  1. Depending on workflow some apps work better than others. But I couldn't find one that matched what EN 6.25 did for me.. V10 didn't for sure. Nimbus may have been closest from a look and feel perspective but it was missing too much. Though it did have local notebooks, a requirement of mine. My use case is paperless, task management, some notetaking, and some tables/templates for phone calls and other logging activities. Mostly I search the repository. As I've stated somewhere in these forums my conversion was to a bespoke system of Windows files/indexing, Mega for backup/sync, Workflowy for notes and tasks, Google sheets for tables, Directory Opus as the gateway to my repository, and AutoHotKey to automate interfaces. I used the EN export to HTML option which lets you export tags which means I can search by old EN tags in the new set up. No issues with PDFs as Windows indexes any PFDs which weren't already indexed. Sounds more complicated than it actually is. At the end of it all I control all of my paperless stuff. Directory Opus for me looks a bit like EN, Left panel - file list - display of selected file. DO supports saved searches with saved display layout. I am amazed as to how fast search is in Windows. Saved searches in DO are instantaneous across 320k files. Exporting to HTML creates a file for every image, attachment, etc.., so 55k notes became 320k files. There options based upon use case, though I'm not sure everyone wants to roll their own. I just didn't see any other way. I've been converted for about a year now. I think I may be as productive now as I was with EN which I didn't think would happen. Now it's wo Windows open as opposed to one, a browser with WF and DO. I have a Basic EN account and check back in the forums to see if things have changed. Maybe the new guys will make some changes to draw me back into the fold.
  2. Or... "The RMS Carpathia is on the way so hang in there for a while"
  3. The thing I found most interesting in the announcement was $100 M in revenue. Using $50 as an average (use what you like but the arithmetic is easier) that's about 2 M paid users of 250 M claimed. Mox nix end of the day but telling re conversion rate. Wonder what the valuation is, enquiring minds and all that.. No horse in the race as I've been converted and off EN for almost a year now in my bespoke system. Will be interesting to see how a company with a portfolio like Bending Spoons integrates EN into the fold.
  4. For sure. Hence the do it in small batches. You could copy a subset of notes to a new notebook and run your tests there. Less likely to do damage.
  5. After I left EN I started saving images to PDF to enable indexing when need be. I now use Windows Indexing and search to find things. I now use WF for notetaking and task management and use links between WF and my file store. FWIW.
  6. @John in Michigan USAYeah, this is one of the things that made me leave EN last year, though no local notebooks was probably the biggest issue for me. I keep an eye on the progress and V10 is much faster than it was a year ago, web version anyway. The Internet centric model by its nature will generate lags, many being sub-second and slightly noticeable. Index updates would seem to be most problematic if one is used to 6.25.1 real time index updates in the local environment.
  7. Don't know the answer to that. You could query support re potential issues or make a small change followed by other incremental changes if things seem okay. Rumor has it you can have new and old open at the same time.
  8. One of the issues with old Evernote was that accidentally deleting a tag would not update the Updated date. If this was remedied in new Evernote try a modified date search (updated:yyyymmdd), around the time that you had the issue. Hopefully you will find your notes, sans the new or old tag..
  9. @PinkElephant Don’t think I need to go to the dark side! 😂 You list the reasons I rolled my own solution - browser based so update lags, no local notebooks - and probably not getting redressed due to architecture. V10 has become a good product, just not so good for my use case. All my indexing and OCR is local, everything I sync is encrypted, and updates are real time. Not a perfect world, I use two app windows (Directory Opus and Workflowy), though pretty close to 6,25 feature and performance for what I do. 🤷‍♂️
  10. Definitely a use case thing. About 20% of my EN notes were confidential and hence Local Notebooks. I've talked about it elsewhere but I ended up using MEGA as the "sync" engine for my files,. End to end encryption with fast sync on my PC and IOS devices. I do lose content search on IOS but not a big issue as most of those files are easily findable via file name search. The new set up is working well for me but it is multiple tools (somehow I've added 3000 notes since I switched earlier in the year). Would be nice to have a single tool, but to your point I don't think local notebooks are coming back, ant time soon anyway.. Thanks for the kind words.
  11. I was talking about the process inefficiencies. Some of the things I used to do with 6.25.1 are now multi step processes with V10. With AHK I could create a hotkey for the those processes. So one keyboard combo versus clicking through menus. I tend to use AHK with any anp to automate repetitive processes. Some hotkeys can be complicated. For example, when I was using EN I had a set of hotkeys for forwarding different types of emails to EN. The "script" would add the to address, clean up the subject, add tags to the subject and clean up the added lines at the top of the email leaving the cursor at the end of the subject line if I wanted to add a reminder.. So hist a hotkey and it all just happens. I've replicated those hotkeys in my new set up. Not everyone's cup of tea, I just get irked when I find myself repeating the same combo of steps over and over. End of the day, I know I can override the UI inefficiencies of V10 with AHK but I can't fix sync speed/issues, lack of local notebooks, not so good PDF display, and a few other things which keep me from coming back. 🤷‍♂️ After 12 years using Evernote can't help but come back to the forums to see if things change.
  12. Maybe you are waiting what you think is an appropriate amount of time after leaving platform X and starting on platform Y, but to your point you just don't know if the sync is complete with V10. And then you generate a conflict. Don't know if it is worth cleaning up whatever conflicts you have and then doing an all notes in modified date sort check before proceeding each time you change. PITA but might cut down on some of the grief. Update lags were built into EN with the V10 structure. Or maybe they were always there but were never noticed with a 100% local data base? Splotchy internet coverage can cause issues but overall sync is just a little slower. One of the reasons I departed EN. V10 just didn't fit my use case as well as it once did. I didn't want to wait for search results to update when I was working a list. 🤷‍♂️
  13. Per @gazumpedShift+Win+S. To get a single screen in a multi monitor set up you have to drag from one corner to the other or do a full screen mode and use the built in tool to crop the screen you want. Neither of which is quite as convenient. But the flexibility and clip Window option makes it worth it, my view anyway.
  14. Yeah, my recent forays with the web client have been much better. I think I could pound some of the inefficiencies into submission with AutoHotKey. But the lack of local notebooks and the annoying browser lag are still issues. 🤷‍♂️
  15. For sure not everyone's cup of tea. Hope you find what something that fits.
  16. Reported elsewhere in the forums. A combination of apps. My prime use case has been paperless, tasks, and general note taking. I wanted to be able to access confidential and regular stuff on multiple devices/platforms. I wanted good fast search. I wanted as simple a linkage as I could get between apps. So I rolled my own as I could not find one product that did the job, other than 6.25.1. ☺️ For my repository I exported all my notes via HTML (57,000) to a local folder structure using MEGA as the cloud provider for syncing. This keeps EN tags in play for search. MEGA has end to end zero knowledge encryption and an IOS app. Two branches in MEGA tree, Evernote and Post EN. All the new stuff is in Post EN folders. 2500 docs added year to date. I turned on Windows Indexing for the MEGA folder. Search speed is amazingly fast. Few lags with 25 GB of files. I use Directory Opus as the gateway to the repository. It provides search and display and has an easy to use saved search equivalent. It's kind of my EN substitute GUI. Has nice touches like dual folder display and metadata editing. I use Workflowy for task management and note taking. I use AutoHotKey to automate the repetitive stuff. For example, I may add the title of a file to a node in Workflowy and add a reminder. When I hover over the line in WF and press <RIghtMouse><Ctrl> a search is executed in Directory Opus and the file is displayed. I use Google Sheets to replace all of the tables I had in EN. The sheets can be linked in WF. Basically I have DOpus always open on my right screen and WF open in a browser tab on the left. Sounds more complicated than it is, but I guess I morphed here in the first couple of months. At this point I am as productive as I was with Legacy. No lags. YMMV. I'd as soon be in EN, but V10 really wasn't working for me. It's a use case thing.
  17. Three reasons I left V10, my use case in particular. It's click and scroll happy, your PDF issue as an example. It takes longer to find things without the shortcut bar, always visible, the saved searches icon, and tag finder, Alt+Shift+T, I mean you can type it all in the search bar or click your way through, but it just takes longer. For me anyway. No Local notebooks. A real issue for me. It was slower performance wise, though recent releases (web) have improved dramatically. So close to par now, but still slower to display stuff. Good luck in your decision making.
  18. Yeah, I faced the that dilemma at the end of last year, and went for door number 2. Which is not an option for the faint hearted. You need to be sure there is no path forward for you on V10 as there is some work involved, some of which is potentially cleaning up your data. Glad I did it now but it was a journey If you decide to move on I would recommend before Legacy sunsets as the export tools therein are much better than those in V10.
  19. Moving something and changing the content are two different things. Some view tag as part of the content of a note so a tag change equals modified. Moving a note is a different story. One opinion in the wilderness.
  20. Ever try to find a note after accidentally changing a tag? In old EN , good luck.
  21. Whatever you do it's unlikely you will get an equivalent of old Evernote. And your use case will dictate which of the competing products might or might not work well for you. Personal story for what it is worth. My use case with EN was predominantly paperless and task management, be it it GTD, TSW or just tasks. None of the other products on the market worked for me as well as 6.25.1 did. So I rolled my own. I created a repository on my C drive using MEGA as a cloud provider (for backup and access on other devices with end to end zero knowledge encryption). I exported all my notes (57,000) using the HTML option by year withing notebook (4) into one part of the MEGA folder tree. I created a new branch of the MEGA folder tree for post EN documents. I used Windows Indexing of name and contents to enable search. Search works remarkably quickly for a 25 GB "data base". Surprised me. I use Directory Opus for access to and manipulation of the repository; I use WorkFlowy for task management and access to the repository in some cases I use AutoHotKey to facilitate and streamline the process from saving emails to finding things. This is not something I wanted to do but I saw no other option. New EN was just too slow from a process perspective, so many extra clicks for my use case, and nothing else would work. As you can see it took quite a few bits to replicate 6.25.1 for me. 🤷‍♂️ At this point I am as efficient as I was in 6.25.1. But not a journey for everyone. Good luck on yours. Maybe new EN will morph to what you need.
