New coming: Table of contents on Evernote
Dave-in-Decatur replied to Cristiano478's topic in Evernote General Discussions
@Cristiano478, are all those nested headings actually links to other notes? That's what I'd think of as a TOC; I wouldn't need it to be collapsible headings. But good! If they are note links, then I note with despair that they are blue, not green. Would you be willing to reply to @Federico Simionato on X that a number of users have noticed this and are wondering WT Actual F (not to put words into anyone's mouth)? -
Yes, I wish there was a little more automatic converting. (But are you saying that you can type or paste something like evernote:///view/{codes of numbers and letters} and not get it transformed into a note link??) But since this thread started with a question about how to get it to convert less, my guess is that there is no level of automatic conversion that won't irritate some number of users, and I've decided to accept it as they're currently doing it (which will probably change at some point, without announcement, and raise another firestorm).

How can I get rid of this /-fuctionality?
Dave-in-Decatur replied to Farbauti's topic in Evernote General Discussions
So did I. But of course a great many of the features that were initially missing were added back in. -

Unless they are not experiencing these problems constantly, and when the problems happen they are able to correct them by waiting for a couple of minutes, as @s2sailor indicates in his post, and as I have experienced. I wish I knew why some people seem to experience this constantly, and others scarcely at all. Obviously it affects one's opinion of Evernote! I don't think it is the most common experience (bearing in mind that software forums obviously collect problem reports, not "working fine" reports), but it happens enough that Evernote really does need to at least offer an official explanation of it. -
Is it just yesterday's work that's gone, or all of your notes entirely? If it's the latter, it's possible (many people have done it) that you accidentally logged into Evernote with the wrong username/email address, and Evernote assumed you were trying to create a new, empty account. Try again, making extra sure of the credentials.

Don't know about iOS, but Evernote for Android (at least for phones, may be different on larger devices) does not run in a browser. There are 2 Evernote link formats: https://www.evernote.com/shard/... (Web link, for browsers) and evernote:///view/... (for the Evernote app). For me both of those open only in the Evernote app on my Android phone. OTOH, an ordinary Web URL (non-Evernote) in an Evernote note always opens in my default browser. So I'm having trouble understanding how things are working for you.

"New client." Says it 4 times. As for notification of dropped features, see the immediately preceding couple of posts. Frankly, if I had been in charge of Evernote's notification of what wasn't going to work in 2020, I would need a psychiatrist, since so many people seemed to think I was making it up, or that I could be ignored.

Ctrl+Z or backspace will delete the link. I find that Evernote doesn't create a link out of a filename (like ReadMe.doc), not even a fully qualified filepath beginning with file:///, only out of a potential URL. Personally, I find it more annoying that Evernote also doesn't automatically make a link when a URL is followed by punctuation instead of a space or Enter.

How to turn off the "/" shortcut
Dave-in-Decatur replied to Doministry's topic in Evernote General Discussions
I agree completely. Ctrl+/ is already in use to access the keyboard shortcut dialog, but Alt+/ should be readily available. This was so easy to get right, and they didn't. BenSpoo seems to want to push people to become familiar with new features, and the method is to have them in your face very frequently. But once they're familiar, they could recede into the background, where we'll still know how to find them. The AI Edit button that pops up on the mere selection of text (or images, which can't even be edited by their AI) is worse, IMHO; and it is aggravated by the occasional popup provoked by nothing at all inviting us to try out AI Edit. -
How can I get rid of this /-fuctionality?
Dave-in-Decatur replied to Farbauti's topic in Evernote General Discussions
If we want to have a discussion about this, it would help to have some specific examples (the 3 or 4 most prominent would do for starters). And of course a lot of v. 10 features didn't exist in v. 6. I'm not talking about AI Edit or / commands. I'm talking about backlinks, dashboard, etc. -
What browser (and version of the browser) are you using? A number of people have been reporting this on Firefox and Safari, while others find it working OK. Have you tried another browser?

Please allow AI to be turned off
Dave-in-Decatur replied to 1dufflebag's topic in Evernote General Discussions
Well, as of today (April 8), the AI Edit button is back to being a demure little circle in the middle of the editing toolbar, not a big rectangle with lots of padding before it at the right end. This is in v. 10.82.2 Windows Desktop and 10.83.5 Web client. Other matters (including annoying popup) remain as they were.
