Sometimes, not always, when I click an internal app link on Windows, it auto opens Chrome and tries to sign me in to web based Evernote.

If you edit the link, so that you can see the actual link, is it in internal link format (begins evernote:///) or a regualr weblink?

I haven't used templates, but could they help - eg store the header formats with a template?

It depends. I assume  EN expect you to update the header style. Then every time you use that header, within the note, you get the updated style. However when you turn this note into a template the header styles are reset back to default. The same happens if you copy or duplicate the note.

So you would need to modify the header styles but not update them. They would then survive the templating process and if you wanted to you could then update the styles in the newly created note. Does this sound like madness? I agree, but my atempts to get EN to acknowledge that this is a problem have fallen on deaf ears.

Is it possible to filter list of notes by Tags?

Just one other thought. The filter in the tasks pop out searches in both the individual tasks and the containing note book names. So you could add your "tags" to the name of the notebook.

I really like the EN tasks philosophy of having tasks in the notes with all the accompanying info needed and having the ability to then pull out all those tasks into a more traditional task list. The ability to pull out the tasks from a subset of notes filtered by tag (or any other criteria) would be an awesome additional feature.

Is it possible to filter list of notes by Tags?

Not directly. You would need to use the filter menu (or the equivalent advanced search syntax) to find notes that contain tasks and contain a specific tag. You would then need to look in the individual notes for the tasks.

    image.png.0414dbab5f7bc87527839c63e29fec58.png

The equivalent search syntax for the search shown in the screen shot  is

    tag:$action contains:taskNotCompleted

  5. @Jon lowbank @Steve2014  Just a quick update on this issue. If you add the initial  tag by searching for it in the main search bar you can then search correctly. You need to make sure that the tag appears underneath the search bar

    image.png.14ed976d86f3498686aa822bcacc4c78.png

If you add the tag in any other way (list below of ways I've tried) you don't get the tag incorporated into the search as shown in the screen shot. The main problem with this is that the main search is rubbish at finding tags!

    Other ways I've tried

    • Clicking a tag in the sidebar
    • clicking a tag in the main tags pop out window
    • using the filter
    • Searching for the tag using ctrl+Q (which btw does an excellent job of searching for tags if you add characters from the beginning of the tag name )
    • Filtering by a tag from the tag list at the bottom of a note

Not really a great workaround but it helps me understand why very ocassionally it seemed to work for me - obviously the times I've added the tag this way.

EN does not work on either wired or wi-fi connection.

I assume the mobile devices don't work on either your own wifi or wifi elsewhere or data?

What I'm asking is does it work on different networks. We don't know whether you are using it at home or work or using mobile data or what.

Even just a up/down arrow to step straight to and through the occurrences would help.

At the moment you are stuck with enter (or click) to edit the note and then ctrl+F to jump to the first occurence. Hitting enter will then cycle through the occurrences. I'm not sure that this is really that much more complicated than the compromise you are asking for, although I agree not as straightforward as legacy.

  8. @Steve2014 Your process is exactly the same as mine. See my description here:

My support ticket for this was raised on Oct 10, 2023 (10.63.3!!) and still no meaningful response.

(I have LOTS of them so the AHK script suggested is not as convenient for me either

Don't really understand this comment. My AHK script (see further down the post above) chooses any tag from the sidebar and puts tag:tagName into the search bar. So instead of hovering over a tag and clicking it to use the filter you hover over the tag and run the ahk script.

@gazumped  The support ticket number is  #3764929 incase you can work any magic!

Every time I open a note in a new window by right clicking on the note > "Open in new Window", I cannot resize nor minimize that new window

Does the shortcut to minimise a window (Windows key + M) work?

You might need to completely uninstall the app using something like revo uninstaller (free). Then reinstall the latest version (if you are not already using that)

It's very poor, and I don't want to yet do the same search all over again within the note.

If you do open the search within the note (enter to move the focus to the body of the note and then ctrl+F (Windows)) the search term is pre-populated for you and it jumps to the first occurrence. No need to scroll through lots of pages but I agree not as convenient as your previous expereince.

How is the done in the new version?

It isn't! EN has decided, in their infinite wisdom, that you have to search first and then filter (by tag or whatever). Please feed back directly to EN in whatever ways you can think of that this is ridiculous.

If I am likely to need a more complex search I use the advanced search syntax and bypass the filter menu altogether. I have some autohotkey scripts that help me with this. More discussion in this thread:

    Repro :
    1. create new note
    2. drag-n-drop file to note
    3. note title does not change to file name

And there's no option in Settings to make that default behaviour happen.

You've posted this in the Androd forum but it looks more desktop to me, although I could of course be wrong.

The way to do this, which works and is quicker, is to drag the attachment directly into the note list. If you want it in a particular notebook select that notebook first. If you have "Notes" selected it will go into your default notebook. The new note is created automatically (saving you that step) with the title of the note as the title of the file.

Also for syntax based something like tag:"tag_name" seems to work in the search field.

Just a few hints that might be helpful, adding to the great responses you've already had

The advantage of using underscores rather than spaces in tag names, is that you don't need the quotation marks.

alt+F2 (Windows but there will be a mac equivalent) takes you straight to the filter menu with the tags section already open. Beware though that there is a bug, that comes and goes with different versions, which clears the search field when you do this.

Don't forget that with the search syntax you can choose to have any or all of the tags. Also now Boolean search is available for everybody it's much simpler to build up complex searches (although it doesn't really add much capability to the existing any: term). For example

    tag:tag1 AND (tag:tag2 OR tag:tag3)

I've recently upgraded to version 10, and I'm finding that a useful feature is missing. In the Legacy version, I could easily select multiple tags and notebooks from the left panel by holding down the CTRL key and left-clicking.

I too very much miss this functionality. Why do I need to open the filter menu to find a tag when I can see the tag I want to add to the filter in the sidebar?

alt+F2 (Windows) is handy as it opens the filter menu directly in the tags section.

I actually have an autohotkey script (Windows only) that allows me to hover over a tag in the sidebar and add it to the search using the tag:tagName advanced search syntax. I also have shortcuts that add specific, much used tags (like $pinned), in the same format. These are at the top of my tag structure (hence the $)  and used to be so easty to add to a search in legacy.

Evernote will not show the note in the search results. This bug persists until some point in the future when Evernote syncs.

Takes a few seconds for me, which is acceptable (for me).

You could try using intitle: before the search word and see if that helps

If it's a recent note you can also use the recent notes list. View 🢂 Show recent notes in the sidebar. They appear underneath shortucts so you have to expand the sortcuts section if you haven't already. However, this won't actually give you anything that notes, sorted by updated doesn't. For what you are doing you might be better having the notes list because you can simply drag the note from the note list into the note to make the link.
