Every time I try to edit something in Skitch, it complains I need to upgrade Skitch, even though I have installed the latest 2.6 beta.

Jack, things got worse for me.

Now, I get a Skitch error every time that I try to annotate a note with Skitch.

What I do is:

1) I create a simple note in EN, with only text inside.

2) Click on the skitch icon in EN, an in 'Mark up entired note'

3) Immediately, I get an error message windows that Skitch has closed unexpectedly, with the options of 'Ignore', 'Report' and 'Restart'

4) If I choose 'Ignore', then Skitch open, but the note is not there. However, a new note is created in evernote, which is a copy of the original

 

I close EN, Skitch, shutdown my MBA, and do again the process, but the problem continues...

I know you guys are working hard, but you need to work smart.

Over many months now, you have made a reputation of having more new bugs with a new release.

Keep in mind two things:

1. You have stated many times you are 100 year company.

2. Rome wasn't built in a day.

What does all that really mean?

We had much rather you take your time and get it right, rather than rush out a new release or even a new beta, that has more BUGS!

Say, is anyone else's clipboard busted in the new beta?  I am running 5.2.0b2 on 10.8.3 - the last beta things were hunky dory, now when I try to copy and paste in Evernote it's empty (keyboard or mouse).

If you demand a more stable release for each beta it would mean less public betas, which means less feedback from a large userbase (quicker bug discoveries etc.) and fewer functional improvements in between betas, which means longer periods between official versions and even fewer product innovations. New betas should only mean a more stable release if we are talking about a service pack, and not when it comes to a product in constant development.

It works great on my work iMac — although one complaint. The original file was a JPEG viewed inline. The saved file is a PDF viewed as an icon. I understand if the edited file needs to be a PDF, but it should respect the "view as" settings that the user set.

When you say you "highlight, save, sync, and exit" do you just mean you click Save to Evernote?

 

The flow should go: highlight, "Save to Evernote", done.

I know this isn't supported yet, but wanted to raise that this build appears to work fine on Mavericks, except for Spotlight integration. No Evernote notes show up in Spotlight searches, even after trying to reload the mdimporter etc.

 

Hope this is helpful, and if you have any thoughts on this I'd appreciate it.

The "this file is a Skitch item" toolbar icon is superior to the "mark this item up in Skitch" toolbar icon. Perhaps lose the stripes in the former to simplify it?

It would be a great feature that when highlighting in Evernote, you could then add a note of your own, then search are your Evernote notes that have highlights w/notes attached, similar to how Kindle works.

The same thing happens to me.

I use latest beta versions of EN & Skitch on Mac OS 10.8.4

My experience of the first 5 minutes:

 

I download the new skitch beta and download the new evernote beta.  I choose a pdf in evernote at random and click "mark up a copy with skitch".

 

Skitch opens and the PDF is there.  I highlight, save, sync and exit.  Go to Evernote, sync, nothing.  There is an additional pdf sitting there (nothing is changed though).

 

Click that duplicated pdf and select "mark up a copy with skitch".  Skitch opens up, pdf is there, I highlight "copy" on it.  Save, sync and exit.  Go to evernote, sync, nothing.

 

Discover the (new) duplicate (now there are 2 duplicates) is now called "annotate" (and it has not changed with my highlighting either).

 

Then I decide to open skitch (rather than evernote), open "annotate.pdf" (the 2nd duplicate), highlight, sync.  Open evernote, sync, success!!  Annotate.pdf is changed.

 

Problems I have:

 

It's redundant to have to sync a file to both Skitch and Evernote

 

Why do I need a duplicate?  What if I don't want a duplicate?

 

Obviously there are some bugs with going straight from Evernote to Skitch and syncing back to Evernote since it doesn't seem to save to evernote unless I start with skitch.

 

The system is not very MB friendly, I used 15 MB in my short experience.

BUG REPORT:  You broke the highlight mode where you first click on tool, and then can highlight multiple selections of text.

 

After highlighting the first selection, the tool is turned OFF.

Loving the Skitch integration. Or at least I think I will. After installing the beta a 2 factor authentication window popped up. The code was sent to my phone as expected but clicking on continue does nothing. This happened on first sync after installing the beta, anyone else seeing this error? I seem to be locked out so will have to roll back a version.

Not specific to this beta, but here's a suggestion for improving v5.2.0's new ability to work with Office/iWork files. You will probably resist but I think it could be very useful:

 

Allow the import of folders of Office/iWork files. Importing these folders would automatically create a new notebook just for these files.

 

Evernote could then become a powerful grepping tool, something that is sadly lacking on the Mac. (The only app I know of with decent grepping abilities is SpotInside, which hasn't been updated in a long time and is getting rather long in the tooth.)

Yup, the new highlight shade is far too shady in its sophistication. Bring back the honest squeaky skeuomorphic yellow of old.

 

One plus: the rearrangement of formatting icons make sense.

I could not contain my excitement when I read this post. I immediately downloaded the beta and signed in and sat patiently while it loaded all of my notes. I was completely baffled at the fact that the highlighting color is not the same as the one for iOS. I really really hope it is for testing or because it's a beta. It seems so nonsensical to me to have a two highlight functions that act differently. Does anyone have an answer?

Good point. Aesthetically speaking, that is very unpleasant to view. Surely, we ought to have color options. I am always for more and more options, and I am afraid you'll never be able to convince me that 50 million users ought to use just one color of highlighter, and no other; well, two if you count iOS

I don't quite see the improvements to the highlighting feature.

First I thought it didn't do anything - but it turns out I could not see the pale yellow behind the marked text, and, I could not see the diminutive square behind the mouse arrow either. Why not make the pen flare blue same way the formatting options do when the highlighter is on?

Also, I find it counterintuitive that the highlighter is toggled if you click a word instead of highlighting it.
