  1. I am not sure of this - since I started directly with a Premium Account, I have no experience with a Basic account, and what happens if you update the client. And I do not know how new notes are treated when the upload limit is exceeded. It is just a fact that the desktop clients for windows and Mac keep a local database on the machine itself. The cloud server will have the lead copy of the data, but many operations are executed on the local client. So if Sync is off, you will see what your local copy holds as long as you are on the desktop client. Mobiles and the Web client will show what is on the cloud server. So if you say things got bad from the moment you updated, it seems that the update forced a sync, turning copies that were local (with pictures) into synced copies (without pictures) somehow. Since EN is first and dominating a cloud based service, this would make sense, even if you regard it as a mistake. It regards the cloud copy as Master, all the others are slave copies, to be updated from the cloud. But again, I am assuming this - assuming is not knowing. If you want notes not to be synced, you are free to put them into Notebooks defined as „local“. They will not sync, but this means as well the only copy is the one on your desktop disk drive. Thus if you do not have a backup, this is it if the local disk goes bad. With synced notebooks, the copy is safely put away on the cloud server. So you have at least one copy somewhere else when your house burns to the ground, with your computer right in there. Conclusion: You can have your own copies in any amount stored in EN, but not synced, or you can have the comfort and security of the cloud synced notes. If you exceed the upload limit, you can have this only when paying for it. The guys at EN have to put something into their fridge as well, so I think it is fair they expect a payment when using the service to some extend.
  2. No, just works fine on my Mac / Mojave. How did you do the uninstall ? Maybe get something like AppCleaner, and make a complete uninstall before reinstalling. When you cleaned out, restart the Mac to have a clean starting point.. Hint: If you do uninstall everything, all not synced and all local notebooks will get lost. Make sure you synced and have exports or backups of the locals. And the database will be rebuild from the EN servers, which may take a while depending on the size and internet connection. When reinstalling I would use the direct download. Even when the AppStore offers the same version, this will run in a sandbox mode which caused problems on my Mac. They were solved with using the direct download.
  3. Maybe take a look at the Cornell-Template in the Templates section, and derive something from this. It is designed more for students, but maybe the structure of information, key findings, open ends and things to follow up is similar.
  4. If you are working on the windows client, there is a local copy of data on your drive. Probably it was there where all the notes were saved that could not sync. And if you are running a backup of your PC, there is a chance you can recover at least some of the local database from the backup. This should be a backup created on a date before you installed the update, and started the other operations intended to save your data. All data entered after the update will most likely be without picture, I‘m afraid. If you want to save larger amounts of data in the future without a paid account, you can create local notebooks on your desktop account. They will not save to the EN cloud servers, so no upload limit. But as these notebooks are local, you can not access them from other devices, and you have to make sure yourself to have a backup. I run an automated backup job on my PC every day just saving my EN database. On my Mac TimeMachine takes care of that.
  5. What I do not get from the postings is on which device Scannable is running in the two initial posts here. Just looked it up on my iPhone, and options are few and pretty clear. Not much room for mistakes here. Anyhow, before scanning away dozens o hundreds of docs, I would always propose to do a test run. There is much on the way that can go wrong. Personally I use ScannerPro from readlle, which works fine as a scanner, has its own OCR capability plus allows for customized workflows that select a notebook, add tags and send everything into Evernote. Another option is to scan with the Evernote app directly, by creating a note and hitting the camera option. IMHO there is little room left for a solid usecase of Scannable.
  6. Windows updates have been a pain in the ass since about one year now. I was quite happy with Win10 until then. But it was time to change something, after I ran into an updating issue that brought CPU usage to 100% for days, and filled my system SSD up to the last byte. I moved to a Mac in April, and use the PC just for some leftover programs. I have Parallels installed on the Mac as VM, with Win10 Pro, but have not found the time yet to really work it through and install the last win programs there. I think that running Win10 with just a few programs in a VM will allow a pretty clean installation that will not case trouble by interfering stuff. For the rest, the Mac is doing fine. The OS is much cleaner than Windows.
  7. By the way: I admire your energy in solving this issue. Can be pretty frustrating on the way ...
  8. I have a different approach to deal with the „setback“ issue: I have Acronis running on my PC, creating a copy of my EN database every day to my NAS, with keeping versions several weeks backwards. It is not that much data, and the NAS can take it easily. Syncing is on, every 5min.
  9. If you read through the thread, you will find that shutting off some sticky processes through its settings while keeping it running did the job. Since I am not running this SW, I can’t replicate. And it seems this was not the only issue, because others here report they were not running SP at all and still had some freezing. Seems I somehow avoided all that stuff, because my EN is running just fine on Windows (plus Mac + iOS)
  10. Have you yet tried to reorganize the EN database ? Hold down strg before clicking on the Help menu. Below the usual items there will be a list of new menu items. You can try if one of these advanced options helps with your problem. They will reorganize the EN database, rebuild the search index etc.
  11. Since you have the problem, and are paying your dues, I would propose that you issue a support ticket - and let us, especially @MikeRothLA who is on BASIC know what will be the outcome of it. Thanks !
  12. „It’s back ...“ leads to the question „what has changed ?“. In this thread was zero traffic since January and the release of 6.17. This does not speak for a continuing problem. Did you update the EN client, Windows, something else etc. ?
  13. Depending on the browser you can open the list of all cookies, and only delete what you want to delete. Most cookies will have pretty cryptic names, but EN cookies usually are named EVERNOTE + something. When you just delete those, you can give it a try. „Delete all“ will pretty much reset everything dealing with the internet. Sometimes I think doing this is not a bad thing, however ....
  14. Your laptop is a windows machine, a Mac or a Chromebook ? Difficult to help with so little information !
  15. There was some issue about the EN special edition scanners from Fujitsu. I own a standard ix500, so I just know about from this forum. There was some inconsistency between the old EN edition scanner software and changes in MacOS and/or EN for Mac. It may be that you need to install the new firmware of a standard ix500 on your EN edition. It will stop to be a EN edition scanner and loose the specific functions. But it will continue to work. The change in the scanners firmware can not be turned back ! So before going down this path, recheck this: Here in the forum are threads about this issue, the why and the relevant MacOS and EN versions etc. Fujitsu Support should know about this as well.
  16. Probably this question should be posted with support, account issues.
  17. Thanks - was writing from memory, PC was down for the night.
  18. Depends on the size of your EN database, and how much you add. If you hold the alt-Key before clicking on the help menu in the EN app, there will be more options added to the help menu, below the usual menu items. Among them are tools to reorganize the EN search index and database. Maybe try some those to trim the data structure. Before starting this, make sure you have a copy of the EN data base, just in case ... you can anyhow rebuild from the EN server, but it will take longer.
  19. The guys behind FF try to keep the only independent alternative to chrome-based browsers afloat. Remember, Microsoft quit to develop Edge independently. Google tries to build a monopoly around chrome, like they try to do with Android in the mobile world. Why ? To make more money, I think. What from ? From the data they get by sending a maximum of internet traffic through their products. Our data, yours and mine and everybody’s. So I believe it is in the interest of us all to have a choice, nor only in the front end but in the engine that drives the browser as well. Thus, for me it is important that EN continues to adapt it’s Products (especially WebClipper and WebClient) to Firefox as well. *** end of FF promotion, make it for free ***
  20. Whether your laptop is underpowered depends on what you want to do on it. If it is office-type stuff, you should be fine. But I would think twice before starting video rendering or heavy code compilation, especially because often the i5es installed on laptops are of the special energy saving mobile type. From my observation, startup time of EN depends on how much syncing is going on when starting. When I have not used my PC for some days (because being on Mac and iOS meanwhile), and have added some content to my account, EN will feel slow because it first tries to get everything updated. If it is connected via (slow) WiFi type n or b , it will feel slower again. The real startup time should be negligible if you run app and data from an SSD.
  21. As long as you are signed in, there is not problem with being offline when opening EN. It will just open fine, PC or Mac. This is true for as long as the sign in is valid, which is usually for one year. It is just the sign in that requires an internet connection - and of course all that syncing that is a core EN function. The need to have an internet connection is the same on desktop and mobile clients. Conclusion: If I know that I will likely be without an Internet link when opening EN for the next time, I should not sign off before.
  22. I am not against using a Pi - if you want to use one, fine. Especially the newest model has enough horsepower to run a lot more applications than before. The subject of this thread was about needing a PC / Mac active when you want to scan. With the mobile apps plus the Fujitsu cloud, a mobile device will do as well (and a 3,1415927... ).
  23. @Rona „Same thing“ means you can’t access a share, or that it suddenly works again ?
  24. Since you are on premium, you should be able to do this through the normal support contact as well. Sometimes the 1st level will be not that responsive, so try to get passed on to 2nd level support. This usually helps.
  25. Fujitsu offers ScanSnapCloud. Through this my ix500 works directly with my iPad or iPhone, for example. From there, it can upload into EN, or other cloud services.
