Not the notebook - just the note On my Mac, I have a local notebook for encryption. Yes, this has impacted me many times. I appreciate there are limitations for the mobile devices, but I would expect the desktop versions to be the same UI.

Its one of the reasons I switch to the Notability app for serious note taking

We've gone a little off topic, and encryption is not something I use much, but I'll try to explain further If you have un-encrypted data in a sync'd notebook, - It gets replicated to the other platforms, including the Evernote cloud. - It's also replicated in your note history This is not great if you want to keep it private, which I assume is desired because we're talking about encryption To be really secure, you should do your encryption in a Local Notebook, or outside Evernote You should only move the note to a sync'd notebook after you've done the encryption With basic Evernote IOS, you can't do encryption (perhaps for this very reason)

I should have used the word notebooks instead of folders On the desktop (Mac or Windows) you have local notebooks and sync'd notebooks (default) You should always do your encryption/decryption in a local notebook.

I'd prefer to see other priorities get addressed. I would think copy/paste should work fine for most use cases. One thing has bothered me about your post. The iPad is not the greatest place to work with encrypted text. Yes, you can decrypt the text, for viewing. Even if you could edit it, you now have the decrypted text in a synced notebook.

Since we're going off topic. My request would be less extensive. Currently EN allows the encryption of text within a note. This excludes attachments like pdfs and images. I'm not happy with the extra work to complete my note encryption.

In all this discussion, that's the point that I strongly agree with. I feel its my choice/responsibility to encrypt my data, but it bothers me that Evernote only goes halfway on this. I looked at external products (example Saferoom) but the result is less functional.

That would be like saying - "For me, its a fact that the earth is flat" on a Planet Earth forum discussion I would also express my disagreement to that Of course the person is entitled to hold any opinion they want. But if they are going to express it, it should be based on sound facts. I will admit that they said "For me" which possibly mean that it doesn't have to fact based.

Can you explain further. I'm not a OneNote user so I'm not familiar with the features. I'm assuming the first requirement is that your notes would have to be flagged as Archival. What does OneNote have to identify your search as Archive vs non-Archive.

I'd have to disagree on this. If I had serious task management requirements, I'd be looking at different apps. However my task management requirements are simple and I do them within Evernote. For me, Evernote is the best digital filing cabinet in the world, and the PIM features are an added bonus.

Yes, I suppose Evernote could devote resources to adding a Word Export button. But what about <insert favourite app>!!! There could be a multitude of postings. My opinion; if this is important to you, do as @JMichaelTX suggested above and look at one of the keyboard shortcut apps. I'd prefer to see Evernote work on other priorities.

I think many people are blind to this, however would still use the services even if they thought about it. And given your concerns (as you say, paranoia) I understand your desire for complete encryption of your Evernote data. Since it's not currently an option, the only solution I see is a third party application to encrypt your data before adding it to Evernote.

Got it. Evernote currently only offers encryption at the text level within a note. So, the request would be for the option of encryption at the note/notebook/all levels.

HIPPA and FERPA compliance - Now that is taking the discussion to a new level. I haven't looked at that for a while, but I seriously doubt that EN fits in. I'm not sure what you mean by "a more secure information repository." Evernote has implemented a certain level of security; as a user you can supplement that. What are you asking Evernote to implement?

I up voted it, as something nice to have However its not a big concern to me and I understand the development team may have other priorities. I understand that they are working to standardize the editors across the various platforms.

Can you be more specific as to what you want updates on? Yes, some (all?) of your data should be encrypted if it goes into the cloud. Or for the more paranoid, even if it goes into your computer. Evernote offers an encryption tool, and there are external solutions. Maybe I should be more paranoid but I feel some sense of security in using the native Evernote cloud services. Of course I do encrypt sensitive data. Encrypting the data means its not available for service like Evernote's image/pdf OCR Sharing notebooks . I've built up a reference database and want easy access to it - its mostly public web clippings and scanning

I keep an eye on various the various alternative apps. I'm not serious contemplating leaving Evernote; more as a techie wanting to know new features etc. I'm not going to spend too much time on this; usually its a waste of time with nothing gained. I see parting notes from users as they switch but I can't see myself doing this. I am a power user; with Evernote and Apple. In some ways this traps me because it would be so difficult to switch. For me, I couldn't consider any new application/service unless its multi platform with syncing. These days, my platforms are Mac and iPad. Tomorrow probably the same but nothing is guaranteed.

Sorry, I meant Evernote/IOS feature If you're not accepting its an IOS limitation (there are a few), you can follow up with a support ticket for a bug, or repost as a feature request and we can vote on it.

What were you looking for? I know there's an HTML export. AppleScript might give you more options.

I use a default notebook @Inbox as my default notebook. I then process the notes and assign notebook and tags. I could do this right away, but I usually do it later.

Have you considered using Linux applications to access your Evernote data. I'm not a Linux user, so I don't have much insight on this - a quick Google search brought up Everpad
