  1. I suspect that Avast defines certain files as sensitive and then alerts you when they are being accessed in some way. It was strange because I've been using both Avast and Evernote for 10 years or more and have never seen that. It's possible that the newest iteration of EN (or Avast) somehow interact in a strange way.
  2. Today I selected the option to download the latest version of EN windows desktop but received a message from Avast that EN was trying to "change or delete the file BY Bank of America .pdf in your protected Documents folder. What would you like to do BLOCK APP or ALLOW APP". I've never seen this before and I've updated EN many times over the years. Why would it by trying to change or delete one of my pdf files? And what is the "protected DOCUMENTS folder"? I chose to block the app from doing this and allowed EN to update and open. When it opened it looked more or less normal. I looked at the pdf file it was trying to change and that looked normal as well. Kind of disconcerting since out of 8000 files this happened with a file that contains banking statements.
  3. agsteele you are a genius!! This solution worked perfectly. All the data has been restored. Prior to this I had succeeded in using a third party program to "Repair pdf" but that simply resulted in a properly functioning pdf file with the entire year's worth of data still not there. Your solution has solved the problem. Thank goodness for the "history" that is saved. One more great reason why people should pay for this service and not gripe about it. The pittance that I paid for my subscription has just saved me dozens of hours of data reconstruction in a crucial file. However, just out of interest I will also make sure I understand the process of using stored enex files to reconstitute data.
  4. Related question: Last month I did an export of the enex file from the notebook in which the corrupted file is in. I sent it to Gdrive. It's possible that the information I'm looking for is still uncorrupted in that file. How do I take that enex file and reconstitute it in a separate notebook so that I can look for that pdf file? Wasn't that the point of carefully creating enex backups and storing them offline? Would love to learn if this foresight helps save the day.
  5. Maybe this is a fluke but I'm bringing it up because I've never seen it before. My workflow involves taking pdf's in EN notes and adding to them on a continuous basis. For example, I may have a pdf on credit card expenses for 2022 and every month using Adobe Acrobat I splice onto it the statement for that month. Some of these pdfs have 10 years of information through this gradual addition process. This has worked flawlessly for me for over 10 years. Recently I switched entirely to v10 and I have just noticed something I've never seen before. A large pdf containing many years worth of data has just become corrupted. The entire data from 2023 has been lost (or is showing up simply as page numbers with no pages). I can't save the file to another location which means I can't really work with it to try to figure out how to recover the data ("Document could not be saved. There was a problem reading this document.") I can open the file, read the first 411 pages and nothing after that. Through Legacy I have dealt with thousands of files over the last 10-12 years and have never seen this. What is concerning to me is whether or not this could occur with other pdf files or if this is somehow related to the fact that I upgraded to v10 and to win10 (from Legacy and win7). I have tried to open the file on other machines and same story. So far, this is the only pdf file that I have seen this with but my entire work flow could be impacted if I see more instances of this. I may need to be creating 400 separate notes, each one containing a pdf, rather than risking years of data on pdfs that get corrupted. Again, not sure if this is a one time hit or if I need to start offloading all of these pdfs into online storage. Not even sure how to do this since these pdfs change constantly as I add to them.
  6. Actually, I've greatly enjoyed all of the unsupported software that I've used. I used win7 until not too long ago and still dearly miss it. I used Acrobat X which is desktop version that I literally installed on about 10 computers and used unsupported for the past 12 years for a negligible cost. Same for Quickbooks 2010 and ActiveWords. I still use a payroll program that I installed 7 years ago. All fantastic programs that never needed to be updated and still work great even without support. Many of these programs are now on an annual subscription basis and are far more annoying (and hugely expensive) than the older versions. I kept Legacy on every one of desktops and even unsupported I like it because it does one crucial task for me that v10 does not (I won't beat that dead horse in this thread). Nonetheless, I accept the fact that there is a lot to be said for not using deprecated software especially if it's the kind that needs online access.
  7. This problem persisted for 15 mins until I gave up. Really stopped my work flow
  8. So I just tried it both ways and it worked fine in both cases. However, earlier today I was using the delete key and got spinning circles in every case. I will monitor this and see if doing the 3 dot menu works better. If that's the case then I will simply switch over to that as the preferred technique.
  9. Am noticing that on many occasions when I try to delete a note I get an endless green spinning circle. My understanding is that the most recent version was supposed to eliminate this issue. Actually, happens on every note that I am trying to delete. Just reproduced it about 5X in a row.
  10. Just to clarify: a few minutes before I ran into this problem I was able to copy and paste without any problems into the exact same note (see examples). It worked perfectly for the first few items (191 and 117) and then began failing for the next few. Any ideas on why this happens? It's not the first time.
  11. For some mystifying reason I am finding it very glitchy when I want to copy and paste an item OR take a screenshot into ENv10 windows. Here is what I want to copy: When I try to copy and paste it into EN it comes out like this: If I double click on the png then I see the image, but not before. The same thing happens when I want to take a screenshot and put it into my EN note. The exact same screenshot that you see above does not look the same when I try pasting it into the note. I tried to do it again and it came out like this: With the blue bar endlessly going back and forth. Why would I be able to copy and paste into other places but not into an Evernote note? This applies both to straightforward copy/paste of text as well as of screenshots. As of now, I can't get these images into my note no matter what I do.
  12. I use it as the central repository of all my contacts, both personal and business. It is also the central depository of every single scanned document in both my personal and business life (bills, statements, invoices, manuals, medical records, taxes, 401K, insurance policies etc). I use it for screenshots and clippings a dozen times daily. My entire travel itineraries, planned trips and travel research are all on EN. In fact research of every kind and on any topic is stored exclusively on EN. I have notebooks for dozens of projects in real estate, investments, trust planning, equipment purchases, academics and many other issues. In my business I use it for daily logs, storing documents, spreadsheets, documents, employee communications, keeping track of resumes, work schedules, payrolls and many, many other business related uses. All of my credit card expenditures is there. I use it for all my Tasks and reminders. I track about 2000 faxes a month through direct imports into EN. And all of this is collected into notebooks, meticulously tagged and available on multiple desktops, iphones and ipads. How much is that worth?
  13. This can work OK in most cases. It does not work in my use case in which I have faxes that are sent to me through a service called Hellofax. These faxes all go into a notebook (Hellofax) and they each contain one pdf (the fax itself). We receive thousands of these each month. I can export the entire notebook as you mentioned and it will then appear in whatever directory I choose. Such as this: When I open up the first folder I see this: There are pdf files buried in each one of these packages which I can open one by one (not all at the same time) with Acrobat. I However, this is not helpful for my use case. I need to see all of my pdf files openly and not buried in this structure. I have tried figuring out work arounds and there have been several threads on this. Legacy did not have this problem. The interesting thing is that if I take other notebooks in which I have physically put in pdf files (rather than having them sent to my EN by third parties) then the whole thing works as intended ie: I can export the entire notebook and the pdfs show up as they should. Look at the following example in which I have physically placed a pdf file in the "Hellofax" notebook. It shows up normally but all of the other received files don't.
  14. I have the same issue. My workflow involves exporting huge amounts of attachments that live in as many notes. It is not unusual for us to export 3000 notes from a notebook which contain 3000 pdfs. We do this on a monthly basis . It used to take about 30 seconds with Legacy. It is simply not possible to do this the same way with v10. I believe this is a problem that the majority of users do NOT encounter and therefore this may not be an imperative for EN. However, this is the reason why I have kept Legacy available.
  15. Tuulikki. Pink Elephant spends an enormous amount of time on this forum providing help and solutions to thousands of EN users. Sometimes he appears impatient as he encounters questions that he has repeatedly addressed dozens of times (even though it may have been the first time for you). He is an invaluable resource on this forum. If you do a search of your issue you will probably find many previous posts on that exact topic, and many of those posts will be from Pink Elephant.
  16. I think legacy still works on win 10. I hope it continues to do so for a while even though I mostly use v10. There’s only one or two things right now that legacy does better and I still use it for that reason.
  17. I figured out the problem. It was quite idiotic. For no particular reason I had put little emojis next to my Notebooks ( I think I initially did this for visibility). Nonetheless, they have messed up the forwarding strategy ie: forwarding to @Home doesn't work when there is a cat emoji after the Home notebook. Once I removed the emojis it all worked perfectly.
  18. I've posted on this before but have continued to test it out (windows 10 desktop, EN v10) and it does not seem to work. Here are the instructions that EN gives: Send hotel reservations into the Travel Planning notebook and tag with japan: Email Subject: Hotel Reservation @travel planning #japan I have tried this every possible way and can not get it to work. The notes simply get forwarded to my default notebook regardless of using the @ sign. Also, no matter what I put after the # sign, the tags do not show up. They should show up as "Resume DianaLopez" in my "Work" notebook and tagged with "GH". I have tried capitals eg:Work, work and GH gh but that doesn't help. I've also tried spacing the @ and # in different ways but that doesn't work either. Has anyone gotten this feature to work? I forward tons of emails from Gmail to EN and would like to be able to get them into the proper notebook with the correct tags directly from Gmail.
  19. Actually, I stumbled onto something that also works well. Google chat is a messaging service for teams and is built into Gmail. Since we all use Gmail it turns out to be quite convenient. Actually, in some ways it's winding up better eg: when someone sends a google chat message it pops up on my screen, alerts my Apple watch and dings on my iphone. It's now harder for employees to claim that they "didn't see the message".
  20. I can confirm that there is no way to use Evernote 10 on Win 7. I experienced the same issue ie: you can no longer just refuse the upgrade and continue working on the version that always worked on win 7. I had to purchase new win 10 machines because of this and immediately ran into problems with two legacy software programs that I had been using (Quickbooks and Acrobat) on all of them. I was very fond of these older programs because they were not online subscriptions and did everything I needed. Now that I have tried reloading them onto win 10 machines I am getting warning messages about "registration expiring in 10 days" etc. Rather remarkable since I purchased these programs myself 10 years ago. I also had a very old "popup" program on my win 7 machine which allowed all the staff in my office to communicate with each other on a simple popup window which appears in the middle of their screens. I now have to move to a new way of communication. I would have stayed with Evernote Legacy to avoid all of this but I know that this too will be deprecated soon and I can't afford to have no EN whatsoever.
  21. Personally I'm giving up windows 10 because I don't like the blue color, Quickbooks because it takes 7 seconds to open, Gmail because the G is capitalized and Amazon because some items are expensive.
  22. Yes, the source line is: <source>import.folder</source> I guess that explains it. I appreciate your clarifying that.
  23. Yes, but that’s the whole point. I use non-online versions of acrobat, office, quickbooks and that works well. I agree that windows 7 is obviously risky.
  24. I agree that the Legacy discussions are getting boring. However, I have to say that I feel the same way about Adobe Acrobat 10, Quickbooks 12 and Windows 7 ie: I use these outdated disc based programs which I like FAR more than the updated versions. I have the newer online versions of Acrobat and Quickbooks and I use win 10 on several machines; but I prefer the legacy programs. Going forward I realize that there is no sliver of hope that any of these are coming back but I still want them to last as long as possible. I've made my peace with ENv10 and forced myself to accept it over Legacy. Anyone who decides to jettison EN because they are so offended by v10 is simply not being reasonable.
  25. I think I backed it up to a newly created folder on my desktop. It is not connected to the default “Add to Evernote” folder that shunts all files to the Inbox folder. It’s possible that I made an error and if so your explanation makes sense.
