  1. I also seem to be able to change search phrases and then save as a new search. Obviously search phrases that have been converted to blue lozenges can't be edited directly but they can just be removed in the normal way. So I converted this: to And I now have the option to save the search
  2. You can delete a saved search but you have to run it first, and then use the three dots menu. I don't think it is terribly logical but you can do it. You can also rename it using the inappropriately names "Edit saved search"
  3. Glad you have got a solution. Unfortunately, while markdown style links - [title](https://www.example.com) - work in EN for URLs, they don't work for EN links. That would have made the job even easier.
  4. I read the original request as wanting to link directly to a task but you are reading it as being able to link from a task to a note. I wonder which of us is right. Perhaps @JaFucould clarify.
  5. I generally don't need to sort by tags but, as far as I know, it is still the best way of identifying notes that contain no subtags of a particular tag. I don't believe the search syntax can cope with "contains tag X but no other tags".
  6. pdf files work the same as any other attachment. If you open the file in an external editor, make changes and then save the file, you are changing the actual attachment. Open the attachment again and the changes are still there. So you are not limited to using EN's own annotation tool. If you double click the pdf it will open in whatever app pdfs normally open in on your system. I just added a note to a pdf using Adobe Acrobat Reader. For some reason you need to overwrite the file rather thn just save it, but if you persist it works fine. The key is to experiment and see how it goes. Make sure the changes are still there a few days later, for example, and build up confidence that it works as you expect.
  7. Don't forget the amazing keyboard shortcuts. You might find there is a way of doing it using the keyboard and once you have got the muscle memory it is so much faster. There is a complete, searchable list in the app, which you can access through: ctrl+/ (Windows) Help -> Keyboard shortcuts the keyboard icon at the bottom of the sidebar.
  8. I'm not entirely sure how you envisage this working. I'm going to assume you are on one of the desktop versions (Windows or Mac). I assume you don't want to give all the notes the same name, so are you thinking that there should be a way of quickly cycling through the title filelds of the selected notes, making changes as you go? Although that functionaility doesn't exist at the moment, there are some shortcuts that make life easier. Let's imagine you have your list of notes where you want to modify the titles and that the top note is currently selected (either blue or gray selection box, it doesn't matter in this case). Shortcuts are for Windows, so will be a bit different on Mac Press F2. The title field of the first note is highlighted and you can rename it by just typing in the new name or you can edit it Alt+Ctrl+\ switches the focus back to the note list Down arrow to progress to the next note Then repeat. If you have a long list of notes with some random ones needing attention then I would select the ones you need to work on and then add a tag (e.g. "rename"). You can then filter by that tag to get you a list of notes which need work. I know this isn't exactly what (I think) you want but isn't a bad workaround.
  9. But people do ask for other sorts which have been removed in V10 e.g. tags For me it seems logical that if you can put a field in the top list or side list view you should be able to sort by it, simply by clicking the field name, just like you can for title, updated, created etc. However in most cases the advanced search syntax will give you what you want. For "author" these are the examples given: author:"robert parker" author:robert* -author:* The quotation marks are needed for names whith spaces, the wild card allows you to find names that start with a particular string and the - allows you to search for notes not authored by somebody (or in this case with no author). It is worth noting that this picks up the author as defined in the note information. This appears to not always be the same as the "Created by" or "Updated by" fields in the top or side view list. Several of my recent notes had no author but I am listed under "Created by"! The full, if slightly out of date, search syntax is here: https://dev.evernote.com/doc/articles/search_grammar.php with some useful updates https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/208313828 (for completeness, they are not relevant here)
  10. This old thread relates to the legacy version in which no changes are ever going to happen.
  11. The tasks view encourages you to think of tasks as existing in their own right. They don't. They only exisit within notes. The tasks view pulls out all the tasks from the various notes in which they live. If you don't actrively choose the note the task is placed in the default task note. This explains why you can't link directly to a task because you can't link directly to any other element of a note. However there is no reason why you can't have one task in a note and link to that note.
  12. Building on @eric99's idea you could copy the app link for the central note highlight the relevant text in the note Press Ctrl+K Paste in the link For external weblinks you can highlight text and paste the weblink directly and it automatically adds the link to the text. EN, for whatever reason, haven't introduced that for internal links so there is the extra Ctrl+K step. You could put the central note link at the top of the note for reference but, unless I'm missing something, it's actually a remarkably large number of steps to extract the app link from a link in a note - just copying it copies the text so you need to edit it, go to the link field and copy.
  13. The keyboard shortcut for "Notes" is Alt+Ctrl+2. No scrolling involved. It will work if you are on the homescreen or anywhere else within EN. The home screen adds no value for me so I have chosen the "Resume where I left off" option in settings and then use the shortcut to get to "Notes" if required.
  14. It's perhaps worth mentioning that import folders should be seen in the context of all the different methods of getting an attachment into EN, when you are not working within EN on a particular note. @JDCis doesn't mention which version of EN he is using, but on Windows desktop the methods I find most useful are: Import folders Right click the file and choose Send to -> Evernote Dragging the file directly into the note list - a new note is then created containing the file as an attachment The pdf capture option within the EN webclipper
  15. Evernote has never had the ability to produce an internal table of contents or any other sort of linking within a note. As I described in my post above EN really works best with short notes, linked together, if required, by EN links, which can be collected into one ToC note. If your note becomes too long, then the options are to break it into smaller notes or use the ctrl+F hack to navigate through the note. The introduction of well defined headers in V10, which contain h1, h2 etc tags in the underlying html, does mean that it is probably easier to implement, if they wanted to, than in the legacy version.
  16. I think it would be sensible to be able to change the updated date but in your case why don't you just sort by created date?
  17. I totally agree that it is annoying and unhelpful. However, as @Boot17explains above, you can change it from Preview to Title so you only need to see it once per note. Still annoying I know but it does limit the pain. It should simply default to title and then display the advert if we try to change it to "Preview" - that seems reasonable to me, rather then having to change each attachment to Title when I add it.
  18. Only if you edited the note. There is also a list of the 5 most recently edited notes in the sidebar (if you have it activated). I think @Glen F. wants a list of notes he has just looked at, without necessarily having changed them. Given that the back button often doesn't give me the results I expect (back to the preview note list but not the note I was looking at?) I suspect that this might not be easy to implement, but I can definitely see the value.
  19. Although I do still get occassional issues with images it's generqally getting better and I'm not currently getting the symptoms you describe. Reinstalling the software is not going to solve any corruption of the database, whch is the most likely problem.. I would clear your database by signing out and choosing "Remove my Evernote data from this device". You could also try and see if you have the same issue on the web version - success here would definitely indicate a local database problem. Obviously also check you have the most upto date version (10.52.8) as they do seem to have been working away in the background on some of the annoying image handling issues. (10.52.8 is apparently "Miscelaneous bug fixes", but a number of users, me included, think they actually added rocket propulsion under the hood!)
  20. I could see that this might be useful but I can also see tother people's point that it could potentially be dangerous and may well lead to accidentally renaming tags. Personally I'm much more likely to want to move the tag in the hierarchy and this couldn't be done easily from the tags area in the note. It seems to me that the problem is that there is no easy link from the tag in the note to the tag in the tag Window. A "See tag in hierarchy" option that opened the tag window with the tag highlighted would be really useful. It could then easily be renamed, moved etc. The fastest process I can find at the moment is: Click tag to select it. Ctrl+C to copy Alt+Ctrl+5 to open the tags window (insertion point is automatically placed in the search box) Ctrl+V to find the tag You can then edit it with the three dots menu as normal.
  21. I suppose it is always going back to basics. Does the same happen on the web version? If it is OK there it could be as simple as needing a database refresh on the desktiop version. I recognise all the symptoms you describe as things that have happened ocassionally but for me many of the issues seem to have been resolved and certainly are only intermitent. To refresh the database sign out of your account and choose "Remove my Evernote data from this device". Then sign in again.
  22. I've tried to reproduce the problem, but so far with no luck. For me the problem is definitely intermitent so I'm not that surprised. Also note that although I am also using 10.52.8 it's Windows so it may be that this is an area where there are differences between operating systems. Pedrhaps somebody with similar hardware will try, now that you have provided a very detailed description of what you are doing.
  23. As @wonmisays Linux is definitely the way to go. Hopefully the official Linux version will be launched soon. The preview version works really well on Linux but I've no idea how well Linux software runs on Chromebooks. You could I suppose request access to the preview program - perhaps the developers would welcome feedback from people using it on Chromebook. https://evernote.com/earlyaccess
  24. This issue does pop up on the forums for both Windows and Mac desktop versions. From memory it is generally an intermitent problem. Certainly in my case it is very intermitent and I have been unable to identify which particular images or actions cause a probelm. Sadly your post lacks so much detail that I am unable to try to see if I always get the issue in your situation. If you really do want feedback from other users then providing more information would help e.g Exact version of EN (current is 10.52.8) Type of image (e.g jpg or png) Size of image (are small images ok but bigger ones a problem?) Where are you cutting from Are you attempting to copy both text and images together etc etc An example of a recent discussion on a related topic is:
  25. I can confirm that you can still do that. For the record, I have a Samsung phone, but I would count myself as a fairly light/undemanding user on my phone as I do 99% of note creation, complex searches etc on my desktop version.
