Do not listen to Gazumped LMAO.  EVERYONE I know has dealt with the duplicates and syncing nightmare and has since moved on to other apps.  I continue to use the app in the silly hope that a convenient manual sync button will help avoid the weekly (sometimes daily) fumbles of 15 minute syncing (even without VPN) between devices both at work on a fiber optic connection or at home (400 down 30 up) or miracle occurs and this gets addressed.  I am not simultaneously taking notes on a phone or a MacBook, usually the app will just be open on my phone from having entered notes earlier in the day (3-4 hours prior).  The syncing issues has been the #1 issue why I have partially switched to Google Docs and Good Notes and will be the reason why I spend one weekend manually copying all of my notes from the past decade into another application.  Evernote is still useable but I feel like it's right on the edge of being counterproductive to use, unfortunately.

It was good while it lasted!

Of the countless multitude of leaving-in-a-huff-just-thought-I'd-tell-you posts, this is one of the more mysterious. (IMHO, of course.) If you and all your friends are leaving Evernote ... to quote an old song, "How would I know, why should I care?" If you're not leaving ... then what is the point? We're only other users here, we have no power to make Evernote work better or worse for you or for ourselves.

As for "a convenient manual sync button [to] help avoid the ... fumbles of 15 minute syncing (even without VPN) between devices," sync is never between devices, but from a device to Evernote's servers to another device, with all the twists and turns of the Internet in between. There is literally nothing a manual sync button could do to change this. A button is not going to lift the data out of one device and ferry it by drone to the other. At most a button might make the data transmission start a half-second sooner, but it could never make it happen any faster, since it would still have to traverse the exact same networks.

I'm actually pretty confident that you know all this, as an experienced user. Which only leads me back yet again to "what's the point?" (I would LMAO, but I've tried, and it doesn't work.)

  2. Hi, and welcome to the forums. I don't have experience with this myself, but there have been many reports here of shared items persisting in people's accounts long after they and the sharer have parted ways (for whatever reason). This is unfortunately a built-in flaw in the Evernote structure. Someone with more experience will have to give a more accurate answer, but from my limited knowledge I believe there are two possible solutions. (1) If you are still on good enough terms with your ex, you could ask him to manage this on his end--he may have to delete or rename the items or something, and may have to re-share and then un-share them again (this is where my knowledge is too fuzzy to be very useful). (2) If that's too much to go through, you might try creating a new stack with an emotionally suitable name, and moving the notebooks into it--if you can, but it sounds like you may not be able to.

Very likely this will take some negotiating with the ex. Worst case scenario, you can create an entirely new Evernote account, move all of your stuff over to it, and close out the existing one. If I were teaching a law or therapy class on relationships and how to end them, I would include this subject. I'm sure you're not the only one this has happened to.

    Hi,

I am facing the same issue... all my notes have been deleted as the app was updated. Could someone help me? Where do I find the Legacy Version for download?

Hi, and welcome to the forums. There are actually several distinct issues that have been reported in this 2.5-year-old thread, so more details would be helpful in trying to understand what's going on. A few questions: What client of Evernote are you using: Web, Mac desktop, Windows desktop, mobile...? What version did it have before the update and what does it have now? I think this thread began when Evernote was first converting from "legacy" v. 6 and under to the new v. 10. Any updates now are happening within v. 10 (unless you really did just move from v. 6. to v. 10). So again, precise details will be helpful.

But in general, as has been mentioned earlier in the thread, the most common cause of all data disappearing is accidentally logging in with the wrong credentials (different username, email, and/or password). This will result in creating a new, empty account. Unfortunately, this is pretty easy to do; it gets reported in the forums literally almost every day. So, try logging in again, being very careful to use the same credentials you've used with Evernote before, and see if that gets you to the existing notes. Let us know.

  4. If it doesn't persist -- please hear me out on this -- it might be worth your while to subscribe for just one month in order both to contact support to get the best advice about how to operate a free account in your situation, and in order to manage connected "devices," disconnecting all the ones that you don't need. Then return to free. I understand that it seems "extortionary" to you to have to pay. Perhaps another way of looking at it would be that you have had a number of years of free use of a resource-heavy service, and can look forward to as many more free years, by paying for just one month.

Please remove the unnecessary step/page that says 'You are leaving Evernote' when I click on a link in Evernote-web. It's really annoying and I hate extra steps!

Of course I want to Continue, I intentionally clicked the friggin link!

     image.png.6e6502e9926d5ae24e436f890816459b.png

@zachb, I am right with you. This is a link that I myself intentionally put into my own note, and I myself intentionally clicked it; and in the unlikely event that I accidentally clicked it, the worst that can happen is that I have to hit Alt + <; the best is that I learn to click a little more carefully.

Follow @Boot17's links to try to make some useful noise about this. But keep your expectations really low. This little ball of update dropped in late 2016; the thread to which Boot17 linked has been continuously active since then, and has 150 replies and 154 upvotes (by far the highest number in that forum). But here we still are. I was so hoping Evernote 10 would kill it off, but no. One of the very few things about Evernote that makes me say .

  6. Hi, and welcome to the forums. We are other users here, so there are limits on what we can suggest. It would be helpful to have more information. For instance, how are your emails getting into your notes? It sounds like they are being automatically forwarded to your Evernote account (to an address like username.a1b2c3d@m.evernote.com). Obviously stopping that in your email program would be a first step.

Also, on which platform do you mostly use Evernote: mobile app, desktop app, Web client?

I am waiting for AI in Evernote. It will transform the way of doing things, analyzing my second brain and so much more. It is now far from being zettelkasten and Notes linking has just been recently (relatively) released. So I am waiting at least Gpt-3 or 4 to arrive to do basic, routine AI tasks, like:

    1. Analyze content and make table of contents with tree-structure
    2. Link all connected by sense notes to each other with a hierarchy
    3. Select all images in all notes and compress them (for God's sake how long can I wait for this feature).
    4. Summarize the notes, drive conclusions
    5. Instantaneously search internet for needed data
    6. ideate

    and so much more!!!

Let me expand on my earlier question. Will Evernote develop its own in-house AI implementation, or license a mature version from another company? And in the latter (more plausible) case, will it firewall your notes from all the other information that the AI mastermind is sucking up in order to do what it does? I have to presume that anyone who is willing to license their AI machine to other companies will expect to receive all the data in return, or else will charge more. If there is no firewall, then your data and ideas become everyone's data and ideas.

Your point #4 interests me also: Will the conclusions derived from the AI-summarized material be the appropriate ones, or even the most useful or plausible ones? Only, I suppose, if the AI engine knows everything about the enterprise (your business, your creative project, or maybe your life) that you are working at in Evernote. Otherwise there will be factors that ought to be taken into account in drawing a conclusion that AI cannot access. And even granted access to all the knowledge, there may be cultural or experiential factors that make an AI-derived conclusion inept for a specific person, circumstance, or organization.

If the ultimate point of Artificial Intelligence is that I never have to use my own intelligence again, then once more, hard no.

  8. Hi, and welcome to the forums. Unfortunately, you seem to be correct, in the Android app it isn't possible to display notebook locations (the usual Evernote terminology, rather than folder) with a list of notes by tag. It is possible to filter a list by notebook, which might be helpful in some circumstances. Tap the 3 dots at top right of the list of notes to get to the filters.

  9. Hi, and welcome to the forums. All I'm saying is that I'm not seeing that. In the Android version, when you're looking at the whole Trash list, there's a ... menu at top right, and one of the items there (in red) is Empty Trash. In the Web client, there's an Empty Trash button at the top of the list. Are those also grayed out? If you're on a paid subscription, you may need to contact Evernote support about this: https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.

How do I recover an old version of a note *using the Android phone app*?

I am a paid user, have been for years.

I tried to select and "cut" text, and it is not on the clipboard.

Also tried to sign into online version and cannot find my content anywhere ... ?!?

    Any help appreciated - TIA

Hi, and welcome to the forums. There are a couple of things going on here, seemingly, so I'll address what I understand. Which is mainly that the Android app does not have access to Note History, for some reason--I have run into this myself, and found it to be VERY inconvenient. As you've realized, you'll need to go to the Web version to do this. If you can't find any content there, the likelihood is that you've used the wrong username/email and/or password--which creates a new, empty account. Check your credentials and try again; hopefully you'll get in and be able to access the note's history. (And at some point it might be wise to delete the accidental new account--if you can remember the login!)

  11. Welcome to the forums, @Andrea27. Since you very wisely disconnected your PC from the list of devices connected to your Evernote account before reinstalling Windows, it seems unlikely that you've bumped into the device limit. It sounds as if you've done the things you could do on your own. If the problem persists (that is, if it was not a temporary Internet problem), you'll probably need to contact Evernote support, either on Twitter or by subscribing for just one month and going to https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.

  12. Welcome to the forums, @IanCutress. WRT taking multiple photos, it might be best to look for one of the other threads on that issue and post there, just to keep things clear.

Sorry to hear you're having the rotation problem too. Clearly it's not isolated. Here are the main paragraphs of the response from support after I sent them a screen recording:

    Quote

I understand that you are experiencing the app rotating even though the auto-rotation is not enabled on your device. Let me assist you with that.
I really appreciate all the information you've provided about this.
I'm glad to know that restarting your device resolved the issue.
If you continue to encounter this issue, please let me know so that we'll be able to investigate this further.

This of course is no assistance at all, and the problem is not resolved, since it will certainly keep occurring till they fix it. I plan to let them know this. I would urge anyone else here who has a paid subscription and can access to support to report the issue. They need to know it's not a one-off.

Just got too slow for me. Still is when I visit my wife’s account. I was spoiled by instantaneous search and local notebooks. Again my use case.

I run Legacy on an old Windows 7 computer, so it's relatively slow. I searched for a couple of terms that show up fewer than half a dozen times in my 1,600 notes, and got results in 5 seconds or a little less. In Evernote 10 on a much faster Windows 10 laptop I did the same and got results in 3-4 seconds. Make of this what you will, but I don't see a significant speed difference. And after a sync of the Legacy app, v. 10 had the search terms I'd used there pre-loaded, which surprised me; it didn't run the other way. Of course local notebooks is another issue entirely, and if you need 'em, you need 'em.

  14. Today I had my first experience of a real sync issue, using Evernote for Android. I had updated a note in the Windows program, and the update synced to the Web client. But I could not get the updated version to appear on my phone. I pulled down the list (which always works in seconds for me, and went to the Settings > Sync page. There were no unsynced notes from the Android app, just this one updated note that was not appearing. Fearful of note conflicts, I was careful not to do any editing on the phone. I restarted the phone, and still no luck. I didn't think of signing out, but I was close to thinking I might have to uninstall. Finally I created a new, test note in the Android app. That synced properly, and after that the other note appeared in its updated form, and I've had no further problems since. No real harm done, but not pleasant.

The green triangle means "Waiting to be synced". It means this notes were edited, but have not yet synced. It does explicitly NOT mean that the note is syncing in that very moment.

Once the triangle disappears, the sync has gone through.

A sync can be promoted through the tab "Synchronization" in settings.

In lists of notes in the Android app, pulling the list downward also forces a sync.

Please dont start harassing me about wether AI is useful within EN IMHO it is and I use it. Others can take it or leave it but this is a simple elegant solution.

No harassment coming, just curious what kinds of things you use it for in EN. I can't imagine it being useful for me, but that may only mean my imagination is too limited!

I tried this method, but it didn't work.

Since we are just other users here, we may not be able to suggest much more. There are two reports here, but it does not seem to be a widespread problem. If you are on a paid plan, you can contact Evernote support at https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/requests/new. If not, I think you can reach out to them on Twitter. If the problem persists, it might be worth subscribing for just one month in order to get support.

Evernote (free version) on Galaxy S21 FE Android phone is not working.  Whenever select an existing note to open it, it freezes and spins.

    Any suggestions welcome.

    Thanks.

Welcome to the forums. This thread is about a problem on Windows. Problems on Android are likely to have completely different causes and solutions. Please look at the Android-specific support forum: https://discussion.evernote.com/forums/forum/718-evernote-for-android-issues-versions-100-and-above/. There you may find that an already-existing thread matches your situation. Best of luck!

I have indeed entered the WEB and the information is not there, even from a note I have just made, Only the title tags and little text of the notes are saved.  I thought it might be my PC and network issues, but it's not, because if I create a note in WEB it immediately reflects the desktop programme.

So it seems as if full note data is syncing out of the Web interface, to Evernote's servers, and down to your desktop program, but not up from your desktop program, to Evernote's servers, and then into the Web interface. If this is continuing to happen with new notes created in the desktop program, then indeed you should probably contact support. (Be aware that, as with most tech support these days, they will ask you to do things you've already done.) If you're not a paying subscriber, you can subscribe for just one month to get support, or I think you can reach out to Evernote support on Twitter.

This is a typical race condition: I can reproduce this easier by very fast note creation/closing  (a small title and a single word in the body and closing immediately, all this in a few seconds).

Perhaps that's why I couldn't reproduce it: I'm just not as fast as you young people. Perhaps Evernote is trying to encourage you toward more contemplative note-taking.
