I think we may have fallen foul of Evernote's bizarre decision to sometimes refer to "notebook" as "location" while still managing to refer to location as an actual geographical place!

Export size discrepancies between Legacy and V10 [Solved]
Mike P replied to sdfgher's topic in Evernote General Discussions
There are some differences between the enex files created by V10 and legacy. The biggest, that I'm aware of, is that if a note contains an image which has been through the EN OCR process the generated data is in the legacy enex but not in the V10 enex. This leads to a significant difference in file size. -
Preview of word documents in legacy was only ever available on Mac. Now all of us have the option, but we need to pay for it (ie professional not personal subscription). Right or wrong, that's EN's decision. I'm having no problems with searching for words within word documents. The normal advice for search problems includes Try the search on the web version as that is the definitive version of your data on the server Try refreshing your local database (file -> sign out XXX -> remove Evernote data from this device. Then sign back in)

Check you have the most up to date version. Image handling has been steadily, but slowly, improving over time. The current web version is 10.54.4 (access via "Need a little help" at the bottom left of the screen). Otherwise, I hope you find a solution that meets your needs.

copying text and image changes image into link
Mike P replied to McVitas's topic in Evernote General Discussions
I agree that this behaviour is extremely annoying especially as for me the image flashes up momentarily before being replaced by the file that cannot be rendered attachment. A much easier work around is to copy either text or an image but not both. I can copy the text first and then copy the image and it works fine. Still a pain, but easier, in my opinion, than having to download the image. -
I agree that a simpleway of opening the current note in a new window would be good - or even just a way of opening the three dots (more actions) menu from which you could just hit enter as open in new window is at the top of the list. The best workaround at the moment is actually not too bad. You will need to convert to mac but on Windows: alt+ctrl+\ to change the focus from the note to the same note in the note list ctrl+enter to open the note in the new window. It's by no means a complete solution. Obviously it won't work if you have the view which desn't have a note list. Strangely it doesn't work if the note is not in view in the note list - you would have to scroll doesn to find it first which is probably not practical. UPDATE: It seems that, for me at least, the alt+ctrl+\ keyboard shortcut doesn't work if the note is not in view in the note list. If that was fixed then that makes the workaround a little more useful. I don't know how many practical situations there are where the note is not in view - when you click on an internal link now you not only get the note but the note list is moved and the note highlighted. I believe this is relatively new behaviour. In that situation the focus is already on the note list so ctrl+enter opens the note in a new window. Provided you can see it in the note list and it is highligted with a blue border, ctrl+enter will open it in a new window.

Can Evernote send due date reminders to email?
Mike P replied to casedietz's topic in Evernote General Discussions
As @agsteelesays reminders for tasks are only sent in app. However reminders for notes can be sent as a daily email digest. I'm not sure if that is helpful or not but it could possibly give you some options. To set up email reminders for notes yo need to go to your account settings on the web (not in the app) -
It's hard to be definitive about which image EN will choose to be the image in the snippet view. The rules seem to change. In my experience, at the moment EN will chose the biggest (as measured by actual file size) to be the snippet icon. So, if I create a note with an image, it will obviously use that image. If I add a bigger image, it will update to that bigger image. If, on the other hand, I add a smaller image, there is no change. A complication with all of this is that there is a significant time lag between making the change and the snippet image updating.
-
And, just for good measure, here is me copying an image from one note to another on Chrome using ctrl+X followed by ctrl+V. Note that the icon in the snippet view does update but takes a minute or so to do so.

Tasks in Templates are not stored
Mike P replied to Dietmar Calmbach's question in General Technical Issues
Well spotted. I'm sure you are aware that, until the problem is fixed, you can always save the template note and duplicate or copy it. -
Keyboard shortcut for "Add a reminder"

Sorry, that's a windows vs Mac thing, I just assumed it would be the same. -
Keyboard shortcut for "Add a reminder"
Mike P replied to Walder's question in Evernote for Mac Requests (Versions 10.0 and above)
I agree a keyboard shortcut would be good. The quickest keyboard only solution at the moment is F3 to go to the tags area and then shift-Tab twice to highlight the reminder icon and enter to open it. -
There is a way of doing this without using the mouse but it is not straightforward. From the original screen use tab to go to the month and then hit enter Select the month using the arrow keys and then hit enter. You then get this screen From here you can use tab, arrow keys and enter to make your selection. It would be nice if there was a quicker way of getting to this screen but I haven't found it yet. Even better would be the ability to just type in the date and for EN to parse it.

For me the problem is either intermittent or now solved! Yesterday I could not create links; today I can! I've not knowingly done anything to the desktop client so it may be a server function - and we know EN's server has good days and bad days!

sharing notebooks with non-paying users
Mike P replied to guycruls's topic in Evernote General Discussions
I have now generated a shareable link from the web version. Updating the original note does lead to a change in the shared note as accessed through the shared link, although it does take a few minutes for the page to update. Perhaps this is a new feature. I wonder if @Kimberly Purcell could comment as to why she believes it is a static capture of the note at the time the shared link is generated. -

Somethings not right. I'm getting a "failed to generate shareable link" message in red. There has been some chatter with regards to links not working. See for example: -

Yes When you share a notebook you have three choices of the level of control you want to give the user. -
Why don't you use the shortcut key (ctrl+shift+H on windows, but it will be similar on Mac)? So you can select text and highligt it, all from the keyboard. Surprisingly it will always use the default yellow colour, so unfortunately you will still need to go to the toolbar if you want a different colour. There are also keyboard shortcuts for most of the other formatting options. (Help -> Keyboard shortcuts foir the complete list)
