  1. Regarding freeze-situations in EN10, Not here. But saw a similar effect in Legacy now 🤔: With the new sync (RTE - Real-Time-Editing), EN10 opens a so called "RTE room" on server side to distribute note changes immediately to other clients. As long as such a RTE room is open (means: as long as this note is open to edit in EN10 - and some (unknown) time more), Legacy cannot sync changes to this note. This leads to sync stops for for this time (changes in Legacy are frozen...). In Legacy's log file you will find messages like [ERROR ] xxx EDAMSystemException: errorCode=RATE_LIMIT_REACHED message="Attempt updateNote where RTE room has already been open for note: xxx" [INFO ] xxx Client synchronization finished, status: failed [ERROR ] xxx Synchronisierung aufgrund eines unerwarteten serverseitigen Problems fehlgeschlagen You do not have to explain to me that Legacy does not and will not support RTE, is deprecated and will go to die anytime in future. But as long as [bla bla bla], some of us have to use it and should know about such effects 😉
  2. Could you all come back to the topic of this thread, please? 🙏 Discussing AI in and around EN and its users is it worth to start a new one elsewhere 😉
  3. Oups - it works fine in EN10.56.9. Earlier version had this problem (IIRC). If a write i.e. "d:\temp", then mark the text, click CTRL-K the define a hyperlink, enter "d:\temp" to the link-field and "OK" (or "Anwenden" in German UI 😉), the new hyperlink works OK in EN-application. It cannot work in EN-browser because the browser does not allow to open local folder (normally) Don't be worried about the tooltip on such a hyperlink. You will see a decorated (but valid) address like "file:///d:/%5Ctemp". "%5C" is a synonym of "\" and "file:///d:" advises a browser to use a file:-protocol instead of default "http:". This is also true for Umlauts - they are escaped to a %-syntax to be valid HTML. Even links like "d:\temp\Umlaute-äöü-ÄÖÜ-ß.txt" work correct on my maschine. They open my default text editor to edit this file...
  4. Are you sure? Is it an insider information or was there an overseen statement from EN? If it is really necessary to double the data volume on server site, I cannot see the real need for EN to do this. New sync might be more reliable (really? - never had a problem with the old - but like it because I know what's going on 😉) - but doubling data volume on their site and syncing both pools for all that continue using Legacy is very expensive for sure... 🤔
  5. Legacy is unlimited on this. EN10 limits it to 50 notes with its first edition. Some guys found a parameter "multiSelectionLimit" in configuration files to enlarge this limit to app. 1.000 - but not more.
  6. Moreover: To get them back, they have to re-install Legacy (after having read this thread or contacted support because EN staff declined to simply download it) because EN10 installation removes Legacy (program [*]) from the computer 👎 [*] After having re-installed Legacy, content of local notebooks reappears immediately 👍
  7. @Federico Simionato I've written down my key reasons in Evernote (it's not a big task to find and follow the link 😉) I daily run both versions - V10 in an Teams environment and Legacy for private (much more) purposes - but I cannot run V10 for both because I cannot have two accounts open in parallel 😡 @Sugeeth Krish THX for your shortlist of new V10 features. I'll compare it to mine and maybe add some hints how to overcome lost functionality with new tricks. But is it really a "brand new feature" to "Bulk action @ 100 notes"? 🤔 I often use temp. tags to narrow down searches amoung masses of notes. Not even the "100" is a limit of EN10 - much more dangerous is the fact that assigning tags to notes makes the notes "changed" - horrible (or more polite: un-usable...) 🤧 All-in-all I agree with many arguments of @PinkElephant regarding "riding a dead horse" and need to run supported software for security reasons. But not with EN10 today - maybe EN11 🙏. I will not leave EN - I just want to really work with it...
  8. To be honest: I never had any reason to backup lokal EN data. It's a cloud based service, and the service provider has to care for backups on server side.
  9. There are simply two reasons for slowness: If EN seems frozen for some time -> Sync (on slow HW and iNet) If EN seems sluggish -> stylish new user interface 😉
  10. THX - this is really true in many other cases (not only EN) 🤔
  11. I use EN for personal organisation including finance data - but I would never expect a specialized information gathering and management tool (like EN) to control calculations... My workflow is (simplified) as following: gather information all around the day most often by scanning documents or making photos on mobile or clipping from screen rework new notes every evening adjust titles of new notes comment attachments (scans, photos, clips) in note text add tags to define further steps [1] and|or classify note content [2] add a first reminder date move to destination notebooks rework notes depending on next steps or classification if you have more time i.e. merge new notes with others (depending on your workflow) extract financial information and copy it to simple Excel sheets [3] rework tags to reflect your findings or decisions Use Saved Searches to keep track of next steps and projects Every search presents a result list of notes that can be sorted easily by reminder times or tags... Three steps are important and refer to your needs: [1] tagging for next steps (workflow) here I follow what has been described in Using tags to implement dynamic ToDo lists long time ago many other EN users use tags with a special character in from of tag names to group tags my workflow-related tags are (>... for when to do and _... for who has to do something) [2] tagging for note content regarding financial needs, my "type"-tags are =offer, =invoice and =overview (beside some others...). Some examples: "=invoice" together with ">1-to-pay" means that I have to pay something (by "reminder date") "=invoice" without ">1-to-pay" means that payment is done (by "reminder done time") "=overview" contains overview information on projects (i.e. links to other notes or ...) [3] ... simple Excel sheets attached to notes there will never be a document management tool available that will cover calculation features of spreadsheet apps but your calculation sheets are stored within you document management tool! During all the years I work this way, I had no need for note templates. Templates are only useful to create a nice note outfit. But they cannot held any (even initial) tags! So if you rely on tags (and a well defined workflow to use them), you will never ask for templates 😉 [Sidekick to your job - sorry:] If you are a financial manager you cannot work without spreadsheets. If you have to teach others to use it, you have to keep it simple. If it is simple, even younger people will accept it 😁
  12. Ok, ok - you are right 😁 I've to be more prezise: Impossibility to sort by Reminder Done time, Tags and Notebooks is my main reasons to stay with Legacy...
  13. Nothing in sight - we've to rely on EN 🤔 and fight&argue for our needs. Impossibility to sort by Reminder time, Tags and Notebooks are my main reasons to stay with Legacy...
  14. We had already a discussion around new links in EN10. See note link change from October last year - but nothing has gone better since 😞 in Legacy it is possible to Copy internal links (CTRL-ALT-L) to clipboard and insert it to any other application (Word, Outlook, ...) where it appears as a valid working URL to the note with note title as text and note address (URL) behind. So far so good - I use this heavily. It's great. Legacy places internal links in clipboard in different formats so that a receiving program may choose a valid representation: Programs that "know" HTML will present a valid hotlink like this (visible text in special colour with an URL "behind" and clickable) dump text editor receive only the URL as text: https://www.evernote.com/shard/s333/nl/55024365/85f05ab8-3a6e-4d89-8620-2a801cc3cff9 EN-Legacy itself belongs to the first category but knows about the sender of the clipboard token (EN itself 😉) and presents a valid internal hotlink with an URL of form evernote:///view/55024365/s333/85f05ab8-3a6e-4d89-8620-2a801cc3cff9/85f05ab8-3a6e-4d89-8620-2a801cc3cff9/ behind. This "intelligence" leads to a special effects Internal links seems only "internal" if used inside EN: If I click on such a link, I'm redirected to the note inside EN this is because EN uses URLs in form "evernote:..." If used outside EN, I'm redirected to the note within EN-Web (internet browser) ... because these links start with "https://www.evernote.com/..." If I want to surely want come back in EN-Legacy-App from outside (Excel, Word, ...), I have to replace the URL behind the link to the EN-internal form "evernote:..." EN10 is not as "intelligent" as former EN versions in EN10 it is possible to Copy internal links (CTRL-ALT-L) to clipboard but if pasted to an other app, this address appears without note title as text So far so bad (and this is your problem @kkrathi) in other applications you can see only ugly URL of form "evernote:..." the title text of the note is lost - but can be re-inserted by changing the link the other application (very uncomfortable) If you click on this you are redirected to EN10-App - but very often NOT to the suggested note 😞 😞 My "very often NOT" leads be to a question back to @gazumped: When I click Evernote links I generally get the note popping up. Are you really sure about that? My environment to test this with EN10 is: Windows-10, EN10.55.2 after pasting a link from EN10.55.2 by CTRL-ALT-L and CTRL-V to Excel Then change to any other note in EN10 Then click on link in Excel... In my case EN10 pops up but nevers shows the correct note. It remains with the currently open note.
  15. OK, not trival HTML but anything that will be understood by the underlaying browser. The technic behind hotlinks (here: in TOCs) and anchors will be the same. New sync algorithms will be based on smaller snippets of note text which can be identified in HTML also. Cannot see any relationship between needs (and problems) of TOC and possibly coming new sync.
  16. Don't know any reason for a new sync. 🤔
  17. You are using different types of checkmarks as EN10 uses two different modes for these: ✅ (Checklist) in front of lines default, inserted by CTRL-SHIFT-C anywhere in text or by typing "[]" or "[x]" (without surrounding quotes) at the beginning of a line ❎ (Checkbox) anywhere within text inserted by round icon with "+" -> "Checkbox" or by typing "[]" or "[x]" (without surrounding quotes) ... not at the beginning of a line Maybe different position and color of the (unchecked) checkmarks is by intent. If you check the boxes, you can see the difference more obvious (see above 😉)
  18. This is a solution for AHK v1 (because it does not support #Hotif) ::####:: { WinGet, active, ProcessName, A if( active = "Evernote.exe" ) { SetKeyDelay 30 SendEvent +{End}^c{Home}+{End}{Del}^+v } else { Send, {#}{#}{#}{#} } Return }
  19. Just thinking deeper (regarding "base is built"): To implement in-note TOC, every line in TOC needs an anchor within the note as a destination when clicking on the line. Simply having headings is not enough 😞 Note content is coded in HTML (at the end). So I will explain my thoughts by some HTML fragments... Headings are defined by H-Elements like <H1>text</H1> Anchors and hotlinks are defined by A-Elements Anchor: <A name="anchor-1">text</A> hotlink: <A href="#anchor-1">Jump to...</A> A complete destination headings might be <H1><A name="chp-1">Chapter 1 (in text)</A><H1> Within a TOC you have to code <A href="#cpt-1">Chapter 1</A> to see a hotlink (normally in blue) like Chapter 1 If you click on "Chapter 1" your cursor will move to the heading "Chapter 1 (in text)". As long as you do not change the href-name of an anchor, a hyperlink text and|or the viewable text of the target anchor can be changed to any value - without disturbing the functionality of your TOC construct... For EN developers this means that they have to implement... ... an internal href-name management names have to be unique within a note names should be retained as long as possible because they might be used in other situations also (not discussed here: maybe used to create backlinks to TOCs within a note or as anchors for hyperlinks from outside the note...) ... a suitable UI to manage hrefs by the user. href-names should be changed at all occurences (even outside the current note?) but href-names should be changable in single occurences also (to redirect single links) All in all it should be very easy to use (because normal EN-users do not want to know about this stuff - they simple want to see TOCs 😉) This is only a very small excerpt of needs to implement in-note TOCs. I'm sure, EN-developers are working hard on this. The've many examples in other apps - but it's not easy to get it really "easy to use" 😞
  20. But the base is built - I think (hope, expect, ...) we'll get in-note TOCs (in not soooo long time 🙏) (BTW: auto-generated in-note TOCs are not the end of all wishes: I'd like to get anchors in notes to create hyperlinks to jump to anchored phrases in notes 😉) True with at least one exception: If you plan to share an important note with others, creating related notes is a bad solution. My document of missing (Legacy-)Features is an example that would benefit a lot of a local TOC...
  21. One thought around database size: EN-Legacy offers a command CTRL-Help -> Optimize Database. Maybe it became huge over the time and can be optimized by using this command. If this does not shrink your database (or if your EN-Legacy database is built up from scratch and covers 50 GB), your notes really occupy 50 GB and EN10 should need similar space. Regarding URLs of type "evernote:///view/...": Both versions accept this as (internal) links to theirself in my case. This means: If I try to follow such a link, the destination note is opened in the currently active version. <Please note: I'm working on Windows, and the following might not be true on a MAC> If you try to follow these links from outside any EN-version (double-click on it with Word or so), this programs asks Windows how to open the URL. Here you can find a difference between the versions: EN-Legacy sets registry key HKCR\evernote\shell\open\command to open EN-Legacy (normally installed as "C:\Program Files (x86)\Evernote\Evernote Legacy\Evernote.exe"). This definition is done at installation time. EN10 sets this key to point to EN10 at every program startup. Effect: Everytime after you have started EN10, URLs of form evernote:///view will lead to EN10! This is a nice trick of EN10 to conquer Legacy installations 😉 To overcome this behavior (or to enable EN-Legacy to do the same), you may use a simple VBScript to start EN-Legacy. It resets this key to EN-Legacy's path and executes it: '.. Register EN as handler for evernote:-URLs - then start EN-Legacy itself     Dim image: image   = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Evernote\Evernote Legacy\Evernote.exe"     Dim key:   key     = "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\evernote\shell\open\command\"     Dim value: value   = """" & image & """ ""%1"""     Dim sh:        Set sh = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")          sh.RegWrite key, value, "REG_SZ"     sh.Exec image          Set sh = Nothing
  22. You are right, it's my list of missing features. But I'm not alone and will give some background to these subjects: Explicit synchronisation with server not possible... Especially in Teams environments it may happen that notes are changed nearly in parallel from different clients. It's a hard job to sync this (I know) but it might help to not let the system decide when to sync (immediately after every keystroke?, after an sentence has been ended? after focus is left? after <anything else>). Maybe I should change my headline to "Syncing is annoying in some cases" because I/we meet situations in which the current syncing algorithm is giving up, duplicates news and/or placing copies in a special folder. Creating date not visible and hard to change... As long as EN is used simply as a note taking app, this is indeed not important. But if you use it as a note managing app, the creating date is really needed to get events, articles, meetings a.s.o. into a meaningfull order (as long as we do not have further possibilities to assing properties to notes like described in Evernote - Research tags - General Feature Requests ). Here are some examples: Normally it is not of interrest to know, when I've got the information (added the note). The most important information (after the headline) is the date, an event or meeting will take place or when an article has been released. If you scan a couple (or masses) of older documents, nobody will know when you have scanned it. Every afterwork of scanning sessions start with defining propper headlines, event dates (my "creation date"s). Having done this, I move the notes to their destination notebooks (which are for me somewhat like a master-tag) and tag them according to my tagging rules. If logged F2 to change any note property inside a note list - General Feature Requests in hope to get note list functionality enhanced before a long time. But currently V10 is a real back-step in this area 😞
  23. Yep. If I manage a list of missing feature (for me), it would be fine to simply read about changes and not to search and find it by myself (what might be time-consuming as long as my list is not trivial). 😉
  24. and (after app. two weeks later...) Unfortunately, this is also my experience. 😞 OK, there maybe some questions that cannot be answered by you Experts here - but Support often seems to have no experts at all available. If you ask patiently and persistently, you will get to the next level of technical staff - who will not answer directly (this is OK - we do it the same way in our company). But they tend to re-ask supporters about facts that have been discussed already. Supporter comes back to you and so forth. At the (open) end simply no further feedback... (I've a ticket open in this manner since 18.02.23, last sign of life is from 15.03.23 with "There is not update at this time. Our development team is still investigating ...")
  25. Yep - but why not offering both? The nice version with the product and the in-depth version with an announcement here in the forums?
