  1. Using windows 10 and ENv10. I am not seeing the URL in either place. Perhaps it’s the way I am doing the clipping. Will experiment a bit more. Thanks.
  2. I don't see it. Here is a test clip of CNN that I used the web clipper to clip. When I go to the 3 dot menu I do not see anything that gives me the url info. Under "Note Info" I see that you have the option of manually entering the URL but I don't see that it comes automatically as it used to.
  3. I can't seem to find the setting or preference for this. It always appeared in Legacy and was a very useful feature. Has it disappeared in v10?
  4. Thanks Mike P. It wasn't a rebuke, just wanted to let you know that it doesn't work the same way for me. I can't explain why I get a series of files that are undecipherable. At least I've figured out a way around it. I spent another hour or two with win 10 trying to see if this had something to do with hidden file extensions or any other explanation but still couldn't find an answer.
  5. Hi bmcl26. Can you explain why you use snagit for EN rather than just the web clipper? I looked through snagit's specs and it seems as if it has various advantages ie: it can catch the parts that are beyond the scroll, it always renders the exact image that you think you will get, annotation is better etc. Is it easy to integrate with EN? I find the web clipper pretty seamless except for the occasional times when it does not render the images properly.
  6. Thanks Mike P, however, what you proposed is not a solution. Here is your original proposal: "There is a hack to allow you to do this. Select all the notes with attachments that you want to download From the blue multi selection popup choose export Select single web page Hit export and then choose location etc If you then go to the location you have exported to you should fine a single html file and a folder containing all the attachments." This is not a "hack", it's the intended procedure and it is exactly the sequence that I follow. The problem is that those attachments do NOT have the correct extensions on them (as per several win 7 and win 10 machines that I tried it with). Therefore they need to be opened individually to discover the pdf files inside. I am assuming, as Pink pointed out, that perhaps other people do NOT have this problem and that when they open that folder of attachments they actually see proper files such as ".txt" or ".pdf". Perhaps I can find a way to tweak my Win10 so that it recognizes what these are and automatically adds the correct extension. In the meanwhile I will need to use my batch hack method of adding file extensions to a whole group of files that do not have it. This solves an important use case for us ie: our industry still receives thousands of pdfs from dozens of companies (faxes, purchase orders etc). Faxes come as pdfs from a virtual fax server. With Legacy we could concatenate thousands of these every few months into one pdf and make it searchable (something we could not do on the fax server). The same issue applied to the pdfs that we receive from dozens of vendors (we concatenate thousands of purchases into single pdf files). Many of the people who work for me don't have EN accounts and wouldn't know how to use it anyway. So I send them the aggregated Acrobat files of the purchases and ask them to track all purchases of item "X" over the last 5 years. Of course, I realize that many of these tasks could be more easily done with 3rd party solutions but I do everything on EN alone. Hence, the panic when important functionalities suddenly disappear.
  7. Yes, I have the web version but I also have win 10 machines running v10 (I use both concurrently for various reasons). Anyway, the problem resolved itself after a few hours. I was a bit concerned because anytime I see anything unusual happening on legacy I always assume it's the writing on the wall. For various reasons, which I've elaborated elsewhere, I still use Legacy for certain tasks and so am keeping a careful eye on it. It's becoming less important to me as I very slowly discover workarounds and hacks to those things that I don't like about v10. For example, a few days ago I posted the solution for how to export large numbers of files from v10 and then to batch aggregate them with Acrobat. A use case which may not interest many but was a severe stumbling block for me with v10 (easy with Legacy). After months of queries to tech support and the assistance of many on this forum I stumbled across the workaround. For these reasons I feel that I will be able to free myself from Legacy very soon.
  8. In a previous post I pointed out that when trying to export notes using single web page html method, I would see that the files within those notes were being copied over in a manner that was impenetrable to third party programs such as Adobe Acrobat. In other words, those "Evernote(x)" files can not be sent to Acrobat for merging or anything else. In fact, they are useless unless they are opened individually and the pdf file within is extracted. This is too cumbersome if there are dozens or hundreds of files in that folder that need to be manipulated. I spent days trying to figure out a way around this and could not find a solution. Finally I discovered a workaround. This involves opening up "Powershell" on win10 and associating all the files in that folder with a new extension. Once in powershell you type cmd and then cd followed by the folder path where those files reside in. you then use the rename command to rename all of those files with the pdf, text or any other extension you may want And now, miraculously, all of those files are converted to pdf files And finally, I am now able to merge them with Acrobat or to do anything else I want with them. All of this used to take 30 seconds on Legacy because one could "save attachments" and these would all be saved directly in a folder of your choice in the exact format they happened to be in. However v10 eliminated this convenience and presented the exported files in that bizarre wrapping that was unreadable to any third party program. This workaround is the only one I've found that allows one to circumvent this issue.
  9. I am using Legacy on a win 7 machine and when I try to sync I see a red exclamation mark next to the sync. I have tried signing out and in, exiting, restarting the computer etc. I also have v10 running on a win 10 machine and an iphone and that is working fine. I've used Legacy on that win 7 machine for years and have never seen a sync error before. Just wondering if this a bad prognostic indicator for Legacy in general or just something local to my particular computer.
  10. Can you explain as to how you use snagit with EN and why it’s better than the clipper? Are there more steps involved or is it as seamless as clipper? I’ve looked it up but most people seem to use it in conjunction with Dropbox or other cloud services.
  11. Now that the exports/shares are instantaneous, I will get into the habit of checking if it came through properly with its images. Thanks for helping.
  12. I think it’s not just notion. I also notice that when I try to move gmails to EN the images don’t always come through. In most cases I haven’t cared enough about it but it’s definitely happening. What I see is what looks to be a placeholder for the image.
  13. Somebody sent me a page which contains some text and images from Notion. The text is an itinerary and the images are those of a map with his driving routes. When I share this to EN v10 ios (ipad) I get the itinerary but not the maps (ie: the images are not exported). Is there a work around?
  14. Thanks Gazumped. I will look into it. Still confused by how filterize could know how to tag and move when even I often need to think it through. For example, a scanned map of London refers to my current trip there (2023 London) and not previous trips (2020 London). Also, the current trip is work, not personal (different notebooks). And I’m going with another person (who has her own assigned tag). I can’t think how filterize could assign these but will certainly play with it and see how it works.
  15. What do you do if it moves it to the wrong notebook? Would you even notice? I usually only notice things in my default inbox. Once it gets moved to another notebook I tend not to notice it. Also, how often does it mis-tag?
  16. Are those instructions for a Mac? I have a PC. I tried every combination with J and nothing worked.
  17. Is there a quick shortcut that lets me place the focus in the search bar and conduct a search in all of my notes ie: "everywhere"? Right now, I am manually placing the cursor in the search bar and always selecting "everywhere" instead of the default notebook that always shows up.
  18. I use tags and notebooks in different ways. For example, I may have a tag such as "2023 Greece" which was in the Travel notebook. However, if I was going to Greece for a work-related issue it would have been in "Work" instead. When I am looking for places that I have been to while on vacation I could simply bring up the Travel notebook and just scroll through it until I find what I am looking for. This is easier than trying to remember if my last trip to Utah was tagged under 2022 Utah or 2022 Salt Lake City or 2022 Ski. Also, because I use both tags and notebooks I don't have to be so precise with my note names. For example, the search query "intitle: Honda Pilot" under the Home notebook will bring up repairs and maintenance records on that car. The same search under the Taxes notebook will bring up notes relating to tax deductions etc. Therefore, when I name my notes I don't need to be that precise because I know I will instantly find the proper context once the tab and notebook are entered.
  19. In Legacy, my pdfs would always display as attachments ie: neat little icons within the notes. In v10 I often see them in the opened format taking up the vast majority of my note space. For example, if I have 10 pdfs within a note, I can't even see the bottom 9 because the first one is open. I find that even if I select "view as attachments" I tend to find them open again when I return to the note. I suspect that in some cases they are open because I opened the pdf and then forgot to select "view as attachment" when I finished. I never had this problem with Legacy ie: a pdf would ALWAYS display as a closed attachment no matter what. I think that's a better system. There may even be an option to select "View as attachment" as an absolute (ie: every single case) or even give the option that pdfs that you want to remain open will remain open
  20. The most common workflow is to select your tags and then to assign the note to a new notebook. To select the tags I need to go to the bottom of the note and add the tags there. However, to select the notebook I need to go to the top of the page and activate the Move Note there. That's not quite logical because you are jumping from the very bottom to the very top of the page on each and every note assignment. In Legacy the tag and notebook selection areas sat side by side at the top, which is more logical.
  21. One of the most repetitive tasks that I perform on Evernote is to take notes from my inbox and assign them tags and move them into another notebook. In some cases, a certain tag will always be linked to a certain notebook. For example a tag that bears the initials of a family member (GH, OH, YH etc) means that that note always goes into my "Home" notebook. Therefore, it would be nice to associate those tags with an automatic move to "Home". The way this would work is that if you put in that tag and then click on "Move Note", it should automatically move the note to "Home". Instead, I now have to select Home even though the last 700 times I used this tag it always went to Home. Also, one related item, I notice that even though we select a notebook within the "Move note to..." dialog box it still requires clicking "Move" at the bottom ie: a wasted click. In the example below you see that I have put a tag called "2023 Greece" which should go into the "Travel" notebook. So you can see in the next screen shot that I select the "Move note to..." option and it prompts me to enter the notebook name (instead of defaulting to Travel since every other note with that tag has gone there). Nonetheless, I now type the first few letters and I see "Travel" appear as the only possible notebook. At this point I should be able to simply press Enter. However, there are still two more clicks I have to do ie: I have to select the Travel notebook and then click on "Move". Not the end of the world but it gets annoying if you do 30 of these a day.
  22. The fault was mine. However, I discovered another item of interest after keeping my screen on for 12 hours to download a large notebook ie: the little circle on the top kept indicating that it had not completed downloading. I was suspicious because every since note in the notebook had that grey, down pointing arrow which indicates that it has been downloaded. So, why is the circle at the top still indicating that it is only half completed? I shut EN down, re-opened and immediately realized that the download was over (and had probably been over for many hours). I now know not to look at the progress of the download at the top, but to actually stroll the notebook and check that all of the notes have indeed been downloaded.
  23. OK, I was not aware that I ever logged out or if I ignored a warning when I switched the toggle. I am now spending another 10-12 hours downloading notes that I just downloaded a few months ago. I can't imagine what made me think that I had to switch those toggles to OFF when I returned from the last trip?? Anyway, part of the value of this forum is to help others learn from one's dumb mistakes.
  24. Thanks Pink. Yes, I can see the little downloaded notes but I think that when the display closes after a few minutes then the downloading stops. It's a very strange requirement. Yesterday, I had to literally watch my ipad go from 100% charge to 0 as it tried to download an entire notebook. About 70% of it downloaded. Also, do you know whether changing that toggle switch erases all the previously downloaded notes? Initially I thought that switch was simply there to make the notes available offline and that if you no longer had a need for offline access you could just toggle the switch off. However, I now think that if you do that it disappears your notes. I could be wrong. So many of us travel these days that I'm surprised that much of this is still mysterious.
  25. A few months ago I selected one of my notebooks (with 3000 notes) to be an offline notebook. My recollection at the time is that I literally had to force my display to keep active for several hours (iphone and ipad) while the notebook was downloaded on the devices. Eventually it downloaded after many hours. A few weeks later I toggled the switch back again (not sure why). My question is does that action now uninstall all of the downloaded data that was initially put on the devices? I have a feeling that it does because as I'm looking at it now it appears to be trying to download all 3000 of those notes again. Another question: does the display need to be kept continuously on as the download occurs? Or does the download stop when the screen turns off? Should these types of large downloads only be attempted using wifi? Last question: if the switch is toggled to "make offline" does this mean that as notes are added to the notebook they are automatically downloaded to the device when my device is turned on?
