Kind people here recommended Notability, and that's the app I use now. It integrates with many apps, Google Drive among them, So I write on the IPad and the notes are on my laptop and desktops instantly.

Penultimate had great potential.  Out of 8500 "notes" I have, 500 were written on Penultimate, mostly math notes/problems. RIP, PE. (Still an Evernote user for the other 90%+ of my stuff)

Noteshelf is the best replacement for Penultimate as it is the only other handwriting app with automatic synchronisation to Evernote. It actually works exactly the same as Penultimate - creates protected notes in Evernote that reflect every change in Noteshelf.

Something that works on one device running iOS but not another,  might not be that easy to pin down.  And the time taken to fix a bug is usually split 98% finding 2% coding!

Well, the bug exists since the release of v10, so two years should be enough to find it. And as we found out (see the thread in the Request section) it actually works on the iPad as soon as the screen size is reduced to the size of an iPhone. So the cause of the bug is already narrowed down. IF Evernote would treat this as a bug and not as a request for a new feature, it should be possible to locate it and to fix it. But they don't.

  3. (This bug was discussed in length in the Requests section of the forum, but I think it is worth having its own topic in the Issues section as well.)

The two-finger gesture to zoom in and out within the annotation mode of a PDF document works as expected in Evernote on iOS (iPhone) and in Evernote on Android. It does NOT work in Evernote on iPadOS (iPad). Just a plain and simple bug that should be easy to fix.

I wish the Evernote devs would look at the Apple Watch functionality which Bear notes has. Copy it, stick your obligatory green hue on it and ship it already!

They could look at their own watch app that existed before v10. But the point is they no longer maintain a specific iOS version. There is only a "mobile version" with the same basic code for iOS, iPadOS and Android. An Apple Watch app does not fit in this concept. I wouldn't expect them to release a new watch app soon. FastEver 3 might be the only option for a long time.

In the web version, just click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the note, copy internal link, copy web link, and paste it into another tab.

No, this does not work in the current ("new") version of the web version. I get a "Multiple tabs not supported in this browser." message. But maybe it works in Chrome. I use the default browser on my Mac, Safari.

I need to be able to open 2 notes at the same time, when will evernote get around to this???

You can already do this in the desktop versions (macOS, Windows). Just double click on a note in the notes list. This will open the note in a new window. You can then open more notes in separate windows in the same way.

There is currently no way to do this in the web version or in the mobile versions (iOS/iPadOS, Android). I still hope that they will implement multi-window in Evernote for iPadOS some day to make it possible.

As I interpret this little experiment the problem is something else: For annotation EN overlays the original pdf with an invisible layer to hold the annotations.

When trying to pinch to zoom, you are only zooming this layer. The keyboard as an OS function reaches „behind“ it to the document itself.

Because the annotation tools are still these aged tools we know from Skitch, there is probably more to do than flip a bit that says „enable zooming“

    Just my 5ct …

But then again it just works on the iPhone or on the iPad if the viewport is smaller than the page (workaround 1). I actually think it would just be kind of flipping a bit that says "enable zooming". My guess is that the implementation of the mobile version of v10 was done without thinking about bigger screens or even testing it on bigger tablets. And now they don't want to touch the code of this functionality anymore. Maybe the Skitch programmer is no longer around.

Thanks for posting. I tried on a Logitech keyboard connected by the smart connectors with my iPad Pro 10.5.

No zooming found, however. Maybe it only works with some keyboards, not with others.

Important is the first step: Tapping in the document. The keyboard shotcuts for zooming (on a German keyboard cmd+ß and cmd+´) will only work after that.

  9. Today's update didn't change anything. But I found another workaround:

If a keyboard is connected to your iPad (like the Magic Keyboard) you can zoom in the PDF via keyboard. After entering the editing mode tap somewhere on the document. This will create a pink arrow, but you could undo it. Then you can zoom in and out with Command+"+" and Command+"-" (on the English keyboard, otherwise the two keys on your local keyboard left of the Delete/Backspace key). You can change the view with the cursor keys (+Shift for bigger movements).

  10. It is exactly the same with iOS and macOS as shown in the video. I think it all comes down to these two things:

    - The web links (starting with http://evernote.com) should redirect to the desktop app or stay in it when used on a system with installed desktop app.

    - It should be possible to create app links (starting with evernote://) on the mobile app as well.

  11. There are export options in the iOS version. You can export one single note as ENEX file via the three point menu in the note, then "Note information" and then "Export note". This will generate a mail with the ENEX file of the current note as attachment. Cumbersome, but works - for one single note. You can also export the note (except for included documents) as PDF via the "Note printing" functionality. This will give you a preview dialog. Use the two finger gesture for zooming in on the preview and you will get a PDF file of the note.

My dream team in this respect is the integration with MacOS Preview that v10 offers on the Mac.

This integration is actually just saving the PDF in a local Evernote path and opening the default PDF program (not necessarily Preview). All changes in the file are then updated in the note. The iOS/iPadOS app already saves the PDF file in a folder "Evernote" on iCloud Drive if you click on the download button in Evernote. They could just do it exactly like in macOS. Same with Office files. But it would be better to use "On my iPhone/iPad" as path and not iCloud Drive.

Wow! That’s helpful. It’s a workaround for now. Thanks for that. Evernote still needs to fix this because this confirms it’s a bug.

Also, once you zoom in the side-by-side view it continues to work in full view until you exit the annotation view. Try it it works!

Yes, I noticed this as well. But the quality is very bad (pixelated) when you zoom in.

I wrote this to the support and they answered: "I just want to clarify that this is not a bug and please know that we are still working on adding the zoom-in feature on a PDF file while annotating on the iPad app". Obviously they did not understand my description, of course it is a bug. At least they say that they are working on it.

  14. It actually works on the iPad if you reduce the screen size to iPhone size! Open Evernote side-by-side with another app and give it just a third of the screen width. Voilà, the two-finger-gesture suddenly works! They just need to fix the bug, so it works with bigger screen sizes as well. But as no Evernote staff is monitoring these postings here, they probably will not even put it in the "bugs to fix" list.

I love that they are “still considering” whether or not to add this feature. If you have the time I recommend you submit a support ticket. If enough customers have support tickets they might do something about it.

I did this before and got the same answer.

This is especially strange as the actual PDF editor is the same as in the desktop versions - minus the "+"/"-" buttons for zooming. It should be very simple to just add these in the mobile versions as well. Or add a "turn off" switch for the edit buttons, so that the two finger zoom gesture would work.

You've lost me on this one. What did you mean by "how do you align it correctly"?

Could you please describe how you manage to scroll just one page down in edit mode? Without changing the zoom or the margin on the left side. Just exactly one page down.

If you go back into the edit mode of the sketch, it appears all the thicknesses are preserved.

But you don't read your notes in edit mode, do you?

I got the iPad and it has exceeded all my expectations! Awesome device.

As for your questions. Just as I had researched:

Writing longer notes than one screen
Writing longer notes is not a problem since the canvas is now infinite. You can scroll as far as you want.

    Saving
I personally have Never selected for my screen time out.

    Default background and pen
I don't mind selecting a different background for every note.

    Unwanted marks
The latest Evernote appears to have palm rejection. I don't get unwanted marks.

No support for double tap on Apple Pencil 2
This is a minor niggle in my books. I don't think it's that big a deal.

So overall I think I'll use Evernote exclusively for now. It seems to be doing everything I expect from it for now.

Yes, the newer iPads are awesome. It is a shame, Evernote does not support them very well.

Longer notes: Yes, as I said, the only way is the two-finger-zoom gesture. But it is impossible to use the two fingers to do a straight one page scrolling. Are you actually able to do it on the iPad?

Unwanted marks: No, the Evernote app definitely has no palm rejection. Just use it for handwritten notes in a meeting, you will get lots of unwanted marks on the screen. They need to turn off drawing with fingers completely to avoid it.

Another strange behavior: Using the sketch functionality with the Apple Pencil the line width is adjusted to pressure. Great, but as soon as you save the sketch, all lines have suddenly the same width. So while writing it looks completely different than what you get as a result.
