  1. Wow! I got a VERY quick response from CloudHq Support. Here is their answer: This looks very promising, assuming that the export formats work well.
  2. CloudHq looks like it might be a very clever, easy way to export Evernote Notes. However, I have NOT used it, so I'm not sure. By setting up a CloudHq sync between Evernote and Dropbox, and having DropBox installed on your Mac/PC, then you easily get an export of EN to your local drive. The question I have is what format is used for the CloudHq sync? HTML, Word, RTF, other? I have sent CloudHq support asking them this very question. I'll report back here when I get a response. There is one con, CloudHq requires a monthly fee after a 15-day free trial.
  3. I highly recommend turning OFF all auto-updates, for the very reasons we have seen with Evernote 6.0 and 6.0.1 -- all too often the new release contains significant bugs. Better to wait a week or more to see if other users are posting material bugs that would affect your workflow. This is not just an Evernote issue -- it applies to all software developers, including (especially) Apple. Just look at the many issues with the iOS Ver 8 updates. So, I have turned OFF auto-update both within the Evernote app (Evernote > Preferences) and in the Mac App Store.
  4. NS, I'm running EN Mac 5.5.2 right now on two Mac without any sync issues. But I have NOT tried to upgrade to a higher version.
  5. Hi NS. If the version that you reinstalled is not working properly, this is most likely because there are still some left-over files from the previous version. As you noted above a full uninstaller tool like AppCleaner, or AppDelete (which is what I use) should do the job. However, I have learned that some of these uninstallers, like AppZapper, do NOT search/remove files inside of hidden directories. I don't know about AppCleaner, but AppDelete states that it *does* search hidden directories.
  6. I agree that using a app uninstaller can help ensure all Evernote related files are removed. I include that in my instructions in Step #3. Backup and completely uninstall EN Mac App and data. But it is very important to FIRST backup your Evernote folder, and export to ENEX any Local NBs that you may have.
  7. Thanks for the suggestion and reference. I have added this to my list of references in my original post. Would you mind sharing what specific things you found helpful in the MacRumors guide, that was not included in my instructions? Thanks.
  8. The problem is not with the Notes that you know you have just accidentally deleted, but with those that get deleted and you don't discover it for months, maybe even years. Some notes may be irreplaceable. Evernote does have lots of problems it needs to address, but, IMO, data integrity should be at the top of the list. Compared with all of the other changes that have significant technical challenges, adding a confirmation is surely less difficult.
  9. I've see posts by a number of users who were able to successfully downgrade. Here's one: https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/76682-601-color-theme-on-mac/?p=326483
  10. If Ver 5.7.2 is complaining about a newer version, then I suspect that means that you were unable to completely remove all of Ver 6. Did you use AppDelete (or similar) uninstaller to find/delete all Evernote associated files? Did you restart your Mac after the removal and before the reinstall?
  11. How to Completely Remove and Reinstall EN Mac Rev 7.2.1: 2018-04-09 16:59 GMT-0500 This question seems to come up a lot recently, and since I could not find a good, official document on it, I put together this set of instructions about a month ago. I thought I'd publish it here where it is easy for all to see and reference. If you find any errors, omissions, or have any concerns about this process, please post below. If urgent, feel free to PM me. Procedure for Full Removal/Reinstall Do a full sync, UNLESS you do not want the EN Cloud Notes to update your local Mac version. Export to ENEX files* any Local NBs and unsync’d Notes that you may have Backup (Optional) and Completely Uninstall EN Mac App and data (click this link to see details) Download the version of EN Mac you want to install Re-download even if you previously have downloaded it For the latest version, from the Evernote.com web site Ver 6.11.1 Build 455059 (recommended) Ver 6.9.2 Build 454158 (download from FileHippo.com; you may need to refresh the page several times) Install the EN Mac version you downloaded Allow it to sync (download in this case) all of your Notes from the EN Cloud. Import the ENEX files, if any, (from Step #2) into this new install * When you export Notes to ENEX, it will break all links to these notes, and the following metadata is lost: Notebook, Stack, Tag hierarchy. ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Switch to Direct Download Version (Revised Fri, Dec 12, 2014) IF you just want to switch from the Mac App Store version to the Direct Download version, in most cases it is just a simple as downloading/installing the Direct Download version, and the Evernote installer will do the switch/conversion for you. If you are having problems with the AppStore version, this is highly recommended. 12. This has already been answered above -- it can't be done with current Evernote Search syntax. Can't combine "AND" with "OR". Exactly why full boolean search is needed.
  13. Good work Frank! I'm not sure if I was clear, but my suggestion was for flebber. But I'm glad you found something potentially useful. Carry on.
  14. You may want to do a google on "evernote mind map".
  15. IMO, ToDo's, or task management, fit right in with the new Evernote vision of making Evernote the workspace you stay in all day. To manage our work, our day, to get things done, we all need some type of task management to identify, prioritize, and remind us of the work remaining to be done. If you want me to stay in Evernote all day, then you need to provide me with some serious task management tools, including Due Date. Reminders are nice, but don't even come close to real task management.
  16. Wow! Thanks GM for bringing the privacy issues of IntelliNote to our attention. I had no idea... It seems incredibly hard today for normal users to find an online source that is trustworthy. It is truly a buyer's beware environment.
  17. Wow! This thread is now up to 11 pages!!! Undoubtedly lots of interest. I'd like to add IntelliNote to the Evernote alternative list. It is focused on teams, but I think it could work with individuals with lots of interests, families, and home-based businesses as well. It is FREE for up to 5 users. Basically, it provides the note-taking feature of Evernote, and adds to that tasks (with real Due Dates), Discussions, Projects, and Workspaces. They provide a rich web-based app (no Win or Mac desktop apps), as well as mobile apps. The most significant downside I see is that the Free version is limited to 2GB total (no upload allowance), and the paid version ($10/mo) is limited to 5GB total. So this is NOT a system that you would want to store a lot of large documents. I can imagine a combination of IntelliNote and Dropbox might work very well. Have any of you used IntelliNote? If so, please share your experience. Here's a summary from a 3rd party:
  18. Here are few good reasons: You have to be a Premium account owner for Evernote to include Excel files in searches Although EN Mac will display an Excel file inline, it is not very good and other platforms don't support it. If you have limited (as in single Excel workbook, << 100 rows) of reference info, it is much more convenient to view and search if you just paste the data into Evernote.
  19. In EN Mac, I have found that copy/paste directly from Excel does NOT work so well. However, what does work well is to copy the cells of interest from Excel, Paste into Word, then select/copy the table from Word and paste into an Evernote Note. This gives you the opportunity to make any formatting adjustments in Word, if it is necessary.
  20. Here it is: Jack, you guys need to figure out some other way of protecting against this. A lot of us use file links because Evernote Cloud is not secure enough for sensitive documents. Another use case is linking to very large files that you don't want to sync.
  21. I'm not so sure. Corporate owners/users are probably more concerned about security than individuals, not just from hackers and the government, but also from crusaders and competitors.
  22. Good point FineArt. While we may not ever be able to truly understand why Evernote makes certain decision, a lot can be gleamed from their public statements and interviews. If the "why" means that Evernote is moving away from its core service, and no longer sees a need to support and/or improve on it, then we may need to look for other options.
  23. @rachee46: Thanks. That's a nice tip. But Evernote still needs to fix basic copy/paste. This is one of the most basic features on a computer. If they can produce proper HTML/RTF using the "Share" method, they should be able to produce the same via a COPY command.
