ANSWERED Pasting Copied Text Is A Different Font And Size

Recommended Posts

When I copy text in the Evernote app on Android and then paste that text in the same note I just copied it from in the same session it is pasted as a different font and size. In the Evernote app on Android it looks correct, but when I go to the desktop app on Windows the text is different. The text is originally Tahoma size 10, but it gets pasted as Helvetica Neue Size 12. Funny thing is if I type in a note in the Evernote app on Android the text is the correct font and size. I have this same issue on both my phone (Samsung Galaxy S4) and my tablet (Sony Xperia Z4). I've tried restarting my devices. I've tried signing out and in to the app. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app on my devices. Nothing has fixed it to date so I'm guessing it's a software bug. If anyone has anything else I can try let me know because I'm really tired of having to fix my text constantly.

Hi.  It's not a bug - exactly - but historically the Android and Windows editors were significantly different applications,  and text styles applied in one may not be available in another.  Both Evernote and the OS make as much effort as they can to show you a consistent layout,  but the style codes applied to edits may not be understood correctly by the other device.

It used to be a major problem that Android devices couldn't edit some parts of Windows notes.  Things are rather better now that both OS's have Evernote's 'common editor' in recent versions of the app,  but any notes made some time ago will definitely cause this sort of problem,  and new notes now may still suffer,  while Evernote are still refining the editor.  When they finish the editing environment on all devices will be the same.  Until then,  it may still be necessary to smooth out this sort of thing on a desktop - which has many more resources and options.

One other option would be to create documents that need to be presentable in Word or some such - that's an established app that uses coding that is already consistent across all platforms.  Attach a Word document to your note,  roughly copy/ paste the content into the note,  and you can edit from the original document wherever you are...

I've long experienced just what @NicCrockett reports. I can usually actually see the difference in font and size within the Android app. It makes no sense to me that material copied and pasted within the same note in the same app should have its font changed (especially since the material had no formatting in the first place). That sounds way more like a bug than a feature to me, albeit a relatively minor one.

@gazumped if you can't use Evernote across OSs then what's the point of the app. Evernote's own website states "Have it everywhere". If they want me to have it everywhere then I would suggest that it be able to edit a simple word on all OSs. If it can't do the simplest of things then how can I count on it to do more complex things like bullet points or radial buttons.

@Matt W. Google Drive sounds nice, but honestly I hate pages. Also, if I'm going to use another product I'm going to use another product and not link to it from Evernote. Why would I pay for Evernote if I'm just going to have to keep my notes in another product. If that's the case I might as well switch to Google Keep.

@Dave-in-Decatur thank you for agreeing with me that it is a bug and pointing out the flaws in the system.

Thank you to all of you for responding. Though I might not agree with you, I do value your opinions.

Yes.  Thank you.  I have the exact same issue in Android app.

The default font is Tahoma 10.   If I move something (cut and paste) it will dramatically increase the font size.   I then need to go to desktop and cut and paste without formatting to reverse it.

This can be for something I just typed too.

Love to see this fixed soon.   Thanks.

This is obviously a bug and honestly one that shouldn't exist given how simple the task is that myself and others are doing. If Evernote is paying attention to this thread I suggest you fix this soon. Since you now require that I pay for the service to use it on multiple devices I expect it to work. Where before I would ignore bugs like this since it was a free service. If the software can't do simple tasks effectively then I will move to one that can if I'm going to have to pay for it. Also, as an IT Admin I will stop suggesting that others use it if I feel the service is unreliable. I hope you fix it, because I honestly don't want to switch services.

One note: at some point this year Evernote Android began using a new, Chrome-based editor. I believe this is intended to be a step toward an overall improved editor. But currently it has a number of shortcomings; I wonder if this is another of them.

Just want to add to the thread that I'm now experiencing this on my Google Pixel XL. That makes three devices from three different manufacturers running three different versions of Android. I'm pretty sure we can classify this as a bug now. In case you are wondering here are the three that I'm talking about:

  1. Samsung Galaxy S4 phone running I think Android 5.1. The phone died a few weeks ago so I can't check the version, but I know it was 5 something.
  2. Sony Xperia Z4 tablet running Android 6.0.1.
  3. Google Pixel XL phone running Android 7.1.

All of these devices were/are running the latest OS that I can get from either the carrier or manufacturer. I updated the Evernote app any time there was an update. So I know it wasn't a not being up-to-date issue.

Ball's in your court Evernote. Do you consider an Evernote user of more than 5 years worth keeping by fixing this issue? I hope the answer is yes because I really don't want to switch.

Just to agree again that this does need fixing. Not something I'd leave Evernote for, but definitely an aggravation, and of course needs and work habits differ.

Just WRT the Galaxy S4, my S4 Note Edge got Android 6 from Verizon late this past July, so if yours died before getting such an update, I'm sure it had Android 5. (Mine updated from 4 to 5 immediately after I bought it in July 2015.) So at any rate, yeah, 3 different Android versions with the same issue suggest it lies with the app. I suspect the Chrome basis for the editor.

Hey @NicCrockett,

If you could please submit a support request to us and we will take a further look into this, as this is definitely not by design after some further testing.

I'm going to do so as well, since I'm having the same problem.

UPDATE: No, I am not submitting a support request, since this is not possible to do.

  1. I was going to do it from the Android app; but from the Settings menu, the Support dialog only offers Send Activity Log--which generates an e-mail with a complex log, but no To: address! Thus it cannot actually be sent anywhere.
  2. I tried to submit the request online through the link in Matt's signature. But, as apparently happens to everyone, I found that there is no link there to actually submit anything. See the screenshot below. Jump in, @gazumped or someone, to explain how I'm not doing something that there is no instruction to do, please.
  3. I am not going to join Twitter just because Evernote can't make a simple support-request form work.

This kind of baloney is why even people who like Evernote, find it very useful, and pay for Premium, like me, come away with a truly terrible impression of its customer relations.

UPDATE 2: I went back to the non-support page, went through the drop-down again, and this time it offered a Submit Ticket button. Apparently in the meantime it had noticed that I was logged in as a Premium user. Still stinks that it doesn't work the first time, and doesn't give any information about what to do if the button is not there.

When it seemed that no support request was possible, I decided to post a screenshot of the problem here. It's really obvious, and I'm going to leave it here for general edification, even though the Evernote system has finally decided that I was worthy to see the Submit Ticket button.

UPDATE: I received a response from one of Evernote's Android tech specialists. They report that this is a known issue they've been working on, and they expect that it should be resolved in the next Evernote Android app update. No exact time frame, of course, but sometime fairly soon. So, good news! :D

Honestly, I've had this issue for a couple of years and @Dave-in-Decatur is the first person I've seen get a response from Evernote. Congrats! I've seen Evernote get updated since Dave posted his last note stating that a fix would be in the next update. Unfortunately, I haven't seen an improvement. Even within the last week I've seen this issue happen in a note. I'm not calling you a liar Dave. I realize you were only conveying the info you were given. However, I don't expect Evernote to ever fix this issue. If they prove me wrong; I'll admit I was wrong, be happy that I have a fix, and will again praise their software as spectacular. Until then, I have no reason to continue paying for premium service.

Quite right, Nic. I just updated to the very latest v. 7.9.8.2, and the problem still happens. Pretty annoying when support promises something and it's not delivered. I way rather have them say, "It's on the list. Sooner or later." At least I know not to hold my breath.

You have to contact Evernote support, and you can only do this if you are a Premium user. If you are, go to https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/requests/newBe sure you're logged in to Evernote; even then, it can be fiddly to get this page to work. Click through the drop-downs, e.g.:

  1. What can we help you with?: Technical Issues
  2. Select a topic: Other
  3. Tell us more.: Report a bug

A "Submit ticket" button should appear (you may need to scroll down); click on that to supply the information.

Thank you, @Matt W.. It was apparently an over-eager or overly optimistic support employee who told me some time back that it would be fixed in the "next" update. Should have taken that with a grain of salt. But it is good to know that it's in the hopper. I don't know what all else is in there with it, but this one is pretty dysfunctional, and very consistent. I'll look forward to your updates, which I do appreciate.

When text is cut or copied and then pasted into the same note, the pasted text is in a larger font than the original.
Selecting 'Simplified Formatting' will return the text to the original size BUT often causes other problems with other formatted text.

Hello,

I've gathered all of the information you provided and reported this to the development team. They will take a look at this issue and try to determine where the app is having difficulty. We have had a few other reports of this from other users and are working on getting this fixed as soon as we can. In the meantime, the only way to correct this issue is to manually resize the text.

I'm going to close this ticket while the development team investigates the issue. We may reach out to you if we need more details.

I don't have an estimate for when this will be fixed but keep updating so you always have the latest fixes when they are released.

Dave, just to save Matt a little time, there is currently no way to do this. It's been requested numerous times; a little searching would take you to one of the two or three threads already present on the Android Product Feedback forum, e.g.:

Your best bet is to go there and add your vote to that request.

As a retired PMP PMP in charge of software & systems development in industry & gov't I can not believe that the Evernote development team does not have a project plan and timetable for the development of changes to the application in upcoming releases.

As a premium user and contributor to the Evernote forum I am requesting the target date for release of this feature request.

I'm sure the development teams have "project plan and timetable", even if they don't publish to the public

I am requesting the target date for release of this feature request.

I don't think you'll get Evernote to supply target dates to the public
For various reasons including the nature of the software environment requiring constant adjustment in priorities

Posting the same request over and over again doesn't change things and clutters up the forums

During the last 8 years the "development team" has never commented on requests in any detail,  and rarely comments at all.  It's about as likely as Disney circulating the plot of Star Wars 9 before the film is released,  and for similar reasons.  Raising another support ticket will just get the same response and give the support team some unnecessary work.  When this is fixed they'll release a new version.

Text resizing is also in the works somewhere...

I believe in new features when I can actually see them working on my devices...  :)

Seems fair. They've gathered all of the information, and created an internal ticket (or more likely piggybacked on  an existing ticket) to investigate / fix: "I've gathered all of the information you provided and reported this to the development team. They will take a look at this issue and try to determine where the app is having difficulty. We have had a few other reports of this from other users and are working on getting this fixed as soon as we can. It's a pretty longstanding thing that they don't disclose internal ticket numbers or release dates. It would be nice, for sure, and some companies do that, but many others don't. See, e.g.this post by Dave Engberg, former CTO of Evernote: https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/6986-archived-linking-to-individual-notes-one-year-later/#comment-38093

Why would you? They have it in the queue already, maybe even on the schedule. Why thrash (in the computer sense) the support staff inbox? You will likely get the same answer, which is "we'll look at it and fix it in a later release".

Believe it. Schedules are often flexible in view of frequent releases, particularly in the world of consumer software. My company does one major and two minor release, plus occasional ad hoc interim, not-fully-tested, use-at-your-own-risk bugfix releases for the product that I work on. Dates are semi-firm for the major/minor releases due to marketing concerns (they can slip a little, but not much), and generally big splash features are scheduled for the next release or two, but features can slip since a lot of what we do is R&D related, and it's hard to predict the research end of things. Because of that, plans are necessarily loose, and the only relevant priorities for me (a developer) are <the-upcoming-release> and <future>. This is not uncommon practice in my world. OTOH, we do make ticket numbers public, and we do try to contact individual users who report issues when they are fixed, but that's just how we choose to roll.

Jefito: Thanks for your detailed response. Can you explain what an EverNote Shepard is?

'Evernote Shepard' is just a label I chose for myself. I think that you can change your own label if you exceed a set number of posts on the forum. It doesn't really mean much except that I do generally try to guide people into understanding how Evernote works.

You'll also see the title 'Guru' under my icon; that's an Evernote chosen designation that just means I have exceeded some number of posts  on the forum. Evernote employees will have the designation 'Employee'. Non-employees with lower numbers of posts are designated as 'Member'; there be other classifications. Being a 'Guru' doesn't give one any special powers here, except the ability to move posts to more appropriate locations in the forums.

Ok, everyone needs to stop and regain focus on what this was about. Considering I'm the one who started this discussion, let me recap.

  1. I didn't ask for a feature to be added. I asked that the Evernote App on Android work properly. Copying selected text and immediately pasting said text as a different font and size isn't a functionally working app. It's honestly a disaster and something Evernote should be ashamed of because this is basic text formatting.
  2. In about 2 months it will have been a year since I started this thread. Even if Evernote is only pushing out updates quarterly, we should have received 3 updates since then. If they haven't fixed it by now, I highly doubt they will. It's because of this and the fact that they limited the free version of the app to two devices that I will be leaving Evernote once my premium subscription expires. If they fix this before then, I'll reconsider. However, this function is something that I use enough that using Evernote has become a hassle more than a tool.
  3. @gazumped posted a quote from another thread talking about editing the default font and size of text. This is completely irrelevant! When you copy text in any app and paste it within the same app it should hold the formatting it started with, not revert to a default. I can't think of any text editing program that doesn't work this way. Now if I was going between apps, I could understand. However, I'm not only in the same app, but I'm in the same note.
  4. In the end, it comes down to one thing. I'm paying for a service and that service isn't innovating. Evernote has become stagnate and they can't handle simple tasks. It's time to move to Microsoft OneNote or Google Keep. Evernote, please prove me wrong. I've been loyal to you since the early years, but if the product doesn't work, then I need something that does.

Apparently a number of us on this thread are in some form of IT and have done some kind of development. Because of this we should all understand the problems that Evernote faces when fixing a bug like this. I'm willing to give them a little more time to redeem themselves, so why don't we all try to remember what it's like to fix something in a program. In my current position my company would give me 24 hours to have this fixed, but not all companies are that insane. Evernote, you're on notice, fix it or I'm gone.

I have just 'discovered' the Feature Request Forum (https://discussion.evernote.com/forum/304-evernote-feature-requests/) and found out there is a similar request Copy format from selected text, paste format onto new selected text.

Now I am scratching my head and asking what is THIS forum and what value is it?  Should I paste all the Evernote responses in this forum to the Request Forum to show the information we have gotten?

+10000000 - Well said NicCrockett! This issue has bugged me for a couple of years. I first noticed it when I started keeping a record of my parents failing health. I would write up some quick notes on my Android phone while at the hospital, and expand on them later at home on the PC. During the hospital visit, I would often copy / paste medical terms from one entry into another. I also used "bold" and "highlight" to emphasize important bits. But when I got home, my notes looked terrible. Now I've got 12pt text screaming out from the default 10pt text.  And to make matters worse, "fixing it" on the PC doesn't always work. I've seen default 10pt text from the PC shrink down to 8pt on the phone. Honestly, it's a mess.

Back in the day when I was programming, we had said this kinda thing was the result of "spaghetti coding". Change one little thing and it sets off a string of unintended events. This fragility makes you wonder about the underlying architecture of Evernote.

Please Evernote, take this seriously, and fix it!

@Dave.Robinson16@Gmail.com I wouldn't waste your time, but if you want to feel free. If you do, I would just put the basics in the post and link to this thread. However, this isn't really a feature request. It's how the software should work, period! Evernote can ignore it all they want, but doing so will only result in the loss of customers. I've already stopped recommending it and I used to be an Evernote Evangelist. However, if you ***** over and ignore your customers as consistently as Evernote has, they will stop promoting your product. It's simple marketing.

@PeteMacca love the +10000000! Sounds like you have a worse issue with this problem then I do. I understand what you mean by "spaghetti coding" and how changing one little thing causes unintended issues elsewhere. However, this isn't an excuse for a multi-year problem. Unfortunately, I wouldn't get your hopes up on a solution at this point. Evernote has been silent on the issue up till now and I don't expect that to change. Maybe they'll surprise us, but I'm not holding my breath.

@NicCrockett, NOT THAT IT SEEMS TO MATTER TO EVRNOTE, but I totally agree with you.  I too am a premium customer and I would like (like, mind you) full functionality using my PC, my tablet, the web, ect...  I have noticed for years that Evernote is geared  toward Apple but until Android took off at least it seemed that the devs were trying to let the poor poor windows folk use most of the features.  Now that Evernote is advertised as fully compatable with most every device it really seems that they are simply ignoring the (us) plebeians.  I have been a premium user for years now and if this is priority service it is time to switch.  I wish that anyone else could do what Evernote promises or even that another bit of code could come close.

Buy the way are you having a problem coping text from a .pdf and having it paste to Evernote in an oddly doubled way?

Thanks for listening to me rant, and for presenting 'our' case so well.  I'm on a fixed income and really can't afford to waste money on services not provided...  I comeing up due to pay my dues again and.....

^Tumbleweeds are rolling through on this issue like an abandoned cantina. Like in Windows 10 with File Explorer snapping back to the top of a list of files every time the wallpaper slideshow changes. Unresolved for 3 years, after several major new builds.

More than likely Evernote looks at this years-long issue, looks at the proportion of paying Android users, and decides we just aren't financially worth supporting. You see this limited thinking all the time in software companies. Meanwhile I steer everyone I know away from using Evernote because of the way they treat their customers. Personally, after nearly ten years I still use the product because of the (intentionally designed) high switching cost, and it mostly does the trick for me. But I certainly would never recommend a new user join the platform and am always looking for an alternative whose value would exceed the high switching cost.

There's a tool companies rely on to gauge their customer happiness and likelihood to promote their product to their peers called Net Promoter Score. I imagine Evernote's NPS is abysmal.

I won't dispute that Evernote has grown since, uhh, 2009.  But "registered users" is kind of a useless metric in the web and app world.  How many of those people signed up and then left?  How many were bots?  (Evernote doesn't seem to attempt to restrict bot activity...they just require an email address and a password to create an account.)  I'd be more interested in Daily Active Users.  I also noticed this graph, while nearly 2 years old, also conveniently cuts off before the 2016 freemium changes/price increases that likely shed some of those users.

In terms of this discussion, how much of that user growth is directly attributable to customer recommendations?  Or even more relevantly, how many of such recommendations are Android users?  It's there that I would expect NPS scores to truly suffer.  Two plus years of major platform-specific deficiencies in basic functionality, paired with ongoing pleas for a fix, doesn't make for a loyal fanbase.

I am getting pretty tired of having to reformat my notes every single day. This was an occasional problem when I used Android Evernote mostly on a phone, to fix an outline or shopping list while on the go -- but it's rather more frustrating now that I'm often editing articles-in-progress on a Pixelbook, on Windows, and on Mac.

And no, I'm not switching to Google Docs until it improves offline capabilities.

Yes, I am a paying user.

For myself, I use Evernote to take notes (and even then the paste-malformatting is an annoyance). For something like an article, I use a dedicated word processor, which Evernote definitely is not intended to be. For something that I wanted to edit on multiple devices, I think I'd pick a format for which I had a reasonably full-featured editor on each device (e.g. MS Word .docx, not that I care much for Word), and attach it to an Evernote note--in which I might continue to gather ideas and information, without much regard to needing good formatting, which could then get pasted into the article in the editor. Just a thought.

I see that Evernote has been ignoring two issues for years: (1) no way in IOS or Android apps to change the font or the font size and (2) copy/paste screws up the font and/or size. If issue 1 was fixed, issue 2 would just be an annoyance. But with neither issue GETTING ANY ATTENTION NOR EVEN A RESPONSE from the developer I have to take 2 stands in return:

(1) I WILL NEVER UPGRADE MY ACCOUNT TO PREMIUM

(2) I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS APP TO ANYONE.

I'm interested in whether anyone is seeing any improvement on this problem in v. 7.17.1. I do not. On my Samsung Note 8, pasted text, even when copied or cut from within the same note, still has an undersized font, even when pasting as plain text, which Android 8 Oreo now allows. But another user seems to report that it is fixed for him:

Is anyone else seeing this? If so, on what devices and what versions of Android?

Dave, I do not also. I'm running v 7.17.1 on Android 6.01. Nothing has changed.

The default text in Evernote on the phone app is Tahoma 10, but when copied and pasted it jumps up to Helvetica Nueu 12 when viewed later on the desktop app. It looks like a dog's breakfast!

On Mar 22, I submitted a REQUEST to fix this bug. It was given Ticket# 2431356 - Cut & Paste Text Formatting. A tech named Matt W. (probably the same Matt W. that responded several time above) responded and I sent him examples. He said that he had been able to reproduce the formatting error, and provided the following response:

Hello Dave,

Thank you for the follow-up on this. After doing some testing in the note, I was able to duplicate this as well. The issue stems from the version of the note editor that is found in Evernote for Android, as it isn't the same as what is on the Evernote application for Windows. We aim to have this corrected in a future version of Evernote for Android, to where the font size and font style are kept when copying and pasting.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

I'm not sure what else can be done to resolve this issue at this point, except continue to follow-up on this ticket.

Does anyone have a later version  than 7.17.1 for Android?

Thanks for your diligence, Dave. I should add that in the current version 7.17.1, the ability to drag and drop text within a note has been restored. Formatting such as underlining and font size is lost; but if the font size is the default, at least it isn't changed as when cutting/copying and pasting. So perhaps progress is indeed being made.

Dave Robinson, thanks for holding Evernote's feet to the fire..., but I'm not holding my breathe waiting for a fix. A similar ticket was submitted back in December 2016, and a similar response was promised by the very same Matt W, from Evernote's tech staff. I hope I'm proved wrong!

This is the response I received from EN on my ticket & my response back.  I do like EN and hope I don't get so frustrated with this bug that it compels me to try something else.

I guess this is about all we can do for now.  If anyone has an idea on how to expedite their resolution to this bug please pass it along on this post.

====================================================

Thank you for your response.  It is just about the same information that I received via Matt.

Please note that this is not a feature request, but a BUG in your android system that affects EVERY USER that does a cut and paste in EN.

The Discussion site for this is https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/100902-pasting-copied-text-is-a-different-font-and-size/?locale=en and you can see it has been going on for several years.  I’m looking forward to this being resolved in 2018 !!

Hi Dave,
Thank you for reaching out to Evernote Support. My name is Olive, and I'll be assisting you.

I understand you're following up to an issue with fonts on the Android platform.

As mentioned by Matt in your previous ticket, Android currently doesn't support different font size options because it is not on the same version of the Evernote editor as other platforms such as iOS or the desktop app.

We are hoping to bring our users some editing improvements in 2018, and I'm happy to submit your request for editing improvements on Android as a feature request. However, there is no way to keep track of when this will be implemented by our developers, and I am not able to give a specific timeline for it at this current time.

The best place to make your voice heard is on our Evernote User Forum. You can join in the discussion and suggest new ideas. Our product team reviews our product areas, joins in discussions, and also posts the latest product updates with release notes.

If you don't already have an account with our Evernote User Forum, you can easily create one by clicking the "Existing user? Sign In" link at the top right of the page. Log in with your Evernote credentials, choose a display name, and join in the discussion.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.
Best,

Many thanks for your persistence, Dave! You speak for so many. I certainly share your sense of frustration. The framing of fixing a crippling bug as a "feature request" borders on the offensive.

In Olive's response, a couple of things stand out to me. First, the Android app "is not on the same version of the Evernote editor as other platforms." This is kind of a "duh"; but it expresses how Evernote views the issue. It also fits in with mentions here and there of a project to bring all editors to, if not identity (which would be impossible on the different platforms, I think), at least a kind of functional parity. So I see this as mildly encouraging: it's one among many things to be rectified in upgrading the editor. (Please don't louse it up like the Windows program, please don't louse it up like the Windows program....)

Second, and even more encouragingly, "We are hoping to bring our users some editing improvements in 2018.... However, there is no way to keep track of when this will be implemented by our developers, and I am not able to give a specific timeline for it at this current time." This last is standard and necessary for all responsible software developers, since no one can know everything that needs to be done and how long it will take to do, especially in the context of an overall upgrade to the editor.

My 2 cents' worth. Thanks again!

The way I see it, there are two issues with the copy & paste problem. One is a bug, one is a feature request.

The bug is when EN text on the phone app (Tahoma 10) is copied and pasted, it jumps up in size to Helvetica Nueu 12 when viewed later on the desktop app. Fix that (first!)..., and I'll be a happy man.

The feature request is when we can control the size of font on the phone. A worthy feature..., but fix the bug first!

Same old, same old! The latest version (8.0) was installed yesterday, and I eagerly tested it to see if the copy/paste bug was squashed. But sadly..., no!

Just want to pop in to say that in one recent update (maybe 8, maybe a late 7.x), the function of dragging selected text to move it was restored. This move does not change the font and size; however, it also does not preserve formatting such as italics. Obviously not a fix for the problem being discussed in this thread. But I mention it as perhaps an indicator that they are slowly moving in the right direction.

Is it just me, or is this finally fixed?!?!

I've got v8.3 and I can copy and paste text, with formatting, and it doesn't turn into a garbled mess!  Amazing!  Finally!  Welcome to the future!

Unfortunately it also automatically creates bullet points, which I hate, and I can't find a way to turn it off!

Thanks for the good news! That's an encouragement for me to go ahead and update (esp. since I don't think I usually do anything that's liable to get reformatted as a bullet point).

Considering I started this thread almost three years ago and have been dealing with the initial bug for longer than that, I've seen zero improvement in that time. At no time have I ever seen any of the issues I've talked about resolved. It's obvious that Evernote doesn't care about their users, including the paying users.

I'm sorry I'm just now responding, but the forum hasn't emailed me that anyone responded to this thread or any others in over a year until today. So, not only does their software not work properly, but neither can they build a simple forum interface. My question now is, where are they hiring programmers from? Obviously, the lowest bidder they can possibly find.

Evernote, get off your hind end and do some actual work that makes your products functional!

Re: the forum. Evernote didn't build it; that would be the folks from the link at the bottom of the page: https://invisioncommunity.com/. Obviously Evernote configures and administers it.  You should probably check your forum notification options, if you haven't already: https://discussion.evernote.com/notifications/options/, and if you find that you're not receiving forum notifications as you should, you should report that so that the forum admin can look into it.

Nic, I've quoted from your original post as well. I also experienced this issue at one time, but I haven't seen it for quite awhile. I just tested again, and copying and pasting text within the same note pastes it in its original font and size (which shows up as Tahoma 10 in the Windows program). I haven't upgraded to v. 8.9 yet (because of the search issue), so I'm wondering which version you're using.
