  1. OK, depends on the volume. Currently, I use my INBOX to collect stuff, and then distribute it further adding tags, sometimes a little text and assigning notebooks. If I have some similar notes, I choose them as a group on a desktop client, assign them all the tags, and move them off into their notebook. Following GTD, I try to have my INBOX empty daily, at least once a week. I do better on the later than the former 😂
  2. @Atul MishraSearch is pretty solid, OCR is sometimes off, and depending a lot on the original copy if created by scanning (fonts, print quality, alignment etc.). Hint: If a pdf was OCRed before, EN will not OCR it again. Then the original OCR is decisive for search quality. To test the quality of your own OCR (from an app, software like Nuance delivered with many scanners etc.), create some documents of different print quality with your own OCR and without, upload them, wait a little until EN servers did their OCR, and compare the results by performing some searches. This can not be done directly, because the original OCR will be embedded in the pdf file, whereas EN will not modify the uploaded file. The safest way to recover what you need is adding your own information to a note, be it by a „speaking“ title, tags or text written to the note itself. On a Mac, the Spotlight search currently will only find note text from the titles (no tags, no text within notes). I prefer tagging.
  3. Thanks for the head up. Is file vault running ? I had problems during the first days on my new MBP, that were tracked to the initial encryption process. After this was through, things returned to normal. But o.k., I have not yet tried to move 1000+ notes around.
  4. Most of the breaches are several years old, some even older than 10 years. The largest one was at AOL years ago, if I remember it correctly. It is somehow weird that people have their accounts hacked in year 2019 with passwords stolen in (say) 2008. Plus what was a solid PW in 2008 is today just a small morning brute force training for a GPU needing some warm up to do the real stuff. So even if it was changed a little, this is most likely not enough with today capabilities, although EN up to my knowledge does not allow brute force attacks through their servers. The data from this breaches is sold on the Internet in large batches for amazingly little money. So the hacking can come from disaster kid sitting in his homely bedroom bored by his homework as from professionals searching for bitcoin wallet data. For me the 2FA is the single most EN specific measure one can apply who has done everything else before to protect his data. Most important of this is using a strong, application-specific password for each access. To create and maintain these without falling into a pattern, a good PW-manager is essential.
  5. The actual version of EN for Mac is 7.10 - you say you are still on 7.2. Maybe your version simply does not reflect templates because it was developed before templates were released, and does not cover this feature ?
  6. Maybe I have less use for it because my active stuff is in Things, not in Evernote. If I want to follow up on a Evernote note, I create a link and create a Things task via sharing. Things has more options than EN, like repetitive tasks, a separation between start date and deadline, setting up a project structure for a group of tasks etc. Sure this leads to some double information content, but IMHO it works better than try to emulate everything in EN.
  7. For me it is weird that the function of an app after installing should depend on the installation file to be on the machine. If this does not fix itself by de- and reinstalling, maybe you could contact Apple support on this. I do not think this is likely to be a specific problem of EN, more probable that something is amiss on the Mac itself.
  8. Thanks for elaborating. Maybe because I do not use templates much, I have not felt the need to automate this. In general I agree that templates should come pre-loaded with as much information as possible. Tags and title elements seem to be a logical extension of note content, which at the moment is what templates will carry along.
  9. You must only search the Forum to learn that it is definitely not a common hobby to tweak .enex files, neither on your daily work nor just for the fun of doing so. No group of Enex-Tweakers as a vivid subforum, not much to be found about it etc. Sure it can be done ... Before learning the „how“ I would like to understand the „why“ ! What is the usecase for this ?
  10. Have you activated 2-Factor-Authentication yet ? This is the single most effective measure against others entering your EN account. You assume that your PW must have been stolen from an EN server - which is blaming them not to look for the safety of your login credentials. Even if your PW is application specific (and really good, and well protected, etc.), it is much more likely that it was stolen from your own devices or activities. Just a few possibilities to think about: - Login in while on a public hotspot without using a VPN - Having malware on your own PC or Android phone (Macs and iOS devices seem to be more robust against that sort of attack). The modern dark stuff can be removed in one way only: Get a new PC - and pray you have a backup that is not affected. - Accessing the EN account through another PC, at the hotel, the library, the college, the office, .... The likeliness of loosing access data in your personal sphere is much higher than somebody to break into EN servers, steal the salt & hash recipes, recalculate the access data and then pick your account first of nearly all to play games. Because if others would be attacked in a high number, you would hear the rumble. As long as you do not find & fix it, more of your personal information can be taken from you through the same means.
  11. Same with me, direct download, install and off and away with the downloaded file. But that it works for us will probably not help @anna@annawolf.com My next question would be if there was EN installed on the Mac before, or if it is a first installation. if it is the first run, maybe to clean it out with something like AppCleaner app and start fresh would be the best solution. At least theoretically, up to now I did not have to set my EN back on my Mac.
  12. I share your experience that EN customer support can be hard to take - you post one question, and they get back to you with a series of questionnaires that would serve any senior grade informatics examen at university. My impression is that they want to exclude that the problem is peripherical. No easy feat if you look at the many combinations of hard- and software the app has to coexist on, especially with Windows and Android systems. Mac and iOS is much cleaner on this, I think. Good luck !
  13. Normally when something like this happens it is because by accident you have created a second account. This can happen easily. No need to panic, your notes will be there, but in another place than the one you are currently looking at. Please check this first.
  14. To add some MacOS to the thread: Just moved today some pictures into EN on my MacBookPro by drag and drop from the Photos app. Among them was a panorama of appr. 13MB, all others were in the 3-8 MB range. On this largest file I‘ve got a message that the import of such a large picture would only be possible by saving it as a file, and importing it to the note via file attachment, not by darg&drop. However the panorama was imported, but on a reduced resolution - which was fine for me, because I did not really need the full resolution picture in my note. So it seems on a Mac there is a limit of picture size for the D&D somewhere in between 8MB and 13MB, probably at 10MB. EN will take larger files as well, so I assume it is more an OS issue than an EN restriction. The only real limit I know about is the 200MB for a note in total.
  15. Would be nice to have for all of us, depending on the use case for sure be very helpful. But I think the world will still be turning, the sun will rise and the birds will sing if it does not happen right now. The priorities of EN are made pretty clear, and it is NOT to push out a load of ill designed, untested and bugged releases. By the contrary, they engage in doing boring stuff like solving a lot of trouble that is within the software we all are using today. I am fine with this approach, even if it means that the multicolor highlighter may be some way down the road, together with other features we all would love to get. But quality over features is o.k. with me. Anyhow, I voted for this feature as well.
  16. In general yes, plus unify the mobile Apps in terms of tag hierarchy with the desktop clients. iOS will show all tags, but looses the hierarchy as well.
  17. No, this is a completely user driven party. EN staff visits some time, and admins the forum, but usually they show only when an issue that concerns a larger group a) need further input to work on or b) there is a workaround or a new release with a solution. For official support, you can place a request (ticket) through the Help&Support section on your client, or use the chat function. Both is open for paying users. Because growing the user base of Business accounts is important to EN, I think they will be quite responsive. Because I am not on a Business account, I can make some good guesses, but not really solve a question like yours. If the exchange of ideas here does not solve something, official support is the next thing to try.
  18. It is for sure not a fair characterization. Ian Small has posted a new information on the editor improvements a couple of hours ago, telling a bit about how they involve users in the different stages of testing, and how they treat the input they receive from the field tests. A lot is of course de-bugging, but with some things they go back and try to include them into the new release. This guy knows what he talks about, and I especially like his repeated promises not to promise, but to deliver, in high quality and with proven features. For me, he is a man to be taken by his word.
  19. With me still no problem since the download of all that stuff went through. Updated to 8.21 in the meantime, still everything is working just fine. Except of trash and a notebook I use for archiving, all other notebooks are now offline on my iPad. On my iPhone I depend much more on the server notes, because I have not made much offline available there. But it is working as well, now on 8.21, no issues. Even when on mobile and with 3G, the app is fully responsive, except for the short breaks when it is actively downloading something after opening a note.
  20. ??? @CalSYou’ve lost me with this sentence. Could you please give some more details ?
  21. If you are alone with your business account, you will automatically be treated as admin. No switching possible, because you will be admin or user as a Status, not as 2 Accounts you can switch in between. Tried with support on this already ?
  22. Just thinking loud: With 8.21 they explicitly said they made the app faster. Maybe this needs a feature not yet implemented in 13beta. In the millions of rows of code a modern OS will bring along, betas are often lacking some modules, that are still under construction or that do not fit into the new framework. If un- and reinstalling won’t help, you may have to decide between the iOS beta or using the web version of EN for a while. Or try support ...
  23. OK, but 13 is still early beta. Standard procedure with iOS is uninstall and reinstall from the App Store. If this helps in this case depends whether the app is happy within iOS 13, or not. I am not running betas (have to work on my gadgets, and need a reliable platform), so no experience on that. With the 8.20 I had a freezing / unresponsive issue on my ipad. This I had caused myself, because I had set all of my notebooks to offline before. So every time I opened the app, it started to move data from the server. This was visible by the spinning data sync wheel. Since the notebooks are fully downloaded, the problems are gone.
