Title column is too narrow after Evernote upgrade

Recommended Posts

Evernote sure puts in many revision changes. Today (Feb 29) was DOWNGRADED BACK TO 10.71.2. This version was originally installed on Jan 31.

On Feb 27 it was 10.773.3 and several other versions in February.

Today I have lost the ability to adjust the width of the title column. It is too small now.

The Note List View uses the Side List.

The columns are Date Created, Title, and Location.

In the past, I used to hold the mouse between the Title column and the Location column to adjust the width.

Is there a way to widen the Toggle column?

Hi again - and I'm now on 10.78.2 (and getting a llittle dizzy) where the Titles column width issue seems to have been fixed... it's pretty variable now.

At least we can assume they're busy in Italy. If they pull this off, everybody over there will get a luxurious bonus - hopefully.

? They already fixed the title bar issue - I doubt bonuses were involved...

i was rnot referring to the title bar issue but to the many new versions they are churning out in Italy. By 'pull this off' I meant fixing what they inherited with the purchase of Evernote.

I'll have to wait for another one of the Evernote frequent updates.

When I use the - Help - Check for Updates, I receive the following info:

          You’re up to date!

Evernote 10.71.2 is currently the newest version available.

That's positively antediluvian (thank you for giving me an opportunity to use that word by the way ;)) but it's standard for the usual app roll-out process.  If I have any issues these days I just re-download the latest version from Evernote.com and install immediately - I'm bound to be at least one behind!

Have you restarted Evernote recently? Restarted your computer recently? You should be more up-to-date than that.

I've never seen someone fall more than about two versions behind without something having gone wrong in the auto-update process. @jbenson2 is about 7 updates behind, so if they don't get updated soon (particularly after restarting the app and perhaps even their computer) I recommend they go to https://evernote.com/download and download the latest version there.

Thanks for the upgrade link. I've been burned a few times with the Evernote manual download.

My 2024 Evernote Version History (might have missed a few)
Date Version
2/29 10.71.2
2/27 10.773.3
2/22 10.76.2
2/16 10.75.2
1/31 10.71.2
1/30 10.73.4
1/23 10.72.2

Because I have 42,250 notes (since 2008) I try to be careful.

I only use Evernote on my home computer.
I do not use the Evernote web version.
I shut down Evernote and my computer every night and restart in the morning.

I will wait until tomorrow and see if there is another automatic upgrade notice. Thanks once again.

You're welcome. Thanks for providing the additional detail, though I find your version history to be a bit odd. It looks like you received progressively newer versions from 1/23 to 2/27, but then on 2/29 you went backwards to an older version. Any idea why? Did you do anything different on that day?

FWIW, I was on 10.77.x until this morning, when I was auto-updated to:

10.78.2-mac-ddl-public (20240227143346)
Editor: v177.5.0
Service: v1.94.2

didn't know this is used in English as well. In Germany we use this quite often actually (mainly to describe our advancements in digitalisation or the bureaucracy over here).

Hi there,

being in the Windows-Evernote V6(Legacy) to V10 upgrade-process,
I am trying to take the last few obstacles that version 10 still has for me.

==>  The title-width issue is still an open point in my use-case:

We are using Evernote for over 12 years to make documentation works for customer services. Therefore we may have longer title names with prefixes that contains data for the dates the ticket was taken, the installation etc.
So the actual note title that describes the content of the note begins usually at character number >=60..80.
This may be a difference of our usecase from those of other users.

But with Evernote V6 this has never been a problem for us, as we could expand the title bar to the the maximum width of the window.

With Evernote V10  (I installed the latest version of today => V 10.80.3) the maximum size to expand is still considerably restricted.
Please see the screenshots attached.

Has anybody found a solution yet ?

Thanks in advance.

The maximum width is restricted.

You could only (with an effort) move part of the information you have wrapped into the title into tags or the note body.

Search will still find it.

Any idea, why this width is restricted?  Makes no sense in my opinion.
When I extend the columns to their maximum width it leaves plenty of unused space in the note list.
This "maximum width" should only be a forms-parameter in the code , which should be easiy to increase (?)

Search is working, but sometimes you want a quick overview of note-titles in a note-list that is already pre-filtered by a key-word - search.

This will not be a useful suggestion, only an observation. In Legacy, some users seem to have developed what seem (to me) to be edge cases, such as extremely long titles, workflows dependent on editing the updated or creation dates of notes, etc. There are always good reasons to do this at the time, but they are rather pushing the limits of the data fields. In v. 10, these limits seem to be stricter, and not as friendly to such (IMHO) edge cases.

There are some discussions in the forum of possible ways of maintaining Legacy as an archive of past notes on an offline computer. If that can work, you could perhaps maintain the older records there for easier viewing and access, and begin creating new records using a different method.
