  1. Just to round out the discussion, some apps can parse note content - see the Filterize blog for more. Although it talks about covering "various date types*" there's the problem mentioned by @CalS of all the other numbers in the note. It's possible that something more could be made of it, but it sounds as though your 'scan in bulk and search' approach is working fine. I've found that using order numbers, customer numbers and post (zip) codes allows me to sort through a large number of documents pretty quickly too... *
  2. Hmmn. Start here... https://evernote.com/blog/2020-update-progress-road-ahead/
  3. Hi. Mobile devices typically don't store files locally - they're interfaces to more detailed information stored in the cloud. So an 'email' in Android is actually a link to the information stored online. I don't believe there's any way to link an email to a note - or vice-versa. The internet (and email) just won't allow it. I have Gmail addresses that I mostly manage in MS Outlook on desktop, and I save some .MSG files into Evernote notes - Outlook copies of emails received - which will re-open in Outllook if I open them from the note. I delete the emails from Outlook (therefore from Gmail via IMAP) after copying them to a note - there's no point (IMHO) in retaining two copies of the same information.
  4. Hi. If you have reinstalled the app by now, your unsynced notes are probably lost - they are/ were in 'temporary' storage on the device pending a sync. If you haven't done that yet, I'd advise you not to worry - sync is dependant on local signal strength and the current internet traffic in your area and on Evernote's servers. It can be unavailable for a few hours. Adding a new note on the phone, and opening Evernote on a desktop computer to add a new note to the main server are ways to 'encourage' it to work. If you do want to save your unsynced notes in future, you could try emailing them - either within the app, or by copying and pasting the content into an email - that's a subscriber-only option, so its worth being Premium if only for that feature!
  5. Hi. You are now in the correct Forum. Can you explain your issue in more detail? Where are you downloading from; where were you trying to save the file; how did you try to start a download and what exactly happened?
  6. Evernote provides bank-level security to keep your private notes private, and part of that is the 30-day timeout. If you can use the installed desktop version, there is no logout because the security is provided by the operating system of whatever device you're using. The web client can be accessed from any device at any time, hence the added level of security. Sorry but it's not something users can change.
  7. ...I've seen this recommended by Evernote Support from time to time - don't know if Admin access conveys any more status than an account with Admin rights, but I suggested it as a 'nuclear' option - putting all the influence you can towards a positive outcome.
  8. Weird. Just checked out my Gmail account with a couple of things it already knows are spam - didn't see anything like this. I get the right hand panel with 'get started...' - which actually means you haven't chosen a particular message yet, so I don't see what's triggering it... Have you tried the forwarding an email option?
  9. Hi. I haven't seen that message before - doesn't sound like an Evernote comment; can you post a screenshot of this next time it comes up? Meantime you could just forward these messages to Evernote using your account email address - though just in case this is an Evernote issue and it is going to block them that way too, you might want to make sure you keep your messages somewhere safe. You could just label them 'forwarded to EN' and archive them for the moment...
  10. Hi. This post is by someone who used to develop Evernote Windows (sadly, he left...) but there have been various reports over the years of this bootstrapper error, and the usual fix is to reinstall the version of Evernote that you were originally using and update from there. (It's not usually necessary to uninstall the old version of Evernote before updating, though I know that some other apps expect it.) Do you remember when Evernote was installed on your computer, or when it was last updated? We can maybe make a guess what version you might have been using, and try to reinstall that...
  11. Hi. Rather than spend a lot of time trying to work out where the glitch in the existing system lies, I'd suggest just syncing (if you need to) then sign out and uninstall Evernote from your gremlinned device; restart it and then re-download and reinstall*. Log in with your existing user ID and wait 'till the database syncs / downloads from the server. * Edit - as Administrator
  12. Hi - just make sure that you're logged into the app on the new phone with exactly the same ID that you used previously. Worst case - log out entirely and uninstall the app / restart the phone / re-download and reinstall from scratch!
  13. See All Notes > Settings > Notifications > Collect Notifications. Untick that box for a quiet life. If it's already unticked, that feature isn't what's causing your issue!
  14. You're right, and I apologise - I got the impression from somewhere that Evernote could behave like some other applications (and Scannable on iOS) and would 'scan' a complete document to PDF as a coherent file. I just ran a couple of quick tests taking manual pictures and in all cases - if you have your camera format set to images - you'll get them saved in last / previous / first order. Set your camera to PDF documents in Settings first however, and you get pages in order... All Notes > Settings > Camera > Document File Format - choose PDF (or Images & PDF) but remember this is a 'sticky' setting. If (like me) you want just images from your camera - it's quicker, and I mostly use a scanner for documents over 1 page - you need to switch back after scanning a document. There's also an 'automatic' setting for scanning (the square-ish icon at top right of the camera picture) which puts the camera into a more Scannable mode but I couldn't run a test on that - it's a bit too dark around here to get good pictures!
  15. It's not, other than the workarounds listed above..
  16. There are two ways to use the built in camera - open Evernote and add a new camera note, or take one or more pictures and add the images from the Gallery on your phone. Using Evernote should keep the images in the order they were taken; using the Gallery you have no control over the order they upload in, though it should be possible to re-order by drag and drop them later.
  17. Hi. You added your post to a 6-year old thread. I moved it to a separate post in the correct forum. Please provide a screenshot of a dummy checklist up to the point when a keypress would delete the existing entries if you'd like some assistance...
  18. Hi. You should get an automatic notice that someone has replied to your comment here. As to the search problem, it is a fact that Evernote search will find the first character(s) in a word, but has no way to find the middle to last characters. How to use Evernote's advanced search syntax
  19. Hi. When you say 'scan', how are you generating the images? In Evernote's camera feature? Your device camera? A third party app? And are these JPG or PNG images, or PDF pages?
  20. Thanks for your comments - that's a positive and constructive review. If Evernote is working for you - even though it's not perfect - I don't think you missed anything important. I'm a long way past my student days, but the only comment I'd add is that clipped extracts could be added to a note, though you'd need desktop access to complete them. You'd need to add your note/ research clips as separate notes, and tag them uniquely for that project. When you need to add an index to your main note, search for that tag so you have a list of all the individual notes. Select all notes, then use "create table of contents" to generate a list of the notes which includes links to each note. Find the ToC and copy/ paste it into your main text, and you're done!
  21. I wonder if Evernote has to check back with each link to verify it, or obtain an image or icon or something... I agree it looks like there are too many external connections to this email for Evernote's liking - you may find that even though the note has copied, one or two of the links are not complete. It used to be possible (haven't done it for a while) to highlight part of an email and use the Outlook Clipper to collect just one section - the workaround you were looking for might be just to highlight half of the email and clip, then the other half... you'd have two notes for the one email, but with 500 links or less in each... maybe. 🙂
  22. Slightly, I think - I was using the calendar example to illustrate how much simpler it is to use an app than to configure Evernote! Have to say I have never tried anything this detailed, but the saving grace (I think) is that Filterize will update (I also think - haven't tried this) multiple notes if there's a filter which says -effectively- 'list all the notes with this <due date> where you see <this code>'. So (if you want to take it that far) your 365 date codes appear on notes for 365 days, 52 weeks, 12 months, and 1 year. I'd use a spreadsheet to generate date and day information, and as a source for copy/ paste into notes, and a 'control' note for Filterize. Filterize has an interesting (and occasionally frustrating) feature called parameterisation you can use for repetitive filters. Your actual filter would be more along the lines of 'if any note has a due date from <this table column>, then apply a tag (and/ or take other actions) from <that row>' I'll leave it as an exercise for the class to work out whether that's actually feasible - seems to me the finest detail you'd need would be by week: one note split into days, each with a Filterize <toc> bookmark. But again I stress - I'm happily using Google Calendar, plus a couple of notes for items due, or past due for today, and what's coming up in the next 10 days. That works for me, and I have no need (or desire) to work out the most effective options for this Filterize kludge!! Good luck if you do. 😄
  23. Hi. I use Outlook clipper a fair amount, but I've never seen that error... it seems to say that the note has too many resources - as in too many attachments for one note, though as far as I know the clipper will generate a new note for each item clipped... I do know there's a daily limit for the number of emails sent to Evernote, though I'm not clear whether that applies to messages sent via the clipper... Is it possible you selected more than 1,000 emails to clip? Nope: still confused (happens a lot) - can you describe in more detail where clipper has been set to deliver your clipped email(s)? I'd suggest raising a support ticket too - we're mainly users here, so no access to any email history for your account.
