Evernote, if you are monitoring this thread, please address this functional user need.

Hi.  They're not paying attention here - we're mainly other users.

For a more timely notification please raise this with Support https://help.evernote.com/hc/requests/new (be very patient for a response) or feed it back to feedback@evernote.com

In both cases you'll get a 'thanks' response but they won't keep you in the loop - when and if the feature changes it will come as part of a future update.

I would expect official help documentation to match current application release capability.

You must be new around here ;)

Evernote is generally pretty good,  but there are an awful lot of changes and more to come;  I started writing my own help pages but had to give up when the facts started changing faster than I could update my information.  If you find any anomalies just feed them back to Evernote - feedback@Evernote.com - and they'll get fixed in due course.

It's also fine to post queries here if you can't work out how to do something.  We're (usually) fairly helpful to anyone asking honest questions... :)

Anyway, I submitted it as a request:

Seems like both feedback and Support requests both wind up in the same numbering system and visible at that link when you're logged in.  I can't see your specific report,  but anyone can see their own recent posts here - https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/requests

Hi.  Device / OS / Evernote version / browser?  Please describe how you get to that screen and what you've done to try to fix it.  Clear caches? Restart? Reinstall?

new note was created in the present notebook but without the right-most pane

Also weird,  but rather different than no new note at all...  The note list seems to disappear when you select a single note from a search or go to a specific note from a link.  Maybe the theory is that you get as much screen space as possible for your specific note.  @Mike P posted that Ctrl+Alt+2 will reset the screen from there.

  7. Hi.  Stacks are,  and always have been,  one way to segregate notes visually.  Stacks contain notebooks,  which contain notes,  which contain pretty much anything you want that will fit into 200MB.

It so happened at one stage that searching for a term including a specific "stack:name" would only return results from that stack.  Whether that was a planned step or a happy accident of coding is unknown.  That - along with many other things - has changed,  so now you search for a term and filter for a stack if you need to via "located in".

I have several stacks including ones for projects where I want all the related notes in one place.  and another for notes I have shared with others - mainly so that I don't lose them or accidentally delete something that someone else still needs.

You can use or not use stacks in any way that you want - IMHO that's one of the joys of Evernote.  It's pretty much a blank slate within which you can use any system you wish.

  8. Hi.  Most folks here are other users,  and anyone who says they have any hint where Evernote is going is peddling fake news.  You'd need to ask your question of the new head honcho Federico Simionato who's quite active on whatever Twitter is called this week - or or at least give Evernote some feedback if you feel they're headed in the wrong direction.

Like any software company they're driven by the market - users want AI,  they get it;  users want tasks and a calendar to manage them - they get it.  Anything to make the package more attractive.  While I'm using most of the new features (except - ugh - AI) I agree that maybe there should be a way to hide controls that you feel are unnecessary or just take up too much screen space.

Note-taking though is a core feature and will no doubt get further enhancements as users request them.  I have something approaching 70k notes acquired over a similar timescale and use Evernote on desktop and tablet every day.  I'm using my usual approach to tech - I'll keep on using Evernote until I find something better... without wasting a huge amount of time checking out the newest products on the market plus updates on all the old wannabees.

If I happen to find something better,  I'll swop without conscience:  but until I do,  I'm not going to worry about what might happen at some unspecified future time. I have too much to do and too many current problems!

Plus I have a backup of my Evernote content - just in case...

  9. Not guaranteed,  but it is a process that Support will have you going through before they'll look for any other issues,  so it's worth doing when you have some time.  The only drawback is that Evernote needs to build back its local infrastructure in the background when the reinstall is complete,  so you'll have about 80% performance for the next week or so (depending on how much you use the app).

    - Here's a short version of the full process:

Sign out of Evernote / don't save your data locally / use Revo Uninstaller Free (Win) or Appcleaner (Mac) to uninstall the app.  Power off and back on,  then re-download and reinstall from Evernote.com and leave Evernote running to rebuild the local data.  The new install is still initially a little slow - things get better after a few days.

(I'll move this discussion to the Web group too)
