  1. From what I can see, this particular thread was just created 20 hours ago ...? Agree ... still waiting patiently (as in "expect it never") for thumbnail choice 🙂
  2. I believe the issue the OP is stating is related to the Thumbnail image for the Note that is shown in the List View is not being updated when the image inside the Note is changed/replaced. (please correct me if I am wrong) Steps to Recreate the "Non-Updated Thumbnail" Issue: 1. Create a new Note, add only ONE image (call this Image A), close Note (i.e. switch to another Note), then check the Note in the List View and will see the thumbnail for Image A. 2. Edit the previous Note, delete the image, close Note, then check the Note in the List View and will see that there is no thumbnail displayed. 3. Edit the previous Note again, add a different ONE image (call this Image B), close Note, then check the Note in the List View and will see that the thumbnail is for the WRONG image - it is now showing the original Image A in the thumbnail, not the new image B that is now in the Note. As a (crappy/not efficient) workaround, I create a Duplicate of the Note, which will now have the thumbnail for the new Image B. If required, I recreate all the backlinks to the duplicated Note, then delete the original Note. As I said this is a crappy and very inefficient workaround, but it does correct the thumbnail issue. Note: For me, this non-updated Thumbnail issue has been around for quite some time (since the beginning of v10). And this issue occurs in Windows Desktop, iOS iPad, and iOS iPhone versions of the v10 app. In previous V6, I was able to do some kludgy things with my images in a Note to manipulate/force which thumbnail is used for the Note. Alas, beginning with v10, I can no longer do those things.
  3. @PinkElephant -Please see my updated post for "Edit 3" ... I think I have fixed the issue for my situation - yes it was my choice to still use legacy EN on computer ... and now I see the error of my ways and have permanently changed over to the latest EN 10.x version.
  4. EDIT 3: ... I think I've figured it out and fixed the issue for my situation. I have been running the legacy EN Desktop version on my Windows computer .. I finally bit the bullet and permanently switched over to the latest EN Desktop version today. I believe my "Date Last Updated" issue was caused in some way as a result of the new Sync process implemented earlier this year and that the legacy app still used the old Sync process. Here is what I did -- installed latest Windows Desktop release on my computer - went in via my computer app and touched/viewed every Note in every Notebook (I'm only partway done with this, but I've done about 600 Notes so far) - after each Note was viewed, the "Date Last Updated" was changed to current date - this occurred for about 95% of the Notes I touched/viewed - closed down my Desktop app - opened iOS app on my iPad - waited for full sync to occur - then switched to different Notebooks (that were "fixed via touch") and viewed various Notes & Voila! now the Date Last Updated is not being changed just by viewing! Yay! EDIT 2: Nope ... issue is still occurring alot -- open a Notebook view, click a Note for view, click [back] to get back to the view, the viewed Note now has the "green sync" in the top right corner and date last updated was changed. EDIT 1: Hmmmm .maybe it's fixed for me, but still need to do more testing, sometimes it doesn't do it and sometimes it does .. I logged out of the iOS app on my iPad and logged back in (I usually never log out so maybe that was holding my app back from being actually fully updated...?) Previous comment: Gee I wish it was fixed for me ... I always update to the latest versions of EN and iOS before I test the issue ... issue is currently still happening today (Nov 29) on my iPad with EN 10.61.0 with iOS 17.1.1.
  5. UPDATE: ... I think I've figured it out and fixed the issue for my situation. I have been running the legacy EN Desktop version on my Windows computer .. Yay! ORIGINAL POST: I reported this issue as a Ticket to Support on May 6 2023 - it is now Nov 29 2023 and there is still no resolution - On June 7 2023, support indicated to me that this is a known issue. My last request for an update was submitted to Evernote Support on Nov 21 2023, but I have yet to get any response at all (probably due to the Support Restructuring going on). Issue: The Date Last Updated is being changed when I just View a Note. I consider this a serious issue with major impacts to the content management process. Viewing and Editing a Note are core and basic features that I would expect to be working as designed. This issue happens on both my iOS tablet as well as my iOS phone. As of Nov 21 the issue is getting even worse with the latest iOS software updates (I am running the latest Evernote and iOS OS versions on an iPad Pro 12.9 (2021) and an iPhone 12: Additional Issue 1: The Date Last Updated value gets changed to the current date for the first Note displayed in the View when I open a particular Notebook - I haven’t even tapped on any note in the view yet. Additional issue 2: I have the “Edit Protection” setting enabled - however many times, my Notes are automatically put into edit mode when just single tapping on a place in a Note - which then also causes the Date Late Updated value to be changed to the current date. Evernote Support Response History: -- Response June 27 2023: My name is Jonathan with Technical Support and I will be taking your case from here. I have read over your correspondence, and I am familiar with the issue. At the moment I do not have an update. But I will bring this issue up with the product team to see if we can get some traction on it. To be honest I thought this would have been fixed by now. Hopefully soon. -- Response Aug 7 2023: As per checking, this issue was already escalated by the previous support who assisted you. And I can see that this issue is still under investigation and our engineering team is currently working on a fix. We are really sorry for the trouble that this brings you. I know how this affects your workflow and I will put this to urgent concerns so they can prioritize it. -- Response Oct 11 2023: I understand that you would like to follow-up on the issue you've previously reported with us. I appreciate your extended patience and understanding this matter. Please be advised that you continue to experience the problem for the reason that it's a known issue that we're still fixing right now. Until a version update with the permanent fix has been implemented, please expect that the problem remains present in your app. Also, I wanted to let you know that our team is doing their best to address and fix all the raised bugs on the new Evernote app. In addition, while Evernote is still a developing application, please also know that our team is working on continuously improving the app to become a better platform for all of its users.
  6. UPDATE (10 minutes later) magically the issue is gone - I can now edit my notes (I did not do anything other than close and reopen the app on my iPhone). GRRRR! I am also having the same issue on my iPhone 12 with all Notes in “View Only” mode - will try log off/on and will submit support ticket if still an issue.
  7. Not a solution to the main issue you are having, but there is the option to install the "Legacy" desktop version to get back to an EN that works "as expected". The Legacy desktop version can be installed and run along side of the V10 desktop version on a computer. I highly recommend that you only have one or the other version open at any time on your Mac to prevent conflicts. Legacy version info: https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/360052560314-Install-an-older-version-of-Evernote
  8. I agree. The really weird thing though is that the web version also works correctly so it's something very specific to how how V10 is implemented on desktop. @agsteele Can you please post a link to your issue you reported? I did a quick search and could not find it. I also posted an issue on EN IOS forum for the wrong thumbnail image in snippet view: https://discussion.evernote.com/forums/topic/133126-thumbnailsnippet-view-image-not-being-refreshed-correctly-when-image-replaced-in-note-for-ios-devices/ @Mike P @agsteele I am noticing the wrong thumbnail image seems to be IOS specific for me in that it is only wrong on the IOS device (iPad or iPhone) where I originally created the new Note. So, for example a new Note via iPhone (v10) will continue to show the wrong/original thumbnail, but the iPad (v10), Web (v10), and Windows Desktop (v6 oirg), after a sync, will change to the "correct" image based on whatever algorithm is used by EN to pick the thumbnail (which is not necessarily the same on every device, but that's a whole other issue).
  9. I agree with wanting to be able specify a different location for EN on Windows. At the very least, i would want to specify where the data part is to be located. I don’t mind the program being installed on my local C drive. But I like to have all my data stored on a secondary internal SSD drive which has lots of storage space. My C drive is a minimal sized SSD drive so I want to keep this reserved for programs only, which typically do not grow (too much) in size over time. Having the data on my larger sized secondary drive gives the repository room to grow over time.
  10. From what I have seen, the difference is how the link to the EN note is built, what protocol it uses. It’s how/where you want the link to open, not about what device your are on. The “App Link” uses the internal “evernote://“ link address protocol and the “Web Link” uses the standard web “http://“ link address protocol. So, for example, when I want to link one internal note to another internal note and have the link open up inside the EN app when I click on it, I use the AppLink option. When I want to have the link open up in an external web browser page, I would use the Web Link option. I should note that I have only used the App Link option under v10 for my purposes.
  11. I am using iOS EN v10 on both my iPhone 12 and iPad Pro 10.5 (2017). I am in EN multiple times per day on one or the other device and I find the performance very tolerable. In fact, I even noticed a bit of an improvement with the recent 10.3 release. I have over 2,000 Notes in my app and use the search feature quite often, with reasonable performance.
  12. Due to the ongoing issues, I am very conscientious to always shut down the EN client when done with a session. I don’t leave any client running if not using it. I always make sure there is only one device running the client at a time. The most recent conflicts just happened a couple hours ago. For sure the client on my iPad was the only one runnning at that time. As I mentioned, the conflicts happened within 1 minute of editing the doc on a single device, with no other client running. That is why I think it has to do with the fact that since the database is no longer local, the sync is happening in real time over the network back to their server and one edit stepped on the other resulting in the conflict.
  13. The duplicating issue is actually conflict Notes that are being created while doing edits on a single device. For example, I’ll be editing a Note on my iPad. I go in, make some changes, click the save check mark, then the arrow to return to the view. Then I’ll go right back in to the same note, make more changes, then save and return to view. When I go back in for the third time, the note now tells me there is a conflict note, the edit time difference between the two notes is 1 minute. My guess is that the first edit event had not yet synched back to the server when I started the second edit event, so a conflict was generated when the second edit got synced overtop of the first edit. I usually try to make sure the green “needing to be synched” indicator in the corner is gone (by swiping down several times) before going back in to edit, so not sure why this happened. Lesson learned is to wait a few minutes before editing the same note in succession. BTW, on my Windows desktop, I never did upgrade to v10, so I am still running the original v6.25 with the green icon.
  14. Thanks very much for your response. I have already done a “deep” uninstall job on my iPad as you described (delete app+data/i-device completely off with soft reset/wait/back on/install/sync completely). This solved a sync issue I had but the four corrupted Notes are still there. I’m not too concerned about them at this time. I only found them purely by accident when I did a search; they do not show up in a view, only in search results and only on my iOS devices. My main concern is how many other hidden corrupted Notes do I have that I cannot ever hope to find...???
  15. I understand that we have no control over which image in a Note is used for the Thumbnail/Snippet View (there is some internal algorithm that determines which one to use). However, starting with iOS v10, there is an issue where the Thumbnail/Snippet View image is not being refreshed correctly when the only image in the Note is deleted and a new one is added. I am currently running with iOS v10.3 on an iPhone 12 and iPad 10.5 2017 and both have latest iOS 14.3 on them, but this issue was happening with the previous iOS 10.x versions as well. Steps to recreate the issue: Create a new Note with one image in it, we shall call this “Image A”. Save and close out of the note, I switch back to the All notes view Result: Thumbnail shows for Image A in the iOS view [see first pic attached] Delete the image from the note, so there is no longer an image in it. Save and close out of the note, I switch back to the All Notes view Result: Thumbnail goes away/is blank in the iOS view [see second pic attached] Add a new image in the note, we shall call this “Image B”. Save and close out of the note, I switch to the All Notes view Expected Result: Thumbnail shows for Image B in the iOS view *Actual Result: Thumbnail shows for Image A in the iOS view - and this image is not in the Note any more [see third pic attached] *It should be noted that the Thumbnail correctly shows for Image B in the Windows Legacy view (I don’t use Win v10). However, the iOS v10 view thumbnail does not get changed as expected. Update Jan 18 2021: Additional Info I am noticing the wrong thumbnail image seems to be IOS specific for me in that it is only wrong on the IOS device (iPad or iPhone) where I originally created the new Note.
  16. Wow, count yourself lucky. I’m glad the new version 10 is working for you without any issues. However, there are many people, like myself, who are experiencing major issues, such as lost or corrupted data, or erroneously duplicated data, or broken workflow processes due to significantly reduced functionality (which have been well documented in these forums). I do like the new version overall and have hope that things will continue to get better. However I’m struggling right now with the integrity of my data, and therein lies my issue with EN version 10. I have spent a significant number of hours (months and months) collecting and refining my data in EN on a daily basis. I am having trouble with my data being corrupted. For example, the very first version of iOS 10.0 caused over 100 erroneously duplicated records within the first 10 minutes of doing edits after the upgrade, and these were hard to find. EN got this particular issue fixed in the next release (thank goodness), but I still have 4 phantom Notes that cannot be deleted. Now, even with iOS v10.3, I continue to get duplicated records periodically, when only doing edits on a single device. Therefore, I must be very diligent to constantly check my Notes count so I can catch these duplicates in a timely manner as there is no easy way to find them. I also have to keep using the legacy version on my Windows computer so I can easily do daily backups of my data in HTML format so I at least have my data in a human readable format in case I need to recover it.
  17. Hi there. I am also experiencing this same issue on my iOS device. FYI: I added a post to the Issues Forum:
  18. I am not able to find matches on an exact phrase when searching on iOS device (iPad 10.5 with latest version) using EN 10.3. Using quotation marks around the phrase does not work as expected. For example, a search for "texture foam stamp" finds Notes with all three words anywhere in them, but does not narrow the results to only those with an exact match to the phrase of the three words together in the sequence specified. So I get the same number of results for the search criteria, no matter if quotes are used or not. I did a search of the forums and did not see this issue documented for the 10.x code base.
  19. Yes. I have EN 10.x iOS on both my iPhone and iPad as well as running EN Legacy on my Windows PC. I just make sure that I have fully synced after an editing session on any one device and close the session out (not leave it running in the background) - this is me being cautious so as to prevent sync conflicts. I do regular backups, by notebook, from the Windows EN Legacy app.
  20. @Alxa, you are a genius! Thanks so much for this hidden gem on how to trigger an automated export/backup of all Notebooks, by Notebook, using EN Legacy!!!! I am still running the original EN V6 (green icon) version on Windows (never did the "upgrade" to V10 so no need to install the Legacy (gray icon) version). I've been using EN for over 5 years and never new about this automated export/backup method. I logged off EN and then used <CTRL+SHIFT+E> at the login screen, selected my account, and off it went and created the individual ENEX files for the 28 Notebooks I have - and it was completed in a couple minutes. WOW, so much easier and faster than the tedious manual export to ENEX by individual Notebook process I did the other day (which took about 30 minutes). What a timesaver and now I can easily and quickly create ENEX backups on demand. I also continue to do an export to HTML so I have a human-readable format backup available. NOTE: Something to note for Notebooks that are in a Stack is that the Stack name is not included in the exported ENEX file name (e.g. "MISC/MyResearch" Notebook in EN = "MyResearch.enex" file in file folder). Not a big deal as I can easily recreate the Stack by manually creating a subfolder and moving the associated enex files to that subfolder. However, many not be something I want to have to do very often. Probably I'll just keep a text document that keeps the master list of Stacks and Notebooks.
  21. Agreed, if EN had simply a) effectively communicated in ADVANCE of what they were doing and what was/was not included for the initial roll-out and b) gave people the CHOICE to upgrade to V10 or not on Windows & Mac (I know you can only have one version of Android and iOS) ... I don't think we would have seen so many of the postings over what we all unexpectedly received. Note: Some people may argue that there was communication before they rolled it out, but I didn't get anything pushed to me as a paying customer.
  22. FYI I posted a v10 feature request for a conflicts view: https://discussion.evernote.com/forums/topic/132858-provide-a-view-to-easily-find-notes-with-conflicts/
  23. I have the latest iOS 10.2.x on my iPhone. I am having an issue of Conflict Notes being created and want a way to easily find them. I need a view so I can easily find the Notes that have conflicts so I can handle getting rid of the duplicate/conflict notes. I understand how conflicts could occur when editing the same note on two different devices. I have had less than 5 of these occur in the last 4 years of using Evernote on a daily basis with 3 devices (iPhone, iPad, Windows). However, these latest conflicts are occurring within minutes of editing a note more than one time on the same device (my iPhone usually). I have had these type of conflicts being created more than 10 times just during the month of December 2020. I realize this issue will be hard to resolve by EN, so not expecting this issue to go away any time soon. Now just looking for an easy way to find the conflicts so I can clean them up. My guess is that it may have something to do with using search, opening a note from list, making changes in it, and then opening an internal note link, and then opening another internal note link that takes me back to the original note that was opened from the search list and making more changes to it. Note: I am very conscientious about not leaving the EN app in background and always shutting it down when done with my current session. I don't open EN on a device until I am sure it is not running on any of my other devices. I also force a sync before doing any editing.
  24. Oh yippee (sarcasm here), good to know it’s not just me who is having this issue on iOS of random duplication of notes when editing them on a single device. Wish they had a view to show just Notes with Conflicts so I can easily find the duplicates.
  25. Ah, but they did release the product with this bug. Here is a direct quote from the blog post on Dec 10 2020 from Ian Small CEO: “In the earliest versions of our releases, for example, some customers saw their notes repeatedly duplicated while they were editing them.“
