  1. Update to the latest version by going to the evernote website and downloading from there, and you can turn it off. Vinnie
  2. If your time is not very valuable, you could use export to clear those notebooks, reduce to one and import the notes back. There are lots of very detailed posts in other threads that describe how to do this. Search is your friend. On the other hand, if your time is valuable, you could subscribe for a month, consolidate your notes into one notebook, and then unsubscribe. Vinnie
  3. I used the ignore function twice so far today... and it's only 10 am where I am! That means I have a feed where I see posts from folks who actually come to ask for help and others help them -- no complainers! Vinnie
  4. @Shadowfoot, I do a variation of what @Dave Greensuggested. I created a meeting notes template. My SOP is open the template, duplicate it and change the "template" title to describe the meeting, and add a calendar object at the bottom of meeting note form. That way I can quickly find meeting notes by going to the candear and clicking the link. Vinnie
  5. @Backinmotionvet, Duh, I should have realized from your username that your patients weren't people! I can't explain why you can't make a new note. But it struck me that the conversion from Legacy could be a problem. One workaround I've seen others use in different circumstances is to make a few empty placeholder notes at home base where you have good Internet, let them sync to your portable device, then maybe you will be able to open and enter info into that precreated note in the field. It's good you filed for a support ticket; you may need them to help resolve this. Vinnie
  6. Sure, I didn't mean to suggest that the OTC strategy is a replacement. Could be a helpful alternative for now, though. Vinnie
  7. Not the same thing, but you could put Topic A, B, and C in separate notes and then use a table of contents note to provide quick access to each of them. With the newer backlink feature, it would be easy to jump from A back to the TOC, then to, say C, then back to the TOC, etc. Vinnie
  8. One potential factor: the data format of notes in Legacy is incompatible with the format of notes that v10 uses. They are converted to v10 format when you open the note in V10, but perhaps you must be online for this to happen (not 100% positive about that). So, it's possible that if you try to open a legacy note with V10 while offline, it may not work. Others here are more expert in this than I am; perhaps one of them will be along to confirm my supposition. (Also, a side note, since you refer to "patients," you realize that Evernote is not HIPPA compliant?) Vinnie
  9. Ignore user is your friend, @PinkElephant... just sayin...
  10. And in my experience, the Android client is very sensitive to hardware. I have a Pixel 6 which works fine. I also have a ruggedized Doogee phone I use in a mount on my motorcylce. The Doogee has less memory and less good hardware in general. Evernote works pretty poorly on the Doogee - takes forever to sync for instance, while the Pixel 6 is reasonably fast. If you do a search, you'll find posts on reinstalling the Android client, which might be helpful in solving your problem. Vinnie
  11. It's not quite search, but I believe cntl-q on the windows client (cmd-J on a mac) will find a string in a tag that doesn't fall at the beginning. For example, if I create a tag "tag ralph tag" , hit cntl-q and type "ralph" inside the search box, "tag ralph tag" will be in the results list. Vinnie
  12. Also, if there is a discrepancy between what you see on your Windows client and what you see on Android, log on using the web client. What is on the web client is what is on Evernote's servers. That will help you figure out which device has the problem. Vinnie
  13. Mike, I have a template I use for meeting notes. I always add a calendar event at the bottom of the notes. That way I can click on, say, yesterday's calendar entry to see the meeting notes. It's very convenient for me to use / as opposed to the mouse to add the link -- that's my primary use for / so far. I've also started to play with using the slash to create a divider. I know I can do that with markdown, too. I'm not sure which method my fingers will wind up preferring. I think many users don't even know about the markdown shortcuts -- I didn't either until I saw the YouTube video that Vlad Campos did on the subject. For them, and I suspect for me going forward, the / could be a real help. But the point of my original post here is just to observe that, in every instance I have personally experienced, if I just keep typing after the slash and ignore the window, it goes away within a few keystrokes. I'm a good enough typist that the window comes and goes very quickly - almost instantly. And, no, on my system Evernote does not try to start an audio recording when you type and/or -- just keep typing. I got used to the prompt popping up and going away very quickly and now it just doesn't bother me at all. I don't use code blocks, so I don't know how the / performs inside of them. Given all the dislike that folks have posted about the feature, I just thought an alternate view might be of interest. Vinnie
  14. A somewhat different opinion... But if you just keep typing, none of the functions get in the way, right? It's just the display. So, if I type 17/3/24, I still get the date... or if I type and/or that works fine too... just my personal opinion but the menu pop up comes and goes so fast it doesn't bother me at all - half the time I'm looking at the keyboard to make sure I hit the / and I don't even see it. And the ability to get the + functions without having to mouse up to the menu bar is an efficiency improvement for me. Vinnie
  15. I myself am not interested in conversations that devolve into who is to blame for whatever difficulty a poster is asking for help to solve. I usually move on when that happens. But @pansovic, I understand that you are trying to get your system working and are frustrated by the issues you are encountering, and hoping that your primary intention here is to get your system operating again, let me offer my opinion that I think you have just a couple of options. * Leave Evernote and spend your time deciding on an alternate platform and figuring how to move your notes from Legacy to the new software. This has advantages and disadvantages that only you can work through. Or... * Continue to invest time in getting your system running again. If you focus on continuing to try to get your system running, before doing anything else, I would strongly suggest opening a support ticket with Evernote if you haven't already. Can't hurt and it might help. While you're waiting for a support person, I think you have two paths you could follow: 1) continue what you have been doing and try to get your notes to sync up. Problem with this is that the errors you are receiving could be caused by corruption in your local database. You have a lot of notes, which will make it hard to get past this problem, IMO. Maybe support can help -- probably your best hope if you stick to this approach is that support can do something on the server side to address the issue. I don't know what the likelihood is of that. 2) Follow @PinkElephant's suggestion a few posts ago. Basically, start over by deleting Evernote completely so that the server will write a new copy of your version 10 local database. Once it has done that, you can go back to culling your database if you still want to. There are numerous posts that give blow-by-blow instructions about how to do this. But basically, use Revo Uninstaller to completely remove all of version 10. Then download a new download file from the Evernote website (Not the Windows store) and use it to install a new copy of Evernote. This approach has the advantage of saving time -- you can do this while you are waiting to hear from support, and this is overwhelmingly likely to be the first thing that support will ask you to do anyway. BTW, it's apparently a lot easier for the server to create a new local database copy if it has plenty of local storage to work with. So, if you are short on storage, it might be worthwhile to address that. I hope you can get your situation resolved whichever approach you take. Vinnie
  16. Maybe add a pastry. If nothing else, you will feel better! 🤪 Vinnie
  17. The web client will reflect what is on Evernote's servers, so it does indeed appear that the changes on your PC are not making it to the Evernote server. Any firewalls or VPNs in place that your PC has to connect through? If your Windows PC is a laptop, a simple thing I would try if I were in your situation, would be to go to a coffee shop with good Internet, have a café con leche, and open Evernote. Maybe even have a second coffee. Then log into Evernote using the Web client and see if your note count is changing. That will tell you whether the issue is related to the broadband connection you usually use. Vinnie
  18. For me it happened with a download from the Evernote website that I initiated myself. But it was only on one "micro-version" and it corrected itself a few days later wiht the next update. So, unfortunately, your issue may be different. Vinnie
  19. Evernote is not HIPPA compliant, as far as I know. HIPPA is a set of requirements in the US to protect privacy of medical information. Depending on your application, that could be relevant. Also, your account could always be hacked by a smart, bad actor using social engineering techniques. One poster here a while ago reported losing bitcoin resources - this poster thought someone managed to get into his account to the note where he stored his access keys. So, while my impression is that Evernote's security is pretty good, it IS a cloud service and you should be smart about how you use it. I, myself, generally don't put documents in Evernote that contain my social security number - that's an ID number in the states that, if a bad actor gets, it makes it a lot easier to steal your identity. Vinnie
  20. This may allow me to use Evernote as a filing system for files. While I have files in Evernote, they are generally copies and I tend to keep the originals in File Manager. I use those originals when I make changes to them. It's just a little too awkward and difficult to use Evernote as my primary repository. The weird path names, etc... But if Evernote has some basic file management-type functions, I may change my mind. Vinnie
  21. And, off topic, but one wonders what the result is for such a search in @Jon/t's Evernote account! 😀
  22. I'm glad the idea is helpful to everyone. I don't deserve credit for it though. I learned the trick from @Stacey Harmon. Vinnie
  23. I'm not nearly as technical as you, so for me Evernote is the best by far. I have a client who has resources in Notion that I need to access sometimes, and I find the interface very unfriendly. I can see the utility of Obsidian, but my sense is it is better for people with some coding abilities. Vinnie
