  1. Hi, and welcome to the forums. Problems like this have been reported numerous times, and searching the forums may turn up some solutions.
  2. Glad this is working for you, though I hope you're not using pirated software, which opens you to both legal issues and (I would imagine) security problems. I use SoftMaker Office as an alternative to MS Office, and it's great, with both free and paid versions--meaning that, as with Evernote, the paid versions can do more than the free ones. Editing a file, uploading it to Dropbox, downloading it on another device, and opening it there is not the same as editing a note in Evernote on one device, syncing, and opening it on another. As for OneDrive, Google, etc., how private are your documents in these "free" spaces? I prefer paying Evernote with cash to paying Google with my personal information.
  3. @lassala, you're right, I did skim, and I should perhaps not have spoken so absolutely on that small and somewhat careless basis. My bad. But I did, and still do, have the impression that you are recommending that others do as you have done, gradually move away from Evernote to Obsidian, and I stand by my comment that Obsidian (as far as I can see) cannot do everything that Evernote can (and vice versa), so that promoting it as an alternative to Evernote does not make sense for all purposes. As for Markdown--who's afraid of it? I just don't want to bother with it. I'll take your word for the tabs; I simply can't make them out on the screenshot. (I think tabs in Evernote Legacy must have been a Mac thing; I don't ever remember having them in the Windows program, and I would greatly have appreciated them if they'd been there.) The Evernote 10 desktop app absolutely supports having multiple notes open in separate windows (double-click on a note in the note list, or in Windows press Ctrl+Enter). As for which program/service works better, I say again that they are suited to different purposes, and saying one "works better" is like saying roses are better than butterflies.
  4. The first instance of the URL, in the gray bar at top right, is a special section of the note, a field populated when the note originates from or refers prominently to a URL. It's convenient for reference; there's no way to remove it from the interface. If you click the down arrow at the right end, you get options to go to, edit, or remove the URL. It is definitely redundant to have the source repeated at the top of the note; but the URL field at top right is often populated from something that appears farther down the note, if there is no URL source for the note content itself. As to the title, the clipper by default picks up the Web page title as the title of the note. If the duplication is annoying, as @gazumped says you can just change the title in the clipper before you clip. Or, once the note is created, you can delete both the title and the URL in the note itself.
  5. Have you been using it since you last posted in January 2021? A great many features have returned, and some new ones have been added. Reading your blog post, I get this as the gist: Evernote 10 could no longer do everything you wanted it to do--specifically, it could no longer have a tabbed interface, and it couldn't do multiple screens; so you're switching to Obsidian, even though it can't do everything you want, including not being able to do multiple screens or tabs. The logic eludes me. Looking at the Obsidian Website, a few things stand out to me: plain-text files, Markdown, and local files: "Your notes live on your device, period." I use Evernote to create notes that can include photos or documents, editable without knowing a special syntax, and accessible on multiple devices and OSes without my having to port them over. To me, it sounds as if those who want Obsidian want something that is pretty much the complete opposite of Evernote, which makes me wonder why Evernote had any appeal in the first place. It sounds to me like the two programs serve two equally legitimate but very different purposes.
  6. Oops, sorry for inattentiveness. I have no idea if it works on an iPad.
  7. Here's another possibility, which I only recently discovered. Adobe Acrobat Reader has a scrolling mode. You'll likely want to go into Read or Full-screen mode from the View menu. Then do View > Page display, and be sure Enable scrolling is selected. Then Ctrl+Shift+H starts and stops scrolling; the scroll direction and speed are controlled with the up and down arrows. It takes a little practice (before your presentation!) to get fluent with it. You could (again doing some experimentation with formatting before the presentation date) export your note from Evernote to PDF and use Acrobat Reader to scroll through your script.
  8. Take a look at this thread. It applies to the Windows desktop app, not the Evernote Web client, but describes what may be a similar situation, which turned out to be a bug in Web clipper that Evernote was made aware of and is working to fix:
  9. Hi and welcome to the forums. Can you say some more? Are you having the exact same problem as the original poster in 2017: an Acer Chromebook on which you had installed Evernote, but then it disappeared, and now Play is saying it's on the computer but you don't see it there? If not, specifics of your situation would help.
  10. Great tip in general! NB this works in the Windows desktop app, but not in the Web client, where the right-click menu is controlled by the browser.
  11. Since you started your own thread, there's really no need to post here as well. Once is enough to make the point, multiple posts only multiply confusion.
  12. One of the advantages of Evernote is its refusal to harvest and sell your data. You see popups asking you to subscribe, not popups advertising law firms or dubious medical products. Basically, in the free-lunch-less world, you can pay with money, pay with your data and privacy, or pay by clicking away popups. I haven't surveyed free note apps, so maybe there are some that are just created and given away for free, no strings, no data harvesting, no ads. How well are they maintained? How are bugs dealt with? I know there are programmers who just like to make and maintain useful stuff, and I respect and admire them as people who give service. But most feature-rich apps need to pay off for their creators in some way or other. EDIT: I hope that didn't come off as harsh. I understand that people's finances are what they are, and free stuff can be really important. I just mean that Evernote's finances also are what they are, and they may feel it appropriate to repetitively encourage people to subscribe. One thought: If you use the Web client at all (caution: it will count as one of your two allowed devices), clicking on your account name will drop down a dialog that includes a feedback option, where you could register your point. Other thought: If you have hopes of improved finances in the years to come, maintaining a free Evernote account now and putting up with the aggravation of popups can position you to still have all your notes when you're in a position to subscribe.
  13. But seriously ... if it is a bug (and it may be; I've never seen this), paying subscribers can report bugs here: https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/requests/new. Probably the easiest way to prevent this before (and if) it gets fixed is to exit Evernote completely before starting an all-consuming activity in another program: File menu, then Quit Evernote (don't just click the X at top right, that only closes the interface).
  14. Sigh. I'm sure Evernote will miss you because of all you have contrib.... Oh, wait. Well, anyway, I'm sure they will feel the loss of your.... Oh, wait. Perhaps this will sum it up best.
  15. I kept the old version of the Windows program for a long time, but gradually began using the Web version for some of the formatting things it could do that v. 6 could not. I began to get used to it and to trust it, and as features were added back and added in, I came to like it and actually find it more usable than the old version. It's all about what one gets used to, I guess. At any rate, I found using the Web version a good transition to finally installing the new Windows desktop program. Among other things, it has a lot of keyboard shortcuts that are not available in the Web version (because browsers snag those for themselves). It also allows you to establish import folders, where you can just deposit files and have them automatically imported into new Evernote notes.
  16. This definitely deserves a bug report, esp. since it just started in the last few days. Go to https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/requests/new if you have a paid subscription. Free users may be able to get support on Twitter; or go to https://www.evernote.com/client/web and click your account name at top left and select Share feedback.
  17. Here's the plan comparison page: https://evernote.com/compare-plans, with full info, including this.
  18. Interesting. I tried that page using the MS Edge browser, and had the exact same problem: the full-page clip hung at 3%. OTOH, this more or less random page clipped 100% very quickly: https://www.msn.com/en-us/foodanddrink/recipes/peach-butter-easy-crockpot-recipe/ar-AA11en3m. Could there be something odd about the Tomo System web page?
  19. Have you tried restarting the computer before doing the update? That might clear out some memory fog and let it run properly. And/or go to www.evernote.com and download the current version from there. If you do the latter, close down Evernote before installing: File menu, then Quit Evernote to be sure of quitting the program, not just closing the interface.
  20. Hi, and welcome to the forums. There is a specific forum for Android issues: https://discussion.evernote.com/forums/forum/718-evernote-for-android-issues-versions-100-and-above/. There are several threads there reporting crashes from earlier versions of Evernote for Android v. 10. You might take a look there for solutions.
  21. Great work you're doing, David! I know nothing about Chromebooks, but doing a bit of online search it seems that there are models available that have or can be updated to Android 11. Don't know if yours is one of them. This is really on Google (I always blame Google) for putting out an OS that is out of date and can't necessarily be updated to current Android.
  22. You should be able to update to v. 8.13.3, which might help. Go to the Play Store, or within the app go to Settings > Support > Check for updates. But I can't promise that 8.13.3 will not also have this problem. I don't do much handwriting in Evernote, so I don't know whether the problem exists on this latest version. But since 8.13.3 is the final version for Android 9 and earlier, and is not being updated or improved, if updating to it does not solve the problem, you won't be able to solve it on this device.
  23. Hi, and welcome to the forums. I haven't experienced this, but can offer some limited suggestions. Have you restarted the computer during this process? That could conceivably enable Evernote to start properly. If that doesn't work, there is a program called Revo Uninstaller that several knowledgeable people here recommend, which does a more thorough and reliable job of uninstalling software than the standard Windows uninstaller. The reason you're being asked to upgrade on the phone is that the Web client counts as one of your 2 allowed devices on a free account, so that it plus your computer and phone = 3. You could either continue to use the Web client, or go to https://www.evernote.com/Devices.action, log in, and revoke access to the Web client in order to get access to Evernote on your phone back. Hope this is some help.
  24. I would think that in order to play a video "directly in the note," as requested, Evernote would have to develop its own video player, or pay to license one from another company; and of course make sure it works on all types of devices and operating systems, and of course make sure it can play all common and uncommon types of video, and of course keep it updated as video formats change, and maybe scan each video for hidden security issues before playing it, and of course field complaints when it won't play a corrupted or unknown video file; and of course do all this for free for users who have not paid and never will pay one penny to subscribe, but would scream if playing videos became part of the paid subscription service.... And THAT is too much trouble, when every device has at least one built-in video player Evernote can summon.
  25. @romelden, if I'm understanding you correctly, you're saying that Evernote has prioritized tasks and todos over some basic functions in creating and editing notes, especially involving images. And I think you are correct in that. Ironically, there are also people who complain on the forums that Evernote is not yet adequate as a task/todo app! But certainly there are also others who complain about the inability to place images within a line of text, or simply to place them wherever one wishes in a note without resorting to a table. That is a shortcoming at this point. Hopefully now that task functions are well launched, Evernote will come back around to note-content related functions--and to syncing, which they have said they are working intently to improve. I mostly just take notes; I don't do much with images. And for note-taking, I find v. 10 a definite improvement, with regard to formatting and highlighting of text, use of headers, etc.; and also for its UI compatibility across platforms. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "Directly open and link to a new note."
