I would like to create a note each day, where I can create my own list of what I want to do that day.  Not everything will be a proper Task, some will be check boxes, some lines will just be text.  Key for me is I can put it in the order I want, and even move things around as my day progresses. 

Thus, I am looking for a way to choose and display proper Tasks, which are kept in another note, in this daily note.

Is anything like this possible?

Failing that, how do others create a simple, flexible single view of what they really should be doing 'Today', with a place to also make notes, etc.   Right now, the Homepage is too chaotic (not easy on my eyes - or mind) to give me the feeling of focus that I need.

The best solution I found what to use Ctrl-Alt-5, which opens the Tag search box, and there you can ' type ahead search '  on part of a tag, even if in the middle.  You cannot, of course, combine that with other search criteria.

This is a workable solution for me for now.

You are right!  I was focused on the list of 'suggested'  files, etc that comes up as you type... which will show results that use the middle of words...

I wonder why that is possible, but then when you say ' search '  that that list is not included in the results... odd...

The list that opens shows all tags holding this string, no matter where.

No idea why the mobile client does it differently, but it helps.

Wow, that is interesting!  Thanks!  Its means there is hope it could work cross platform some day!

Actually it would better practice to break your TAGS down three separate items. Still use your normal label in the text but have a set oRegion tags, another set of Product Number tags and also a set of Tags for Design Types.

As for the Emoji issue, put the Emoji at the end of the tag and, perhaps add a space.

Thanks, yes, all that is possible, but its more typing and structuring and tags... all which could be avoided if they would enable searching for any part of a tag.  I do not know what database model they use,  but I hope its one where this could be made possible 🙂

I am not sure you understand what I meant:  Rather than searching using "Tag:.(emoji)xxxyyyzzz",   I can do a general search on just "yyy"  and notes that use the tag "(emoji)xxxyyyzzz"  (and no part of the tag is in the general text of the note), will show up in the results.  This means that Evernote can search for text in the middle of at tag... they have just not enabled it when using the 'Tag:'  modifier

The first letters are the region, the middle numbers are the product number, and the last two are the basic design types.  I need to search on only the product number.  I would rather not break down these codes, because that is not how they are used in my other systems.

The odd thing is, if I just ignore searching specifically on a tag, and just search for a word in the middle, search also finds notes with the tags I would want... but I can not use that to make efficient saved searches.

I would like to find notes with tags that contain a certain set of characters but do not necessary start with these characters (or necessarily end with these characters). 

Is this possible?  Right now I can only find a way to search for tags starting with a set of characters.

Windows: If you have a simple list, line by line, you can copy it and paste it into Excel.  Just select a single cell in Excel and then paste.  Each line of the list will be in its own row-cell.

You can then immediately copy the cells, and, indeed, paste them into Evernote and you will get a table automatically.

Thanks @gazumped.  Indeed, it's a personal choice. 

I have tried both (in-document links in OneNote and ToC for notes in Evernote) and because I am maybe more chaotic in my thoughts and moments of data collection, and not disciplined enough to schedule a time to bring all the random notes together into a single structure,  I can not use your method well (even though I keep trying 😉  In my ideal world, I would use both.

I am not worried about data loss in EverNote since it has Note History and Trash.

so... I think it would serve a wider audience (and EverNote could serve a wider audience) if EverNote embraced my suggestion

Humm, I would still like to see the ability to link inside an individual note.  Creating many notes, with a master ToC note, is too much extra work to be really user-friendly.  OneNote.  It would help compete with OneNote, which does support this.

PS, here is the feature request for this, if you want to support the idea. 

It would be very efficient and useful if it was possible to link to a specific location within an individual note, as opposed to linking only to just the (top of) a note from another note.

For example, I have a long note of nicely formatted notes about HTML and CSS coding, and it would make the note much more useful if I could refer from one location in the note, to another.  Naturally, it would also be great to be able to link from add different note to an exact location inside a note.

I will add that this is possible in OneNote, and thus would help compete with this product (I currently use both, in part to have access to this capability, which makes my content much more useful, eg, it is a better 'knowledge management  application.  Evernote is mainly a free-form text collection/archiving tool).

Can anyone help me create a link that launches the firefox app in a private window and then opens a URL?

I can create a windows shortcut that does this, but if I use it as a link inside Evernote, it does not open in a private window.  It seems its ignoring the command line option.

Here is the shortcut:  C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -private-window google.com

I to would love to see this work this way...  it was the reason I came to the forum today..(even if PinkElephant thinks the forum has no other purpose than to see how many posts he/she can tally up)

While not a big thing, it is good user experience to avoid having to make extra clicks to do something... of course that assumes people want to give their notes a title first, and then start writing.  I am old-school, and that seems normal, but maybe those more in-tune with the times feel that a title is an after-thought...

...and I have suggested via feedback more than once...

I am surprised this (link to a specific location in a document)  does not get more attention, especially for an information management tool, where this funtion would be a requirement...

I know Evernote is focused on business users, but this also is useful for that audience - how often do not workers want to link a colleague through to a very specific piece of information?

It would also help compete with MS OneNote which can do this...

I am surprised this does not exist, at least as someone who organizes by hierarchies in part, meaning I have over a hundred folders in 12 stacks, and quickly getting to one is a pain when I have to scroll up and down and watch if some stacks are open or not, etc.

I have other software that lets you collapses all, expand all, collapse current, expand current shortcuts... which is quite handy, even only when you have two levels.

I will add it to the long list of suggestions for Evernote to ignore... 😉

Is there a keyboard shortcut for expanding and collapsing the folders sidebar view such that you see 'Notebooks' with just a list of the next level of folders?

I know there is the carrot on each folder, but first, its a mouse action, plus if I use this on 'Notebooks' it works more as 'hide'  since it not only hides all the notebooks, but does not actually collapse them - if I click on it again, I see the same arrangement of some expanded and some closed notebooks.

Its doing better after a 2nd cup of coffee, but still lags...

I opened Evernot on my iPad today, and its sooooooo slow... I really can not wait 3 minutes before starting to type in new notes... whats going on?  I restarted my iPad just before this happened... so gave it a while to have its first cup of coffee, but it did not go away... maybe its th 4% power level on my iPad so its running in energy saver mode, or???

Indeed, I had forgot to mention that I use Evernote on 2 different PC´s an android device (rarely) and an IPad...)  

If this is the problem, then I think it needs to be thought about.  I only move things on my PCs (yesterday I manually made them the same), and I would think that would either be restricted to the individual devices, or synced to the mobile devices when I used them later...

I have a a few times now, that my customized layout of my Homepage is lost, and my widgets are laid out in a totally different order, etc.

Any idea what might be causing this?  Its very annoying and a waste of my time....

I want the tasks in the widget to be listed in the same order as I have them in the Tasks sidebar/slide-out (eg the notes are alphabetic). 

I do this because I have a Note for tasks that I prioritized for getting done today and have started it with a '*' so it sorts to the top.  

I saw the widget has its own mind, and sort them its own way (which I read was designed in as it trys to decide for me what is important, eg tasks with due dates are first, etc).  I think the user should be in control and be able to choose their own sort order, which most easily (at first) would be to take the order they are found in the Tasks slide-out.
