Really?? How does the next level support continue tracking?

Does Scannable exist for Android? It’s an Evernote product and exists for iOS. It allows you to scan into either jpg or pdf directly into Evernote. It seems strange to me that they have kept this as a separate app and not just included the functionality into Evernote.

Evernote went to a subscription model, I think, when it first became cloud based, years ago. I don't like subscription models either but Evernote does not have a total maximum storage limit. Instead it allows a maximum upload each month, therefore the total storage limit is constantly increasing. In this case, a subscription model made sense to me.

I can confirm this problem still exists on 10.58.3, but it is not hanging for me, just taking a very long time to save. About 1 minute each time I tried it.

I completely agree that 15GB free is likely inadequate for most systems now, but it is still surprising to me that Evernote is the app to raise the warning.

Well, Evernote isn’t alone here. It is just the state of advancing hardware and software technology, though it is surprising that a note app is pushing the envelope. I don’t think fixing is the right word, maybe improving is better. I’ve never bought a new phone (or a PC or Mac now that I think about it) because the old one was broken. At some point it just starts to feel sluggish overall and I feel that it’s time for an upgrade. Evernote did push me to upgrade once but that was back in the V3? days. Performance was horrendous. Far worse than anything I’ve experienced in recent years. I decided to replace my HDD with a solid state drive, my first SSD. It fixed Evernote and everything else. I didn’t want to upgrade but it was certainly worthwhile. Improving camera technology recently encouraged me to upgrade my Mac. That improved my photo and video editing experience, and overall computing experience as well. Consider Evernote‘s early warning helpful in this case. It you are able to increase your system storage, you will likely see some improvement overall.

This counter argument gets brought up often but six years ago I, at least, thought the new price was too high for what it delivered then. The fact that it hasn’t increased in several years has made the value proposition better for me over time and with the current state of V10 the (old) pricing now seems about right. Six years ago they were struggling to keep the clients patched and early V10 was a large step back so annual increases could not be realistically justified. With the rocky rollout of RTE and the very underwhelming AI note cleanup I think the new owners have jumped the gun in rolling out a price increase. I do wonder what the cost could be if we were not supporting the freemium model. The two things that bothered me most about Evernote was their poor communication and head scratching pricing. I’m disappointed to see that Bending Spoons is following down the same path in both areas.

I was fortunate to have very few note conflicts. I also had no data loss with the old sync. With RTE, I’ve had numerous home page scratch pad conflicts, problems with recurring tasks and some data loss. I’m not knocking RTE. I believe it is the way forward, but they have numerous problems to work through that seen more severe than just load balancing.

Yes, with many things being subscription based it is forcing us to take a hard look at the tools and services we use. I’ve dropped Office 365 (Mac user), Todoist and a few others. I’m still hanging on to Evernote but will likely drop down to Personal when I next renew.

I would agree if I could backup from the local database. I haven’t tried to figure out a way and I haven’t seen anyone post a method either. I view the local database only as a large cache to help improve speed and store notes while waiting on sync. I use the GitHub code for backup but it is only a partial solution since it does not support any of the new elements such as tasks or backlinks. I suspect that Backupery is in the same boat since the API hasn’t been updated. I would also be curious to know if anyone has successfully restored Evernote from TimeMachine. I haven’t seen a proven 100% backup solution yet. I assume manually exporting each notebook from within Evernote works with the new elements but I haven’t tried it. I’m looking for a more automated method.

I dropped Todoist when tasks came out. It was basic but ok for my personal needs, and then got better when recurring tasks were added. There are some problems lately that I think are due to the RTE introduction. I’ve seen some recent improvements and hope the remaining problems get worked out soon.

Anyone who has a paid subscription pays for the free users. This has always bugged me, but not enough to jump ship. I don’t know who is paying $18 USD, but it is not those in the US. I think I paid around $70 last year for personal and then $90ish when I went to professional. I don’t renew until later this year but I expect I’ll need a stiff drink before I see the new price. I hope OneNote does work for you. I tried it and didn’t like it but others here have and seem happy with it.

Well, I don’t know if it is wrong. It is their company and they can do what they want, but I do find it a curious business decision. V10 probably was underpriced but it would have been difficult to justify an increase while they they were working to get it close to feature parity with Legacy. Raising it some more does make sense to me, but the increase is extreme. Instead of overly squeezing those already paying, I think they would have been better off going after the free tier and get some nominal fee for that. Time will tell if they have made the correct decision.

We must have different definitions of “completely unusable.” V10, for the most part, is working fine for me.

I have no need for RTE either, but I’ve had sync issues in the past and this should be much better once they work through the problems. This was in development and beta while in EN’s hands. I’m not sure if BS pushed this out too soon or if it really needed to be rolled out enmasse before the problems could be seen. How quick they get this under control will be telling.

It is likely related to RTE (real time editing … new sync) that was rolled out right before AI cleanup. Nothing happens with AI cleanup unless you click the button. I’ve had some data loss as well. Evernote needs to get this fixed quickly. They are actively working it, so update your clients when a new one is rolled out.

I’m all for rapid fixes but please ensure the QA team has adequate time to test the new versions before they are released into the wild. At times it seems like we are taking one step forward but two steps back. Updates that cause data loss should never see the light of day.

This is what was in the Mac release notes - interpret it however you see fit... "We are focused on strengthening the foundations of Evernote across all platforms. This release contains important parts of the puzzle as we prepare to roll out the AI Note Cleanup feature. We hope you are as excited as we are about this powerful new feature."
