  1. I guess Note History has its limits. Backupery seems like a better investment.
  2. Some of us like to use the free macro program AutoHotkey for such tasks, it can handle that easily.
  3. I would have thought someone like you would be most familiar with the technical reasons for the usual File/exit advice vs rebooting. I vaguely recall a dcon discussion a while ago, it would be tricky to locate. The most recent example I can recall is: rebooting does not preserve the last used note list sort, but File/exit does. I believe there are others. Yes, File/Exit is equivalent to reboot for most issues involving a misbehaved program, but my understanding is that File/Exit does something more in Evernote.
  4. Are you saying the usual File/exit advice to deal with issues that do not go away by rebooting is irrelevant?Just wondering.
  5. Rebooting does not flush the program in exactly the same way menu File/Exit does.
  6. Assuming your first device was Windows, your notes are located in C:\Users\username\Evernote\Databases\, in a file with the extension .exb. Backup that file to a safe place first, then either copy it to the same directory in your new device (if a Windows machine), or try reinstalling Evernote in your original device. If one of your new devices is neither Windows nor Mac, then going back to Windows is probably the only way to get back your notes, at least for free. If nothing else works, at least some of your notes should still be saved in your note history, which is only visible to Premium subscribers. If you succeed in getting your notes back, pay close attention to the "Sync" field in the note list, it should be clear after a sync. A dot means a note is not synced. Also, check https://www.evernote.com/Devices.action for all your devices currently registered, you may need to remove some.
  7. To prevent URL info being added to an existing note, just add spaces in the URL field, it will remain empty after that. For new notes, you could save an empty note with spaces in the URL to use as a template with the duplicate note feature. This doesn't work with the save as a template feature, nor with an ENEX export file, for some reason.
  8. I found a way around the problem, though it is probably more complicated than what most people would want to be bothered with. Tags & notebooks have their own saved sort at least.
  9. If it started suddenly for no apparent reason and it affects all links, sometimes exiting the program via menu File-Exit helps with weird behaviors. If it doesn't, other things can be tried.
  10. Set it up the way you want to see it, then close the program via the menu File/Exit. It should be fixed when you run EN again.
  11. Is this behavior a bug or deliberate? I run a search, then click on a note that has links. I click on a link, the note flickers and stays put instead of going to the note in the link, if that note doesn't match the current search. I seem to recall that the normal behavior is supposed to be than when following a link outside the current search, that search is cancelled, all notes are displayed in the note list, and the link is followed normally. This is what I understood as expected behavior.
  12. I seem to recall Ctrl + Scroll zooming used to work with regular notes, though I rarely use it. While testing an issue discussed below, I found that not only pdf zooming is poor, but if I switch notes while the zooming is messed up, the same zoom level remains with other notes, using Ctrl + Scroll zooming does nothing to fix the issue, I had to go back to the pdf to restore the normal zoom level. I disabled some background hotkey programs to be sure it was not an issue caused by interaction with other programs:
  13. I guess I never thought of the behavior you describe as a bug, more like a typo, so I just glance at my tag list for any stray not inside a stack. But if fixing this bug will stop stray tags, all the better.
  14. While playing around with this I ran into a small glitch: How to indicate sort order. More of a problem for Reminders, todos, & complex searches, ok for simpler things.
  15. Thanks for the idea. It's a bit slower than I expected for a script engine, but this could potentially negate the need for ToC notes. The main challenge is probably not to lose track of the location of the shortcuts (I tend to reorganize folders once in a while, sometimes losing track of some of the affected links). Will play around to see if this can replace my current system (mostly the need to update ToCs).
  16. From help.evernote.com: "To get more features than Basic provides, upgrade to Premium. Note: Current Plus subscribers will maintain their subscription as long as their subscription remains active." I believe that means Plus is intended to disappear, so I am not in any hurry to upgrade.
  17. You mean working on a note in the Inbox while showing 'all notes', or being in a Inbox view? If the latter, that sounds similar to what I mentioned before (with an Inbox saved sort). Since I drastically reduced the number of notebooks, I don't spend as much time in notebook view anymore.
  18. Thanks for confirming I am not insane. I used to saved multiple sorts for saved searches, tags & notebooks, stopped doing it because of this problem, I managed to reduced it by keeping one sort on everything, but it was not eliminated. entirely. The method I mentioned above which I started using recently gives me a sense of sanity, even if imaginary. I may start using multiple sorts again to see if I can control it better now.
  19. Funny, I just got it to work in the context of a non saved search. Weird the way EN works sometimes.
  20. Maybe gremlins, I don't know anymore. What you mention actually worked just now, but I have literally spent the last year dealing with being stuck in tag sort or created sort, no matter how much File/Exit I did to preserve my Updated sort, until I tried what I mentioned above, literally this week. I had manually forced one view type on literally everything, even when I needed to save another, because of this issue, it would last for a little while, then revert again. I don't think version 6.21 beta 1 should make any difference. Maybe we need Windows support to explain why is the sort order lost so easily. Personally I suspect a data issue in some cases at least.
  21. Well, that ought to work, but in my experience doing it in "all notes" won't work. EN will only remember the last saved sort in current use (in tag, notebook or saved search) right before File/Exit. See also the following discussion:
  22. I received the offer via email, so I don't think it is only for new accounts. Haven't tried to see if it will reject me, but I have noticed I have not been able to submit support tickets for quite a while (I get instantly signed out). While I could really use a few Premium features (note history, switching between accounts), I am generally content with my Plus account.
  23. Just curious about this phrase I keep seeing, Evernote "notebook kingdom". Seems an odd way to refer to the notebook list. I did a forum search and a google search, it seems to be used exclusively during beta discussions (Windows & Mac specifically). Even the help pages don't seem to use it. Which means this might be the first topic outside the beta discussions using it.
