  1. Actually, I've always found that little up-arrow in the corner of a note to be both intuitive and obvious: it means this note has not yet been synced, which can happen for various reasons (as Cal's post suggests). But of course, what is intuitive WRT computers is generally not "intuitive" in the strict or biological sense, but a matter of individual experience, perception, and preference.

As for where Evernote's reply is, these are mainly user-to-user forums. The EN support staff do sometimes offer comments, but not predictably (in my experience). Since the OP himself didn't follow up, any EN staff looking at this thread may have assumed that he had no interest in pursuing it further.

But sometimes when making notes in the Android app the font is Helvetica Neue (which isn't even a font available on my laptop) size 12 when it gets synced back to the Windows version of EN.

Welcome to the forums! This problem has (alas!) been noted many times before. If you go to the Android Help forum and search for Helventica Neue, you'll find a number of threads. So it's a known issue, but without a known time of being solved!

Does that only kill notifications? Or does it stop evernote from saving photos. It looks to me like they added this to the android app without adding a setting to prevent it from saving photos.

In support, there's a way to turn it off but it only works on the iPhone.

"By default, Evernote for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch saves copies of photos you take to your device's Camera Roll. To turn this feature off, go to the 'Account' tab, select Settings > Camera, then disable "Save Snapshots"."

Unfortunate there's no "save snapshots" setting in my android app.

I've responded to this on the other thread.

Just disabling, disabling and disabling any auto update of Evernote in Google Play. And, I do suggest to do it for everybody, to avoid stress, frustration and so on.

Actually, I've found that recent updates to the Android app (unlike the Windows program!!) have been improved, apart from the photo-searching idiocy. They've restored most of the Web-clipping/sharing functionality, for one thing, and it's once again possible to select and drag text within a note. FWIW and IMHO.

If I install it, does it coexist with the current v. 7.17.1 as an alternative way of accessing Evernote, or does it replace the current version?

    No.

    You're either in or out...

Sorry, Jeff, no to which? To the first, I presume (coexistence with the current version)?

In which case, I'll let it go and wait for the public release. I haven't been doing beta testing on Evernote.

  6. Here's my experience with this. Yesterday, a notification suddenly popped up over my Evernote screen about collecting photos. I didn't update the app (it's still v. 7.17.1); this just appeared. In my menu list (the screen accessed by tapping the menu button at top left of the main screen) there was now an entry "Collect Photos." Tapping it brought up a screen with a message "Evernote will collect photos that contain text from your gallery and notify you when they are ready to review." But there was nothing that actually appeared on this screen.

There was also a new COLLECT DOCUMENTS setting in the Notifications section of Settings: "Document notifications: When you snap a photo with text, you'll see a notification reminding you to save it in Evernote." It was checked by default, so I unchecked it. Voilà! This caused the Collect Photos entry in the menu list to go away!

At the same time all this showed up, my phone started throwing notification sounds every so often, with no notification in the notification panel. Very annoying. I powered down completely and restarted twice, to no effect. I don't know that Evernote was doing this; it could be a coincidence. But unchecking the "When you snap a photo with text, you'll see a notification" setting did seem to stop it. Evidently that's what turns off the whole "feature."

All in all, this whole thing seems extremely poorly thought out and implemented.

Just highlight the text so the cut/paste menu pops up...  click share... that brings up the standard Android app share options.. I use Google Print.

Vert easy workaround for a free app.

Superb! Brilliant! Also, kind of "duh" to the rest of us who didn't think of it! The only downside is that it may only print text, not images. At any rate, that's what happens with HP ePrint on my phone.

This isn't something we're currently working on. One thing you could do, if you wanted easy access to your notebooks, would be to use the List Widget and set it so that it shows your Notebook list.

I was going to point to this as a possible workaround--I work kind of like @Jonesing For Prosperity and @Momogardner729, and this looked plausible. Until I tried it and discovered that, in the current version of the app, the list of Notebooks is not an option! Maybe it was in December 2015, but not now. You can choose one Notebook to display, or the most recently viewed or updated notes, but not the list of Notebooks. This really needs attention.

You are right that the premium subscription is not that much if you take into account only Evernote.  However, I am willing to bet that most folks have a few different monthly services at a premium level and the costs for all of them add up to a bit more than a couple of coffees. It is about prioritizing services and how much you are willing to pay for a service.

Yes, it's a matter of prioritizing, and of deciding what Evernote is worth among the whole set of things one wishes to use. What I object to is the assertion sometimes made that Evernote Premium is overpriced absolutely. For many people it's not; for others it is. I do regret the loss of the Plus level, though. It does seem to me that it filled a need. Evernote says it is "less popular than we thought it would be," which suggests either that the need is not large, or that they overestimated it. The fact they're framing the move as a quest for "a better solution to meet your needs" may point toward the latter.

  10. Just two thoughts here, both of which I've expressed elsewhere, and both of which can be disputed, I'm sure.

    1. I continue to be surprised at the number of people (including some of the most helpful contributors to these forums) who are dedicated to using what I understand to be a multi-platform note-taking service for bulk cloud storage of documents, images, etc. I haven't tried to shift a lot of stuff to the cloud myself, so I'm out of the loop on this. But what makes Evernote a better candidate for that sort of thing than Dropbox, etc.?
    2. Evernote Premium costs US$70 per year, less than $6 per month. How many cups of coffee is that? How much would you spend at a café in a month to get free wifi? $70 at once is a fair amount of money for many people. But you put it on a credit card, and you can spread it out over time. It's not up to me to manage anyone else's budget. But for anything approaching professional use, it doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

Somewhat, for purposes of dealing with bugs that have risen to emergency proportions. (Sudden sci-fi movie giant-bugs flash. :o ) But I'm talking about monitoring the help forum, as well as the feedback forum, to see what customers want, or more specifically, what they hate.

  13. Nice.   I'm tempted to go back to the free version for awhile, just to see if I actually miss what I'm paying for.

Yet I really believe in paying for services I use, and Evernote definitely has value for my work as well as my daily life. I so much want to just love this thing and feel good about what I'm getting for my money. It's actually just the recent foul-ups in the Windows program that concern me--and even they don't really affect me as long as I never upgrade! But the lack of QA there leaves me concerned about whether that will become a system-wide trend.

  14. Thanks, @dbvirago. I've got a Premium subscription renewal coming up soon too, and have been thinking about Plus.

I posted some remarks earlier in this thread about how the Android Evernote clipping function had gone so bad. It has been improved in recent updates--not perfect yet nor even (I think) what it once was, but no longer a deal-breaker.

For me the biggest problem currently is the Windows program's declining functionality in recent upgrades. But as long as I never upgrade, I'm OK! So, I'm either happy enough or not yet aggravated enough to leave Evernote for Nimbus; but it's good to remember that there are options. I would certainly want to compare the privacy agreements before jumping.

  15. OK, in my outdated-but-well-functioning version of the Windows program, Print preview does pop up what looks like a PDF view in a new window, which appears to be just an Evernote child window, and has no save option. I don't use Chrome (Google knows too much about me already), and I just have Adobe Acrobat Reader set up to handle PDFs; but this window is definitely not Acrobat

If you use File / Print Preview..., that should bring up your note as a PDF file, which you can save and then email.

This is a brilliant tip, Jeff. I rarely print from Evernote, so I wasn't aware of it. But how do you save the print preview PDF file? I don't see that option. Of course, I'm still holding on to v. 6.5.4. Is saving a recent addition?

I'm not a programmer or anything like that, so I can only guess.

And my guess would be that the bugs are baked so deeply into the system that fixing them would risk ruining access and ability to edit billions of notes that were made with the buggy code. Other than that, I cannot think of any reason why Evernote would still struggle so badly with ultra basic features like typing a word and having it appear on the screen, the location of the cursor, copy/pasting plain text, font sizes, blank lines, etc.

Over the last year or so, Evernote has been working on redesigning the editor across all platforms (so I have read on posts in these forums). One hopes that ultimately this issue will get addressed in that process. But it may that in fact the older code has been ditched and the new code still hasn't been put completely right. Some updates to the Windows program (paste the ancient, well-functioning version I still use) have changed the pasting functions, but complaints about about formatting issues.

  18. I'm not sure if this could be achieved through Cronofy--I think that would only sync reminders, not creation dates; but if that would help, you could create a Google or other calendar specifically for this purpose and link it to Evernote through Cronofy.

Simpler solution might be to change the Note List view in Evernote itself. At the top of the Note List, to the left of the search bar, click the little down-pointing arrow. Switch to Side List, and sort by Created, and there's a list, albeit not in a tidy calendar format. Might be worth a look anyway.
