Can't Update To 4.6.4, Error 2732 / Boostrapper.cpp:886 0x643

I've had a problem while updating to version 4.6.3 : it is unable to install correctly, I get the message (in French) "Le programme d'installation a rencontré une erreur inattendue. Cela peut indiquer un problème lié à ce package. Le code d'erreur est : 2732"

I get the same message when trying to unistall, so I'm really blocked...

I work daily on Evernote and it's a HUGE problem for me not to be able to have, does someone have a solution to this ??

Hi, I've the same problem. I'm using Windows 7.

I've contact the support and they tell me that I must rest the password but doesn't make any sense (has nothing to do): i have alredy the password update (2 days ago) successfully. The problem comes yesterday when i had update the officiale version direct from the program (evernote).

I think that the problem is in the latest version (4.6.3.8096).

I tried to uninstalling manually but the error still.

I'm going crazy.

Please fix the latest version.

In any case I can't send you the installer logs > Evernote does not work anymore (can't open the program).

When i trying to open it comes always the same messagge (error 2732).

I'm totally blocked with Evernote

I have a ticket too: #16051-256496.

I finally managed to uninstall Evernote with Perfect Uninstaller (I was unable to do it with normal Windows tools or with C-Cleaner, I kept getting the same message as ale-drums : error 2732). So I thought my problems were over but actually no !!!

Now it appears like Evernote is fully uninstalled (doesn't appear anywhere), but when I try to install it I get a message saying : "Evernote was already installed by another user. Only one installation per user is possible. An administrator may install Evernote for everybody after the installation for the user has been deleted." (translated from French).

A solution to this ?

I've still the same problem while opening, updating or removing the FRENCH version 4.6.3.8096. The popup message appears : "Le programme d'installation a rencontré une erreur inattendue. Cela peut indiquer un problème lié à ce package. Le code d'erreur est : 2732". I get also the same message when trying to unistall, so I'm really blocked on my Windows 7 Pro Pack 1 computer...

Does someone have a solution ?

some data are used for my work, and they havn't sync yet

so I cannot get the data now ...

I have a ticket too: #16051-256496.

I finally managed to uninstall Evernote with Perfect Uninstaller (I was unable to do it with normal Windows tools or with C-Cleaner, I kept getting the same message as ale-drums : error 2732). So I thought my problems were over but actually no !!!

Now it appears like Evernote is fully uninstalled (doesn't appear anywhere), but when I try to install it I get a message saying : "Evernote was already installed by another user. Only one installation per user is possible. An administrator may install Evernote for everybody after the installation for the user has been deleted." (translated from French).

A solution to this ?

open Run dialog

Type the %TEMP%

In the folder, there should be a file - EvernoteSetup.log.

I was with the same problem.

Like there's no solution yet, i discovered that recreating the shortcut for evernote, it works again.

Go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Evernote\Evernote" and execute Evernote.exe directly, or recreate it's shortcut.

Solved!

1) I deleted Evernote installation folder, and every file with Evernote in the name;

2) CCleaner to clean registry;

3) Manual clean on registry searching for Evernote

Until there, I could launch the installer but got an error about just one user installation allowed...

Then, I did what this post recommended: http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/22282-%E2%9C%94-latest-evernote-cant-be-installed-after-old-version-not-uninstalled-properly/page-10#entry125311

It worked fine... Finally I have my beloved notes with me, again... :-)

P.S. The folder where I found the log file was c:\users\alexgv\appdata\local\Temp, where alexgv is my user on Windows 7.

I was able to solve the problem thanks to alexgv99, big cheers man ! I don't know how the hell someone figured out to take the reverse of the GUID and delete associated keys but that made the trick anyway !

Same problem, the installer crashes and does not install. This has happened on both W8 *64 PC's I use.

The installers were auto update, and manual download from your site.

Work around for me was to use Revo uninstaller to remove the leftovers of the programme from failed upgrade/install, after that it installed ok.

I have the exact same problem, was fine until i did the update to the latest evernote yesterday and then after trying it get the following messages.

setup error - When trying to run (.\Bootstrapper.cpp:886) 0x643:Fatal error during installation

When trying to install/Uninstall: The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2732.

Not really sure what to do. Can't uninstall, can't run installer, and can't run the app anymore. I really like Evernote and have turned alot of people to use it but this is a big problem because i can't access my data on pc (i can still get it on my phone).

Using Windows 7/64

I also saw this error, but i was installing EN on a Linux system, under Wine. which I have done before with no problems. I know this is not supported, but I would be curious what the fix is. I thought it was a Linux/Wine problem. Seems to be an EN installer problem??

I'm having the same problem with Win7 64bit. I've even tried removing all signs of Evernote (deleting c:\Program Files (x86)\Evernote folder) then cleaning up the registry, rebooting and then trying a fresh install and still get the same result. I even resorted to contacting Evernote support last week but have heard nothing back!

Seems like an installer issue with respect to the latest windows update?

Bit frustrating because I've come to rely on Evernote for work notes, silly me for relying on free software.

Hey guys! OP here. I did resolve this for myself personally, maybe you guys can try.

I ended up completely uninstalling all of the Evernote installer files in %Temp% to give myself a fresh start. I also used CCleaner to clear out my Temp folder and any lingering registry items. Once that was done, I restarted my computer and before opening ANY program, I tried the installer again and it worked!

Really nothing fancy and you might have all tried that already, but that was what I did and it worked for me.

2) Went into C: Users/username/AppData/local/Evernote/evernote/Autoupdate

3) there I had both versions the older 4.6.1.7860 and the newer 4.6.3 8096

double clicked on the old version first....it ran the install.....once installed....I double clicked on 4.6.3....BINGO! All's good.

Background:

after the change of password I couldn't update. Tried logging out of clearly...relogging...tried relogging in evernote...nothing...bootstrap errors...and it could find the msi file....looked for the msi file....still nothing.

Did the steps above.

Installer Issues: If you experience problems installing 4.6.4 please backup your data and contact Customer Support at https://support.evernote.com/

So I would suggest that you contact support on this one.

Mine failed to update also. It uninstalled the previous version but didn't install the updated version (4.6.4 public). I went to the Evernote website and installed the current public version without any issues.

Seems the issue is the failure to uninstall previous version. Windows add/remove did not unistall it either. I had to download Revo Uninstaller to fully uninstall all registry entries, left over files, etc.

Yes, this seems to happen on some subset of Windows 64bit users. I suggest users go contact customer support. If you feel comfortable doing it on your own, here's what seems to work for the instances I have encountered.

1. Backup your files and data.

2. Download something like REVO

3. Have local notes? Make another backup!

4. No really, make backup

5. Do a full uninstall with REVO or another tool of your choice

6. Go download 4.6.4 from evernote.com

If you have any questions that the fine folks on this forum can't answer, customer should be able to help.

I wish I would have made a backup. I attacked this early, early this morning. I didn't know REVO would remove all my files in a way that they can't be restored.

I've lost 1/3 of my life due to this install issue.

Just seen that Evernote v4.6.4 has been released. I tried updating and I am getting a 2732 installer error.

Never has problems in the past. I am running Windows 8 x64. This is to install the Windows version of Evernote.

I too had the same issues with upgrading. However, I was able to work around them.

These instructions are for Windows 8 Pro x64 so your mileage may vary: BACKUP EVERYTHING WITH REGARD TO EVERNOTE AND DON'T BLAME ME IF YOUR MACHINE DIES.

Delete C:\Program Files (x86)\Evernote
Run latest version of ccCleaner and use the built-in registry cleaner. Save a backup of the registry before finalizing the cleaning.
Run Revo Uninstaller on Evernote. It will probably bomb out on you with the same error as when you tried to upgrade, however what we're after is running the built-in Advanced Scanning mode. Delete everything it finds leftover in the registry AND folders/files for Evernote.
Install latest version of Evernote.

I followed the instructions highlighted in red and it worked! And yes, I know this post was in response to this error (“evernote was already installed by another user.”) but it worked anyway!!

Evernote installed without a problem

Of course, all of the usual regedit warnings a cautions apply here! Work at your own risk!! Other user's results may vary!!

The installation process failed with the same error “evernote was already installed by another user.”
Manually remove registry entries.

  E190C2EAF5FC03E468956D042EA3B899″ for example.

This is partially a repost, but:

This seems to happen on some subset of Windows 64bit users. I suggest users go contact customer support. If you feel comfortable doing it on your own, here's what seems to work for the instances I have
encountered.

1. Backup your files and data.

2. Download something like REVO

3. Have local notes? Make another backup!

4. No really, make backup

5. Do a full uninstall with REVO or another tool of your choice

6. Go download 4.6.4 from evernote.com

If you're able to go to %TEMP%\EvernoteSetupMSI.log and paste the contents in a PM to me, that would be much appreciated. Also, if you could send over what version of Microsoft Office you have, that is useful.

If you aren't running Windows 64bit and see this error, pleas also PM me.

Have just seen dlu's post after having this error and already doing what he suggested. I've used Revo for ages and it worked for me but no doubt there are others that would work equally well. Did a complete uninstall then downloaded 4.6.4 and it installed fine. I did have to clear IE's cache before I could sign in to the fresh install, but all seems to be working fine now.

I used IObit's Uninstaller. During the uninstall it generated the same 2732 error! It then went to the registry and I deleted all the entries is displayed. I then installed the desktop version I just downloaded on my Windows 8 64-bit machine. It installed just fine and actually retained my account. When it finished its sync all was OK.

Yeah for some context, there's a bug on the 4.6.3 version of Evernote that causes issues when upgrading and leaves you in this half upgraded state. It seems to only affect a subset of Windows 64bit users. We think it is 64bit plus some combinations of MS Office. So if you see this and you're not on 64 bit, please let us know so we can look into it.

A simple uninstall from the control panel can leave a lot of stray registry entries, etc, behind. That's why I used Revo, because it scans for leftovers and everything can be deleted. Something like CCleaner, run after an uninstall from the control panel, might work too, but I'm just guessing. (CCleaner is free.)

Like DVM, I got the same error when uninstalling, but the uninstaller still found the registry entries and I deleted everything it displayed.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit.

I had this error today....... got a pop up to upgrade to 4.6.4 from 4.6.3 and got error 2732 on my windows 8 64bit

read some few solutions and tried REVO uninstall...... could not uninstall with REVO because it still had the error 2732 and corrupted

Solution

Use normal windows 8 control panel uninstall method to uninstall corrupted 4.6.3.

Download 4.6.4 from evernote and installed again.

everything now works

Here's the solution I'm about to implement:

Uninstall using the tool of your choice (REVO, Control Panel, whatever works).

Switch to Springpad or Google Keep.

Probably Springpad, since I use that a lot more than Evernote anyway.

I am running Windows 8 x64 Enterprise and Office Profession Plus 2013 x64. I have unistalled Evernote using Revo but can't install 4.6.4, I am going to try a fw of the other suggestions (Deleted program Folder, run windows installer cleanup) but thought i would send you my logs first, It's quite big so i've uploaded it to my Dropbox - PM sent

This has made it worse, i know get the following error - Evernote was already installed by another user. Only ne per-user installation is supported

After clawing through the registry and deleting all the entries found in the setup log i have now finally manage to re-install Evernote.

Hi, I've just had the same problem updating from 4.6.3 to 4.6.4. Windows 7 x64 SP1.

Solution for me was to completely uninstall 4.6.3 from Control Panel -> Program's and Features then download and and install 4.6.4 from the web site.

Even after uninstalling it with REVO I still cannot install the new version. It tells me the previous installation of 4.6.4 cannot be uninstalled...

and files/folders it finds. Thereafter, use the 4.6.4 installer that
you've downloaded from the main website to do a fresh installation.

That's how I updated to 4.6.4 in spite of the 2732 error.

We're here. Yes I've read your post. I'm not sure where North Korea came in, but it seems immature and completely unnecessary.

From what I can gather via the very helpful log files people have sent in, working with Customer Support, discussions with our team and other such activities, it seems that there is a bug with version 4.6.3 that affects some Windows 64bit users that also have Microsoft Office 64bit installed. We haven't been able to narrow down which versions of Windows 64bit and which versions of Microsoft Office 64bit are required in which combination for this bug to occur. There are just a ton of versions of Windows, even within Windows 7 there are multiple variations. The same issue with the Office suite. Trying to find the right combinations of the two is, what I would describe as frustrating.

Anyways, back onto the issue. After you've installed 4.6.3 the 4.6.3 installer is cached by the Windows operating system. So when you try to upgrade to 4.6.4 the operating system grabs the 4.6.3 uninstaller that is cached and uses that to do the uninstall process. We don't have a way of forcing Windows to use the fixed 4.6.4 installer to do the uninstallation, so there doesn't seem to be anything we can do from within our application. Hence the 3rd party uninstaller (which I recommend), or the need to manually remove registry entries or files (which makes me personally nervous, but only because I've personally done stupid things before).

Anyways, I'd like to emphasize my apologies for this whole affair and that it only affects a subset of Windows 64bit users.
