Welcome to the forums. Can you say a little more about the process you are using? The normal process with the Web Clipper is to clip the article to Evernote and do any highlighting, etc., there. I'm not sure how "reading and highlighting" in the Web Clipper itself would happen.

I haven't tried this, but instead of the nonfunctional shortcut, could you try the Windows search function and just search for evernote.exe? I would be surprised if it has really been moved, but stranger things have happened.

There is a new version of Evernote out, v. 10.55.2. Perhaps checking for the update to that, or downloading it directly from https://www.evernote.com/ and installing it, might resolve the issue.

Is this happening in the Evernote Windows desktop app? If so, have you tried using the Web client (https://www.evernote.com/)? Obviously a serious problem, and it may be necessary to contact support.

Thanks, @AlbertR. It is in fact often of interest to me to know when I first created a note, and nothing in the way I manage notes would make it desirable to change that date. I am a literalist about "creation date"; I don't want to use it as a fungible piece of metadata to be employed for other purposes. Again, just different choices about how to do things. Perhaps part of the difference is that I don't use Evernote much for storing and archiving materials, but rather for creating and accessing ideas about different writing and research projects. And my work is mostly solitary rather than collaborative, which also leads to different requirements.

I will admit that I only glanced at @AlbertR's carefully crafted list, but I have to say that it does nothing to persuade me that v. 10 is more problematic than I currently find it. • Creation date of a note is not visible in note window: I rarely need to consult that information, and would prefer not to have it taking up screen space, when I can see it just by pressing Ctrl+Shift+I, which also displays the most recent updated date, etc.
• Changing creation dates of notes is very complicated: I know that some people do this as a means of sorting or other record-management. I would never, ever want to do it, and I suspect I might even be in the majority in this. I do not ever want to have confusion about when a note was created; and I am confident that if it were easier to change that date, there would be frequent complaints here about accidentally changing it and losing the information forever.

All in all, it seems to me that we have here is a very specific way of using Evernote, far from unique but also far from universal, as well as an acquired set of personal workflow habits. Evernote has for a long time offered so many possibilities to different users that a constellation of shortcomings that seems critical to one will seem less important to another. For instance, the idea that being able to change the creation date of a note is a core feature that renders the program unusable is very puzzling to me. For my purposes, v. 10 mostly works well, and has been getting better. I appreciate the thought and singlemindedness that @AlbertR has employed, but I would have a very different list of missing essentials, most of them on the Android app (e.g., being able to select multiple notes in a list).

So, seriously, none of you beta testers and experts knows what's in this update? Truthfully, if I got that report from an actual auto mechanic, I would refuse to pay the bill!

Yeah, I never know what's behind "miscellaneous bug fixes," but I never suspect that they have addressed the bugs that are bothering me.

I agree that it would be good to have both the jolly metaphor and some actual information, since otherwise, why bother with release notes at all? I don't mind a little levity. It would be nice if they would hire a professional levity-creator to write it, though, since neither coders nor marketers are noted for producing text that (intentionally) makes anybody smile but them. Maybe it was funnier in Italian. Ooh, ooh: here's a job for AI: "Write an amusing update report that also conveys an accurate summary of what was done."

Love the ancient tech support. There's also the oldie about the user who called support after their screen went blank and the machine stopped responding. Usual sorts of questions, then finally "Please look at the power cord to make sure it's plugged in properly." "It's hard to see back there when it's dark like this." "Dark?" "Yes, there's a power outage in our whole building." [What follows does not bear repeating in public.]

All the same, it does seem like it would be cost-effective to have some boilerplate at the beginning of each support response like "Apologies if you have already completed the steps below. Sometimes it is necessary to check on them multiple times to assure success."

I was in contact with support about this in january. As usual, they couldn't/wouldn't help. haven't heard anything from them since, and the problem hasn't been fixed yet.

Seems that:

• when taking a picture note, or adding a picture in a note, the thumbnail doesn't work.
• when adding a picture as an "attachment" in a note, the thumbnail works [almost fine, it just  doesnt's recognize picture orientation]

Are you talking about the thumbnail showing up in the Android app or in the Web or desktop client, or both? In any case, I just did a test, taking a picture of a small document in a new note. The process was smooth and reasonably fast (on a Samsung S22 Ultra with good home WiFi), and immediately after the note synced (in a few seconds) the thumbnail was there, in the Android app, Web client, and even the old legacy Windows program. Not bragging or denying the problem, just say that for whatever reason it works smoothly for me, although this was a tiny sample size.

Glad to hear it's fixed! I seem to remember reading that one of the great things about computers, as they were being developed, was going to be the certainty that, given the same input, a computer running the same program would always produce the same output. 

So, you'll probably block me too, but ... Since others are using the app on similar equipment without problems, it seems that the issue may be isolated to your machine. Have you contacted Evernote support? Since you're on the free plan, you'd have to use Twitter, or else pay for 1 month to access support. (It's not non-existent, in my experience, and fellow users here really can't offer any help to figure out a problem that seems to be specific to your situation.)

I just got the update to Windows app v. 10.55.2, and the release notes report:

Sadly, @RobertJLee, you may well be right about users demanding features that services will feel obliged to include. Even if the users doing the demanding have no real idea what the feature is good for or how they will use it; they just want to be able to say that they have access to it.

So much I want to comment on in your post, @gazumped, but my non-artificial intelligence needs to be otherwise engaged today. I'll just say, WRT what I've quoted above, that that sounds OK--kind of applying steroids to smart filing in Web Clipper (currently nonfunctional!) and note suggestions typed into Ctrl+Q quick switch. BUT -- in order to do that, will the AI service that Evernote licenses need to read all my notes? Presumably so. And then will all my notes become part of its general knowledge-base, to be used whenever a 10th-grader is trying to cheat on his homework? If so, Evernote AI is gonna be a hard no for me.

Hello, and welcome to the forums. If you could include a screenshot of the exact message or messages that you receive, this would be helpful.  "Evernote may be down or have moved" sounds like a very unusual message. Also, in what circumstances are you trying to access Evernote--at home or at work? Could there be a firewall involved? Finally, are you using the Windows desktop app or the Web client in a browser?

I will simply agree with the others who've responded. Evernote should absolutely not prioritize this specialized feature to benefit a limited percentage of users, over other features (whether tasks, formatting, or above all better syncing) that affect the vast majority of users. Evernote's versatility allows it to be used for a great variety of specific purposes, but when a particular segment of users thinks that their usage is the most common or obvious one, then distorted perceptions of needed features can arise. I compare this to users who, over the years, have suggested that Evernote should improve features that would help people who want to write entire books on it. I have books I want to write, but Evernote is not meant to be the tool for that job, nor should it be. "Jack of all trades and master of none"--that is Evernote's proper and glorious "niche."

Welcome to the forums. These are user-to-user forums, so we don't have any special abilities to help, beyond giving advice. To do that, it would be helpful to have more information: what kind of laptop, what version of the Evernote desktop app and of Windows, etc.?

Not a fix for the problem (I wonder if perhaps your local database has become corrupted; search for solutions in the forums), but a workaround would be to start from the other end. Don't copy the note link. Go to the new note instead, and either press Ctrl+Alt+K or click the blue + button and select Note link. That brings up a dialog in which you can type a couple words from the title of the note you want to link to in order to find and select it, which will insert the link in the new note.

Nothing useful to add, only that I thank you for the first example I have seen lately of AI being used for something that is both ethical and legal. And obviously time-saving. As long as the AI doesn't start falling in love with your spray gun.
