account data with passwords etc. should not be filed on a service like EN, the same with credit cards, online banking keys etc. . I use 1Password for this stuff, that comes along with 1GB of encrypted cloud storage for „safe notes“. This encryption works differently, it is encrypted „end-to-end“, so the decrypted version is only created on your own device while using the app.
  18. My preference is clearly to have my pdfs inside of EN and on the server. This is the only way to have synced access from all devices, and a working search function. In other words: This is what EN is all about. If size matters, like with a BASIC account, there are some tips: If you create the pdf yourself, try to do your own OCR. OCRed pdfs tend to be smaller. And with BASIC, the EN server will not OCR it for you. If there is no OCR, try to reduce resolution. One way to do this is to „print“ the pdf on a desktop, and reduce resolution in the printer settings to 150dpi. On a Win10-PC I use Adobe Reader to show the pdf, and PDF Complete (free version) as a „printer“ to create the reduced-resolution-file. Only issue (with Premium): OCR will work less precise if the resolution is reduced. Collect your pdfs outside of EN for a while, then buy one month of Premium, and use the upload limit of 10GB to get the stuff there. Even when scanning and filing a lot, I did not ever hit the 10GB-limit. After the month, you can go back to basic, even when by this you loose some very nice search capabilities. But all your notes will still be there, and accessible. Just take care not to make changes to large notes, this will be regarded as a new upload.
  19. Try the Belgian beer then, the little brands. The monasteries there used to brew their own, and this made a tradition of good, strong stuff in many variations - long before this got reinvented and called „craft“.
  20. Sorry, but this is simply not true: You can choose „Location“ in your settings, and the location will be recorded (if available) and as well shown in the information section of a note. On my iPad there is a little Google map showing with a pin where the note was created. So if you have the locator running on your device, and if you have your settings set, you will record the geodata of where you created a note. What this thread is about is an overview map-style showing the creation location of a number of notes. This existed and was taken out of the functionality 2 yrs ago. If you would like to have this back, place your vote. Photographers hint: There are a number of programs where the geolocation can be added to pics, if not already in the EXIF-information. This can be done in after-shot processing, batch-style (select all pics from one place, and add the geolocation). Because the location of a photo shooting will often not be the same place as the location where a note with this photo inside will be created, I think tagging the picture itself is better than relying on a program like EN to geotag the „picture container“. But if wanted, see above.
  21. Question 1: Are you sure you logged into your existing account ? It can easily happen to create a second account by accident, just by misspelling. Question 2: If 1 does not apply, which client do you use to enter ? There are known issues with the WebClient, new versions / beta. Downgrading to an older version usually brings back everything.
  22. Would be nice if you find your example, to get back here. Maybe issue a support ticket as well. For me WebClipper in the simplified mode is important, and I just take it for granted (maybe I shouldn’t) that a clipped page is clipped entirely, regarding the core content. Don‘t want to check this all the time.
  23. If you look at the accounts possible, Premium is regarded as a personal account. So you can share, but control over the share is limited in itself, and as observed restricted to notes and notebooks. If you want to handle information flow and accessibility in a business environment, there is the option of the Business account. It allow through the Spaces feature to define who can read and contribute to which segment of the total data base of your business. This is run by an admin, not by switching individual shares on and off. New team member - simple to add; outgoing team member - easy to handle, even if you distribute the work load to several team members. Even if you think you do not need this today, when you grow it will make sense for sure. And it will take an effort to make the switch when you have to do it, because the work-arounds needed with a bunch of Premium accounts will stand in your way. Just unifying the individual tags into one structure will be a nightmare. Maybe see it the other way: The business part of the account cost the same as a Premium for each team member, and all team members get a own Premium account for free as well. Great place to work at ! And no, I am getting a bounty from EN when I get you convinced ... I‘v just seen too many overwhelmed IT installations in my life in small and growing businesses that made the whole place perform below the capabilities of its team.
