  1. Wonderful thread... Evernote Tasks is indeed, at best 80%, done.

    - Tags.  I would love to be able to tag my tasks.  That way I could associate a tag with a project or a type of action or the place I am at.  It would be so handy.

And second I would like saved Task Searches

And for it to also show the Notebook its in in the 'My Tasks'  view and not just the other three (I find that really odd... need to ask if its a bug)

(and of course, I wish Tasks pane worked at all on my pre-release version of Windows 11 - lets see how that works how when the public release comes out....)

if you can find another app that works in that environment I'd go for it.

Nah, I am a 14 year Evernote veteran....

I would rather quite getting the previews, but MS locks you in pretty much... I think I will figure out how to get the normal releases again...

Still, I hope what ever is causing this is fixed before its released or Evernote might have yet again another problem...

  3. I have repeated a clean install on my Windows PC, including using the option to deep clean the data so no remnants of anything are still around.  I installed the latest version of Evernote as the first app on the system, and alas, still have the problem.  The install was also an updated Windows version, which I had hoped would help solve the problem.

All I get from Evernote after 10+ days is they are working on it, which I suspect means it's on a list of harder things to figure out and it's only one client kind of priority.  Alas, this makes Evernote useless for my work (this is a problem on my work PC).

  4. I am using a Dutch keyboard and the English language on a Windows 11 system (freshly installed)

When I try to set Evernote shortcut key combinations, Evernote either recognized the symbol key wrong or does not seem to recognize the Ctrl-Alt key combination.

For example, the shortcut for Keyboard Short Cuts becomes Ctrl-[ when I enter Ctrl-/   (but the ´/´ works as expected when typing in a note)

And (because the standard shortcut for going to Home - Alt+Ctrl-1 - did not work) when I enter Alt+Ctrl-1 to set the keyboard shortcut, all I get is the value ´1´ to show.

I have tested my keyboard using a keyboard tracker and using the Ctrl-Alt-1 through 6 keys on Windows Explorer (these change the view) all with no problem

So it seems Evernote is doing something strange between my keyboard and some of its functionality.

Still, I would be willing to try out anything to fix it.  I will, shortly, send a request to support so they can add it to their long list of things to help with...

  5. @Mike P  Yeah, I was just trying out your AHK script for copying and pasting search text into the normal search box, and discovered that something is messed up between my Windows system and Evernote, and the script does not work (I get lots of quotes, and then part of what I last copied on windows in the evernote serach box...

It seems some of the keys are mapped wrong (I do have the right language and keyboard set in Windows) and the Ctrl-Alt combo does not work, or something...

Did you hang on to anything of your previous Evernote install when dealing with Windows?  Would a fresh install on this new system help?

Nope, I clean the hard disk and reinstalled Windows. There is no way any remnants remained of anything.

Evernote Windows is pretty much useless for me right now... or at least very inefficient since I used the Tasks tabs with filters to collect a list of tasks for what I am focusing on at any one moment... now I pretty much have to browse my notebooks and files and scan the documents that might contain tasks...

I can only hope that the support staff is really working on it and not only sending repeatedly when I sent them updates, that they have escalated, but are busy so......

  7. I found the install .exe failed to start once, and would always take over a minute to show the first dialog box (I was running it via Revo, but that has never caused this kind of problem with other apps)

It looks like the need to double-click/enter to have a search or show a tag file list is fixed.

Alas, the upgrade did not fix my ´spinning circle´ for all tabs in the Tasks view.  I have a ticket in about this, so will hope for a solution sooner than later.

  8. Update: I have done a complete Windows reinstall (this is my 2ndary PC, so it is less of an issue to start over again), and alas, the problem remains.

I have to assume it is an incompatibility with the pre-release of Windows 11 I am using: Build 25921 (since my data still all shows on my other Windows 11 PC, which as a slightly older version)

I would love to hear if someone else has this version and if the Tasks view (and widget) work or not?

  9. @gazumped Yeah, I have used Revo, and also did a update of Windows 11 Home to fix any missing OS files... This is all on a PC at home.  But I get Windows 11 previews, and it may have started after the preview update.  My other windows PC has an earlier version, and Evernote works fine there...

I have updated the support team and sent a log...(they have replied twice now, saying its been escalated..

    to be continued...

Thread drift: But isn't it also MBA 101 to (1) acquire a company, (2) raise prices, (3) fire lots of existing staff to cut costs? Or does it just look that way to those of us outside the business world?

Almost. You forgot for your part - 'alienate the existing community base'

Also, I think yours is MBA 102. This is maybe MBA 101:

    1. Build a great product with an avid user base,  take investor money and be forced to carelessly add features to get public attention and create virtual value, discover you can not maintain the code,  try to fix the code, lose the user base due to lost functionality, sell the remains to another company and buy another mansion in the Hamptons...

  11. I am not sure this is allowed, and I am not trying to be self-serving, but here is a thread with a lot of calm, interesting, replies to this general question - including if they are moving, why/why not, the effort they had or are willing to have to migrate, etc.

In summary, about as many will stay as leave, but almost all are frustrated by the recent bugs (and not the price increase!), and many who will stay are downgrading to free, and/or studying replacements (lots of these mentioned), and will decide whether to move or not when their renewal comes.

I think Evernote should read this too....

l resume other important but not critical activities, such as communication

@Federico SimionatoAh, there is nothing more important than communication with your customers... period, point blank,

Especially for a product that people and businesses really on day-to-day, and have trusted their most important information to

Its the only way to build and maintain trust, and not lose more business, or even gain business, through happy users who recommend your product... I am sure no one is recommending Evernote to anyone right now...

This ia all MBA / Marketing 101 stuff...

PS: I will give you credit for joining in on this thread however... it's a start, now keep it up!

  13. I personally could not justify the RoI on migrating... I have tons of value added to my content throught organization, tags, links, folders, etc.. this can never be migrated to another app completely and would require 10s, or 100s of hours to rebuild... so I am 'stuck' right now... but I am carefully watching how things develope for the next year, and then will make a choice... it seems like a perfectly logical business approach (as long as I watch the day to day issues that might force a migration, which I do not expect)

  14. I am an avid Evernote fan, and have strayed to other apps over the years, but always come back...

Still, I am disturbed by the lack of communications from Evernote since the take-over ( I have 11 years Europe wide marketing background).

The last release has clearly introduced a number of serious bugs, which would be OK, if we heard from BS what they were doing to fix the problem... but alas, after more than 2 weeks of very obvious bugs, we have no insight into future improvements.

Normally I would give a provider slack, but given this is a take over, and the new owner has no experience with managing massive amounts of user data, and established functional processes, I am starting to fear the worse...

It could very well be that BS (gosh, in English, this means something else...), who are great app tool developers, have no clue about managing hosted user data, and functionally preferences... and so, will totally mess up things for us long-term users...

I ask for no solution from you all,  but rather for those stil hanging in there, what your limit is before you move on....

  15. As an aside, am I missing something about most implementations of 2FA?  What if I lose my phone?  (I did, and as far as I could figure out, there is no quick way to get to many apps anymore.  Only a few offer a non-mobile device recovery that works quickly.  Otherwise, you have to go through the support desk of each app, website, etc...  Is there a way to consistently avoid that?

Lets wait what the newest update will have at hand...

@bswiss56Indeed, having managed software implementations and releases in the past... I am giving them the benefit of the doubt right now,

But I did hold my breath when I got home yesterday after using the web version of Evernote elsewhere and opened my laptop from stand-by where the same earlier edited documents were all open... but, whew, the updates from the Web synced fine and I had no data loss that I could see on a quick scan...

  17. @AppleGuy  Your preaching to the choir here... I know the feature well, also having dabbled in HTML, plus apps like Notion, OneNote and Obsidian have decent implementation of this feature.

Its one feature that would really help Evernote compete.  Most people do not know how handy this capability is until they realize it exists and try it out

Alas, as @PinkElephant points out, Evernote is in survival mode, and have to get the many serious bugs fixed first before they can expand on core functionality.
