So at first I had no reason to doubt that the edit protection toggle button at the bottom of a note in the iOS app - v10.3 would preserve all aspects of a note from being changed. Well, it turns I was wrong in thinking that. You see, there actually is more to a note than just its content: you have tags, and notebook location. So imagine my surprise when learning 5 minutes ago that without tapping the edit button, I can add and delete note tags, move the note from one notebook to another, then another, and the app will sync the changes. This seems - to me - to be a glaring defect if one thinks that making changes to a note without first tapping "Edit" a note aren't saved. @Shane D.has this been brought to your attention?

Evernote for iOS version 10.3 Release notes
southernforge replied to Shane D.'s topic in Release Notes (iOS)
How about core functionality being restored first? Better yet, how about a mea culpa from Evernote, perhaps a restoration of apps that work, while beta testing is conducted with user input? A little frustration is appropriate, I think... -
Evernote for iOS version 10.3 Release notes
southernforge replied to Shane D.'s topic in Release Notes (iOS)
Hi @PinkElephant, thank you. i see that one of the notebooks with a small notes count, after several iterations - as you said would be the case - the offline setting remained off. Still waiting to see if the setting switches to not offline for the larger notebooks, while keeping the downloadeed content, and am waiting for awhile to recheck -
Evernote for iOS version 10.3 Release notes
southernforge replied to Shane D.'s topic in Release Notes (iOS)
@Shane D.I downloaded ver 10.3 (1108952) the day it was made available, and to date there are still 4 notebooks stuck at nearly downloaded - per the green progress bar - and those bars has not moved at all for any of the 4 notebooks. 1 notebook contains approximately 10944 notes 1 notebook contains 31 text notes 1 notebook contains 1237 notes 1 notebook contains 1020 notes These notebooks comprise almost all of my 13GB of notes What gives? Version 8 of the app was frustrating at times, but NOTHING compared to version 10.3. At this point, I'm pretty frustrated by repeated failures of the app, and really hope you have some insight beyond uninstall and reinstall the app - this is just needlessly difficult... -
But it's still excruciatingly slow to download offline notebooks, still drains the battery more quickly than any other app I have installed, still allows partial editing of notes even when "Edit" has not been selected. Well... maybe someday they'll populate version 10 with version 8 features that worked. Maybe.

Outta here
southernforge replied to southernforge's topic in Evernote for iOS Issues (Versions 10.0 and above)
Yes, that's correct - they are offline notebooks. But since the content was already downloaded, what is the benefit of of the app downloading all over again the content? What I was trying to say was that the new app is so much slower than the old app at doing the same tasks, that I felt the only option was to rely solely on the legacy desktop app. -
I have had - and used heavily - Evernote for iOS installed for as long as I can recall. I relied on the information daily, and loved the design and functionality of the app. Just amazing. But the new app... we all know of the challenges and failures, but yesterday I did what was previously unthinkable: I just removed the app from my iPhone - the final straw happened after moving 2,200 notes from one notebook to another in the legacy desktop application; this took 5-10 minutes. Last night I opened the iPhone app and it was stuck at the elephant logo - and thus unusable - for at least 10 minutes (I walked away after 10 minutes, with the elephant logo still on the screen.) When I came back to the phone, the notes were visible, and the app was mirroring the synchronization from the desktop app, moving notes 1 to 2 at a time and after an hour I just shut down the app and deleted it from my phone. It's just sad and infuriating.

Therein lies the problem: many of us have invested our data, money, and trust with this company, and the degree to which we trust Evernote has degraded significantly. But it didn't have to be this way... I used to enthusiastically recommend Evernote to family and colleagues; but not anymore - there currently is no reliability to speak of. Sad what bad leadership does.

Is there a better way?
southernforge replied to southernforge's topic in Evernote for iOS Issues (Versions 10.0 and above)
Thanks for that info. It begs the question of why switch to a different platform that has serious issues - at least in this case, the implementation of the ver 10 applications - when, as you said, advances could be made with current technology... -
I'm not a programmer, but I have written quite a few vbscripts in my time. So while not knowledgeable in this area, my question is this: with the current Evernote version having been written in Electron (do i have the name correct?), is there a language/platform that might have made this version useful, or even just adequate? thanks

Evernote for iOS version 10.2 Release notes
southernforge replied to Shane D.'s topic in Release Notes (iOS)
@rmainva, opening a support ticket seems to be the more useful approach for getting the issue noticed by Evernote support, it seems. -
Hi @Shane D., I promise that I'm not trying to be snarky or sarcastic. But how in the name of <insert #!$% here> could Evernote management or product managers have believed that the initial release of version 10.x was an improvement over ver 8.x.x ? I just do not understand how they honestly saw this product as a step forward when it contained so many flaws and features removed. It seems like such a boondoggle, especially with the idea that the "Legacy" versions (I only have experience with the Windows client) products may be discontinued - a concern at least among us users, that Evernote management/product managers are vastly out of touch with the needs of it's userbase. Please, help me understand... thank you

It seems (still) that downloading offline notebooks pauses when i leave Evernote on the phone to go to some other app - mail, omnifocus, whatever, and only resumes once i return to evernote - at least per the green "progress" bar. thought this was resolved in an earlier version. am i seeing things correctly? thanks

Evernote for iOS version 10.1 Release notes
southernforge replied to AgnesP's topic in Release Notes (iOS)
@PinkElephant, Thank you, your instructions were spot-on, though with my notes altogether creating 12+ GB of disk space, I just don't want to let my phone be hijacked for the majority of a day. Autolock is now a maximum of 5 minutes, adding to the frustration I, and most users perhaps, feel at being encouraged to upgrade, a process in which this version causes frustration, loss of productivity, data, and worst, trust.
