You shouldn't lose notes if you preserve the exb file, just copy it to a safe place. In any case, you don't need to delete your Evernote files, just rename the following folders, that way you should get a clean install: C:\Program Files (x86)\Evernote C:\Users\username\Evernote If that doesn't work, I would try Windows Safe Mode, though I am not entirely sure you can run an update (some programs don't work in Safe Mode), worth a try at least.

I succeeded in dragging the encrypted text after a few attempts, and it did not become an image, was still accessible. Thanks!

Problem
Don Dz replied to Lawlietlemars's topic in Evernote for Windows Issues (Versions 6.25.1 and under)
I cannot read that language, but the parts I can read seem to refer to Windows installation errors. You could try removing all traces of Evernote before reinstalling, including all files in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Evernote C:\Users\username\Evernote By doing this you will lose all data not already backed up. This is what they call the nuclear option. It is also possible you might have a virus. Just some ideas with so little information to give advice. -
I have confirmed this is fixed, thanks! I am surmising this was fixed by disabling drag and drop in encryption blocks, right? If this is correct, would it be possible to add an option to disable drag and drop inside of notes in general? Drag and drop is a source of accidental note errors and data corruption, through an unintended mouse action.

Note Sort order not saving
Don Dz replied to CCNET101's topic in Evernote for Windows Issues (Versions 6.25.1 and under)
I tried it. When I restarted it, it changed the sort order to tags, from my usual reverse updated. Even though it doesn't work for me, what I posted above does, so I guess it is good enough for now. UPDATE: I think I may have found the problem. File/exit seems to save the sort order from the saved sort for the saved search or tag in current use, not the sort order used for "all notes", if that makes any sense (selecting "all notes" first before exiting doesn't save the sort order in current use). I exited while using the above saved search and it apparently fixed the problem. For now I guess. There really ought to be a saved sort for "all notes", oh well. -
Note Sort order not saving
Don Dz replied to CCNET101's topic in Evernote for Windows Issues (Versions 6.25.1 and under)
You could try using an asterisk (*) as a saved search (it will find all notes) then save the sort order you want, so you can reuse it.. I use this to fix my frequently changing sort order, which appears to be affected by how much time I spend using a different sort from another saved search or tag. -
I have noticed that exact behavior for at least a year, except not frequently enough to worry, but I guess my participation in beta testing has caused me to ignore minor annoyances that don't hinder my work flow. If it can be fixed, great. It maybe that there is some specific way to cause the behavior more often than what I am seeing. I have never been able to trace the cause, hence never reported it.

Just wondering, isn't the EN Helper app just the right click menu for the EN tray icon? If so, that means EN is running in the background, right? While you can create a new note with Ctrl-Alt-N without opening the main screen (or the helper menu), on my computer the main screen opens faster than the new note screen. FWIW.

bug in search
Don Dz replied to sjpschmid's topic in Evernote for Windows Issues (Versions 6.25.1 and under)
Also found no results for aslia after clipping that page to Evernote, both article and full page. I have run into a similar issue where web copied data contains hidden html text, sometimes I use an html editor to find the match. In a couple of instances the issue was important enough that I deleted all hidden matches. Now I generally paste as plain text whenever possible, to avoid this issue. I suppose it is better to find hidden content, than failing to find content I know is there, though I learned to get around that issue as well. -
Evernote for Android 8.12
Don Dz replied to Nick L.'s topic in Evernote for Android Issues (Versions 8.13.3 and under)
I encountered a rather unusual situation when doing a search: when taping on a particular search result, I found a note with the title of one note and the body of a completely unrelated note! I thought I had lost both notes through corruption or something, but I noticed that the Windows version had the correct note. After trying many things (clearly the cache, making notebooks online only again, etc), I was only able to fix the problem by completely uninstalling and reinstalling the app. This is rather disturbing because sometimes opening a note sets it in a edited state, whether I want it or not, thus risking making a change permanent if I move around too quickly. -
I didn't see a notification for this, found it by accident, sorry. Not much to add, I just gave up on trying to make OneNote work, way too slow, not sure why my experience was negative while others like OneNote. It maybe that my EN data did not get along well with ON, I had similar issues exporting EN data to Simple Note, SN kinda choked on it, very slow.

Interesting, with your additional steps I was able to reproduce it. Using the hotkey, or right clicking, or the edit menu, the result is the same. Problems with bullet lists and jumping cursors have been reported before, but I thought they were fixed already, I guess not quite in this particular case.

can't type in a blank note
Don Dz replied to Alan Hague's topic in Evernote for Windows Issues (Versions 6.25.1 and under)
Something similar happened to me once before. Signing out in the File menu and back in seemed to fix the problem. Actually, this seems to fix many problems in EN. -
Oh, I thought employees did that, rather than users/moderators. I have personally created a topic on this at least once, and commented on others discussing this at least a couple of times in the last year or two. Since people word this issue in different ways, it maybe a little challenging finding all of them. ("completed/unneeded" notes is not how I would have worded it for searching purposes, for example).
