I'm obviously delighted that this will be useful for some people. Sadly many of my attachments are clipped from the web and their names are often not very helpful.
For me personally the whole point of having attachments in EN is to be able to add other information which either adds context or makes the file easier to find. This might be as simple as making the title of the note the actual name of a report rather than the meaningless title of the pdf. Also the ability to add numerous attachments, with explanation, as part of a bigger story. If all I wanted was a list of files then there are lots of options which don't use EN.

I completely agree. It is a weird view which has been in V10 since the very beginning. One thing that might help is that if you right click on the shortcut (Windows) you get the option to open in a new window which leaves the existing view unchanged. You can also open in a new window by double clicking but that gives you the "no notelist" version of the note as well. I assume you can do something similar on Mac.

Every. Single. Time. All they had to do was make it Alt+/. Or ^. Or |.
Yep, even when you type the ctrl+/ shortcut to open the keyboard shortcuts list. This is doubly annoying because the insertion point is no longer automatically placed in the keyboard shortcut search so you have to click in the search bar twice before you type in your search.
For the record / does not invoke the menu when typed in a code block - so there is somebody in EN actually thinking for at least some of the time.

Can someone explain how this works.
To the right of the heading is a little anchor symbol. If you click it, the link is copied to the clipboard
You can then paste that link. Beware though that It is just a link - it doesn't include the text in the header.
Of more use, to me anyway, is to use the insert menu or the / to add a table of contents, This produces a nicely formatted TOC
The main problem I have found with it so far is that it will not open sub-headings if they are within a folded main heading. You need to unfold everything individually first (as there is no single command to unfold everything)

The add table of contents function is now in the / or insert menu as of 10.85.2
Only problem I've found so far is that the links don't work if they are to a sub heading (e.g. medium) within a main heading (e.g. large) that is folded. This just reinforces the need to have a command to open and close all foldable sections.
Also Im sure that ctrl+Home used to take you to the top of the note. That doesn't work anymore. It's important to be able to easily go back to your TOC. Best option I've found at the moment is F2 (to go to the title, although the screen doesn't scroll) followed by the down arrow.
Also the TOC items are not dynamic, so if you change one of the headings you need to remake the TOC (or manually edit) - I guess I can live with that.

I expect the search box to be cleared (as in all other apps I know
The current behaviour allows you to build up a search so for me not automatically clearing the search bar is essential.
When you open the the search bar the insertion point is positioned at the end of the existing text (to allow further search terms to be added). shift+Home highlights the text and then you can just type your new search term in. An alternative to this approach is to clear the search by going to Home (Alt+ctrl+1) before opening the search bar (alt+ctrl+F)

I'm seeing a slightly different behaviour today (Windows 10.84.3)
Closed EN and reopened and the behaviour is back to normal - searching does nothing and then clers the filter if you try again. However the "include sub tags" hack is still working

Please fix this issue!!!!
Evernote - at least show some respect to customers and provide us with an update or reason why this is still not done.
I suggest you change your EN forum sort order to "sort by date" unless you have just actively chosen to ignore the previous post.

I'm seeing a slightly different behaviour today (Windows 10.84.3)
If I filter by a tag and then search, nothing happens but the filter is "moved across" to be under the search input. I don't think this reliably happened before. As explained above this is the key to being able to use the search. Subsequent searches then work as expected. This is a much better alternative to a reload (which often removes the filter and always destroys my nicely filtered task list). I also noticed that changing the tag filter to "include sub tags" from the drop down in the blue tag filter lozenge and then back again if required also works.

I have to make my subtasks a list under the task and use strikeout on the text as I complete the subtasks.
We know there are changes planned for tasks bit I don't know if they will help with this.
Personally at the moment I would make each task a note and the subtasks would be EN tasks. You can then use the notes tab of the task view.

Are we getting confused here between true double spacing (ie within a paragraph) and the spacing between paragraphs and points in a list (ie spacing after a carriage return).
For me there is increased spacing within a paragraph which is just about acceptable but sllly amounts of space between points in a list.

Is there a way to have EN 'name the 'note' that I am creating the name of the PDF automatically?
@gazumped suggestion is great. Otherwise the following will create a new note containing your pdf with the title being the title of the pdf (without the "pdf" extension)
- Drag the pdf into the note list area of EN. If you are in a notebook it will place the new note in that notebook. If you are not (e.g Notes or a search) it will prompt you for a notebook
- On Windows (I assume Mac has something similar) right click the pdf file and choose send to Evernote (you might need to look in "show more options" in Windows 11). It will go into your default notebook.

Any suggestion to get a correct:

I assume you are modifying the standard EN styles. Are you saving those styles within EN using update style? When I paste into word the font is lost but colours and bullet points seem to OK(ish).

the ability to sort tasks is also needed.
Perhaps you should explain why the current sort options do not meet your need.

For me the ability to not show completed tasks or to move them to the bottom is sufficient. What else would you like to see?

copying tags not working in v10.84.3 on macOS
Maybe it is a Mac thing. Clicking a tag and then pressing ctrl+C copies the tag to the clipboard on Windows. (10.84.3)

I'm not really clear what this means.May well be irrelevant, but you can filter directly from a tag at the bottom of the note using the menu found by pressing the v

UPDATE. The shortcut to open in a new window is shift + double click. To make it consistent with the behaviour of a text link I think it should be ctrl + double click.
-
I think the inability to open the link in a new window by ctrl+clicking it is probably just an oversight and should be easily fixed. I predominantly use text style and didn't realise this was an issue. With EN's current bug of not opening links in notes which are in a filtered list the only way is to open links is often to open in a new window.
Both the title and preview styles are dynamically linked to the target note. You change the name of the link by changing the title of the target note. I think this is the intended behaviour and should not be changed.
If you use the new feature of creating a new note by creating a link (insert 🢂 new linked note) this is automatically created in title style, whatever you have set as preference, so that the name of the target note can be passed back to the parent note.
I would prefer all links to behave the same and faithfully represent the name of the target document.

Is anyone else able to filter by notebook on Web/Windows? It isn't just me, is it?
No definitely not just you. The ability to filter (or sort) the tasks view by notebook has been removed. We know they have plans to revamp the task view so hopefully this is not going to be a long term limitation.
The only way you could do this at the moment would be to filter notes by notebook and whether they contain a task. ie bypass the tasks screen altogether, which is a massive step backwards.

Nothing is improved, is it?
No, they are just emphasising that while you may control the words in your note they have absolute, non-negotiable control of how it looks and they will tinker with the UI if and when they feel like it.

Strange. Certainly works for me. You could try the web version (if you are not already using this) to eliminate any possibility of local database problems.

Actually I'm thinking of disabling the slash feature since I don't like the way it pops up constantly as an option.
I don't believe that is an option. The best you can do is hide the "inline hint".

Just tried.
If EN is open it took 6 seconds to open the file section (17,852 files)
If EN was actually closed when the files section was open it took 13 secs to open EN and re-load the files section. I have "Resume where I left off" as my opening EN preference.
