  1. The first line in the article is Note: This article only applies to the older version of Evernote for Windows. With the latest versions of Evernote, there is no single "database" Data is stored at Windows C:/users/<youraccount>/appdata/roaming /evernote Mac /Users/<youraccount>/Library/Application Support/Evernote >I'd like to create a backup of my notes. Think about how to use this backup to restore data This is a local optional copy; the master version of your data is stored on the Evernote servers
  2. My experience is with Evernote Legacy on a Mac; the export function includes all the internal links Of course the links point to records in the Evernote database When I imported the data to a different product, I used a script (Applescript) to convert the links to the new database
  3. Evernote Legacy supported a client product optimized for Mac computers My impression is that Evernote's direction is cloud based, instead of optimization for specific platforms
  4. Not currently an Evernote feature It's a feature of third party Filterize Filterize also offers you an address for every notebook. Just go to the mail-in page at Filterize and paste your Evernote email address there. Now, you can use the Filterize mail-addresses. Every notebook has a distinct one.
  5. ENScript (Windows) and Applescript (Mac) integration were dropped with the v10 implementation Personally, I have lost faith for their return, and have not upgraded to v10
  6. I store/organize all my receipts (scans, emails, ...) and use tags to identify the categories (examples !car-xxxxx, !work-xxxxxx, !budget-xxxxxx) I also pad the title with the important details I'm not a fan of maintaining lists The computer does a great job of generating lists, filtered by tags With the Evernote Legacy product and scripting, I can also export the list to a spreadsheet for enhanced features
  7. Welcome to the Evernote product user discussion forum My experience is as a long-term Evernote Legacy user (Mac and iPad) All my notes/documents/files were stored/accessed in the Evernote database Be aware that Evernote uses a note paradigm; notes are the base unit Additional files (pdfs, images, ...) can be stored; but only as note file attachments ---------- Be aware that Evernote's primary organization tool is Tags For example Instead of filing information in folder/subfolder/subfolder/Insurance I assign tag !Insurance There's also a less functional Stack/Notebooks feature Some users are more comfortable with this; relating it to traditional folder/subfolders
  8. This is not an "Evernote delete" event; the server data will not be impacted >when I erase some files on my local drive they are getting erased on the Evernote server as well. How did you "erase some files". Was it a delete event?
  9. Be aware that Evernote is a cloud service, and local note storage is an option It is difficult to retrieve a single note from Time Machine backups Note contents are stored in a single giant .sql file Attachments are stored separately, with a separate folder for each note As per the other comments, try retrieving from Evernote's Note History backup
  10. I edited my post to add local (Evernote Legacy) Offline notes is a different concept and is still alive
  11. Evernote uses notebooks to identify notes as: - shared - offline - local (Evernote Legacy)
  12. fwiw In my database, these would be tags and a single generic Filing notebook !Bills !Vendor-aaaaaaaaa !Budget-aaaaaaaaa
  13. My personal story As an Apple user, I found the Evernote Legacy equivalent with Devonthink In fact, an improvement imho No problems with data transfer via enex export, and html note format is maintained (my preferred format) Downsides - Apple only - No cloud web access
  14. My solution is applescript on a Mac I process monthly csv transaction files from the bank , creating individual notes Using Evernote Legacy, I can directly create notes in Evernote With the v10 product, I would create text files in the import folder >does anyone know of a tool to convert csv / excel to enex file? I could probably figure out the coding for an enex file It would be an improvement over the text as an attachment file that v10 imports
  15. If I need such features, I use a spreadsheet file (Apple Numbers) Evernote supports storing the file as a note attachment
  16. I'm not a fan of the stack/notebook approach I use tags Also, the Next Action thing seems over-rated It's just one of the factors when promoting tasks from pending to active Another factor is due-date; my task list is sorted by due-date (Eisenhower Matrix)
  17. Use two digits for the month numbers; 01. January, 02. February, 03. March, ..., 12. December
  18. My vote would be for notebook hierarchy, similar to the tag hierarchy As a work around Stack: NotebookA Notebooks: NotebookA.01 NotebookA.02 NotebookA.03
  19. Instead of a note editor, you might want to use a word-processing editor I use Apple Pages on my Mac and iPad The document can be stored in Evernote as a note file-attachment
  20. That's not correct Evernote uses a database structure, with unique notebook/tag id's specified in the note record Notebook/tag name is specified in the notebook/tag record A tag-tag table supports tag hierarchy (parent/child); there's no notebook-notebook table This can be observed using an sql browser in the Evernote Legacy product Unique names is a UI thing Without unique names, we would no longer be able to directly reference notebook/tag x we would always have to reference the notebook/tag tree
  21. Confirmed; notebook/tag names must be unique I use independent tags or reflect hierarchy in the notebook/tag name; for example; Migration-Germany-Tax I use an independent "ToDo" tag workflow
  22. No official announcement, but this is the reality I work in Switching that around, imagine the announcement is they were going to implement nested notebooks My workflow would not change; I've progressed to tag methodology
  23. Here's a notebook and tag example for organizing Receipts Stacks/Notebook Tags Receipts Receipts Receipts-Car Receipts-Car Receipts-Groceries Receipts-Groceries Receipts-House Receipts-House
