Thank you @Jon/t for your explanations of a process that I wasn't aware of, it makes a lot more sense to me now.

Unfortunately, I still don't understand why I'm no longer able to choose which versions I want to install/not install like was possible in Legacy (and for pretty much every other app on PCs today).

It's a modern style of software development. Most new software follows this style. A few examples that I use or have used: Chrome/Firefox, 1Password, Microsoft To Do, Visual Studio Code, and more. They tend to be smaller and more focused software programs. Huge legacy programs like Microsoft Office and the Adobe suite are more conservative and slower with their updates.

For those of us that create a lot of text in our notes and edit our notes for business training (our group has 700+ users of legacy), we have not switched from Legacy bc the current version seems to be missing several features that were present in the legacy version.
    1. The big one: there is no spell correct, auto correct.
    2. the choices of fonts is minimal compared to the wide range of fonts available in legacy
    3. the choices of font sizes are also very limited. In legacy, you could literally choose any font size in incremental steps from six all the way up to very large sizes.
    4. The color choices for text.... limited. Legacy even has a color wheel where you can create any color you would like.

Obviously, now the legacy is being discontinued, we will be forced to go to the new newest version. But does anyone have any insight on my comments? Am I missing something? I noticed that most the people in this thread are incredibly sophisticated users and what I've used Evernote for in my 5000 notes is more basic. Almost half the notes have an attached audio file 4 minutes or less in length.

    Any comments would be appreciated

    As requested, some comments:

    1. I have spelling check as I write. I get red squiggly lines under misspelled words. It's an option in settings. Do you not have it or are you referring to something else?
    image.png.bec09b02b565a8c3992e84a42d1482b3.png

    2. Yes, this was a big complaint during the initial v10 launch. Perhaps it would help to understand the justification - Evernote chose to prioritize cross-platform compatibility during the development of v10. You may or may not be aware that many popular fonts are proprietary, and so are not available on all platforms that Evernote supports or may wish to support in the future. The current, limited, set of fonts will render correctly on desktop and mobile regardless of the underlying operating system.

    3. No real comment here, except to mention that people who need advanced word processing capabilities sometimes choose to write in Microsoft Word (or whatever) and then attach the document inside Evernote if they want the document to live in EN.

    4. I'm speculating somewhat, but I imagine it's similar reason to #2 - color representations differ by platform. Also, perhaps simply a desire to simplify a little bit.

Not sure if that helps too much, but those are the comments I have!

I wasn't signed up for any beta lists and luckily I've had the option to connect the calendar of my business Microsoft account to Evernote since yesterday. When linking the account, Evernote asks for the user credentials of the business account and is therefore independent of the email address with which you operate the Evernote account.

Per Federico on Twitter as of yesterday 50% of Evernoters have received access to Outlook integration. It'll probably ramp up to 100% next week.

Thanks for the upgrade link. I've been burned a few times with the Evernote manual download.

My 2024 Evernote Version History (might have missed a few)
    Date Version
    2/29 10.71.2
    2/27 10.773.3
    2/22 10.76.2
    2/16 10.75.2
    1/31 10.71.2
    1/30 10.73.4
    1/23 10.72.2

You're welcome. Thanks for providing the additional detail, though I find your version history to be a bit odd. It looks like you received progressively newer versions from 1/23 to 2/27, but then on 2/29 you went backwards to an older version. Any idea why? Did you do anything different on that day?

FWIW, I was on 10.77.x until this morning, when I was auto-updated to:

    10.78.2-mac-ddl-public (20240227143346)
    Editor: v177.5.0
    Service: v1.94.2

When I use the - Help - Check for Updates, I receive the following info:

              You’re up to date!

Evernote 10.71.2 is currently the newest version available.

Have you restarted Evernote recently? Restarted your computer recently? You should be more up-to-date than that.

That's positively antediluvian (thank you for giving me an opportunity to use that word by the way ;)) but it's standard for the usual app roll-out process.  If I have any issues these days I just re-download the latest version from Evernote.com and install immediately - I'm bound to be at least one behind!

I've never seen someone fall more than about two versions behind without something having gone wrong in the auto-update process. @jbenson2 is about 7 updates behind, so if they don't get updated soon (particularly after restarting the app and perhaps even their computer) I recommend they go to https://evernote.com/download and download the latest version there.

Another issue I just came across with V10/Mac current version:

When I clip a webpage and want to open it in the app the thumbnail shows the correct contents albeit small ;-).

    image.jpeg.e30e48ff7033f8a28d0df04afe070f43.jpeg

The note itself is almost empty, just a frame around more or less nothing.

    image.thumb.jpeg.4fa510c2de57e4412f0979afa430c1ab.jpeg

This doesn't get better over time (waited for the rest to sync).

I have experienced this web clipping issue several times recently. It's frustrating. The Web clipper has not been updated in months, they removed a specific feature for clipping Gmail emails 6 months ago and haven't commented / won't tell me whether it's going to come back.

I get the sense that most development resources are currently focused on the desktop app and back-end infrastructure. I hope they return to maintaining the Web clipper soon.

I did the same and didn't get 10.78 either, just 10.77.3.

However: it seems to have solved the problem for me. It seems to work consistently now.

    See my other note:

Since clicking on the link above seems to take you to the thread, not to the specific post, here the gist of it:

When I tried this yesterday it was inconsistent for me and there's no visual feedback to confirm that you've clicked the right things. I'm guessing there's still no visual feedback, but are you saying it's working consistently for you now? At least that's a step in the right direction, if so.

I'll have to let someone with more technical knowledge than I have answer that. To me, almost any technical explanation would be more reasonable than:

Agreed. 403 has a specific meaning in web server parlance, but anytime something goes wrong in the logic of web app 403 is a common resulting error. As a result it's really a bit of a generic error and it's not a good idea to draw any major conclusions from it.

2024-03-23 old clients are switched off. Only the new v.10 will work .. and this will probably also disable the old API for old clients.

But the new API will continue to run according to me....

This info is just some confusing complication of what is about to happen...

Where's the new API documented versus the old API? Last time I looked into it, which was probably a couple of months ago, all I could find was a single (old) API.

I followed his advice and downloaded all my relevant stuff to my local iphone and ipad.

Again, I'm talking about the full Evernote client, for macOS, not Evernote for mobile... I'm not interested in downloading my entire database to mobile. I want to use it reliably on my laptop, like I could with Evernote legacy, while disconnected.

What was the approximate date when you dealt with "first versions of v. 10"? About 3 years ago, right? And it was a mess. I avoided it for a year or two, and then gradually began experimenting with the Web version. If you haven't seen a recent version of Evernote 10, please don't judge it by v. 10.1.

Couple of weeks ago I couldn't open older notes in v10 for desktop when I was flying without internet access. v10 has never given me a warm and fuzzy feeling about offline capabilities. People who depend on offline functionality are right to be cautious, IMHO.

I don't use search so often (I organize my notes/projekts in other ways), but yes, there is a new search box popping up when you try to write in the search field.

Great! Hopefully this fixes the double-click to search problem. I wonder if the "search term not highlighted" issue when using the keyboard shortcut to go to the search box is also fixed? 🤔

Yes.  It does work.  Before your trip you need to make sure that your notes are locally stored.  This is a somewhat annoying process where you need to keep the active screen of the ipad or iphone (or whatever you use) open as you download the data to your local source.  In my case I de-activated the feature that turns the screen off and I selected the notebooks that I wanted to download.  You will see a little icon which indicates which notebooks are stored locally.  You can google the specific instructions (it's very easy).  It does work.

I'm talking about the desktop (macOS) app, as we're discussing this in the context of the legacy desktop app being sunsetted... Whether it's a bug or whatever it absolutely did not work for me the one time in recent memory that I needed it.

  14. 10 hours ago, Jon/t said:

Yes. It has everything offline so if you have no wifi you can access notes.

What is doesn't have is local-only notebooks which are not on the cloud.

Have you tested this successfully? I was on a flight the other day with no WiFi and I tried accessing some notes older than about a year and they would not load. I don't need offline access often but it's disappointing to be in that situation where a feature should "just work" and then it doesn't.

Back in the before v-10 days I traveled and was away from internet access much more and the legacy app was rock solid in that regard (except for note conflicts, those were a pain, but simply reading notes offline was always rock solid).

Working for me - I'm on the latest version 10.77.3

Can you elaborate on this? Because in recent memory it hasn't worked for me, especially when I have attachments set to display as "Title" or "Single Page" (which is most of the time for me).

Valid point. It was actually a short note. I repeated the process on a long note (5873 words). I searched for the word data of which there were 84 occurrences, well scattered through the note. The note did jump back to the top which is obviously your concern. However the numbering was correct for the next occurrence of the word after the cursor (38 of 84). If you scroll down that is also the highlighted one. Hitting enter (or the right arrow in the dialogue box) will jump to the next occurrence (39 of 84). You would then need to use the back arrow to go back to 38. I can't think of a way of going directly to the next occurrence.

I agree with you that the jumping back to the top of the note is unhelpful. I do think though that using the arrows in the Find window to progress through the results, starting from the second(!!) result after the cursor, significantly reduces the pain. I do wish there was a way of jumping directly to the first result after the cursor.

Good workaround Mike. In testing this I noticed that the arrow keys don't jump through the find results on macOS - they simply scroll through the find text box so I have to use the mouse.

Also, am I the only one driven crazy by Evernote not following the standard convention to highlight the previous search term when using the keyboard shortcut to jump back to the find (or search) box? As far as I can remember, every app I've ever used follows a standard convention of highlighting the search term so that it can be more easily deleted and replaced with a new search term. Since the first release of V10 Evernote no longer does this (it did it on Legacy) and it drives me bonkers.

    Hello,

I have a PDF as an attachment to a note that I edit once a week. I've had this attachment that I edit for several years now. This past Tuesday, I edited the PDF, saved it and exited Evernote. When I now look at the note, the attachment is gone! The note is there and the date of update is correct but there is no attachment. When I look at the note history, there is an entry for previous version that appears to be the correct date & time but when I restore it, the attachment is "Untitled Attachment" and it does not open! Can anyone please help me recover the attachment?

    Regards,

    Peter Gil

What version of Evernote are you running? I've been hit with this bug (or similar bug) multiple times, albeit not in several months so I had hoped it was fixed. It's possible that EN support may be able to recover the lost file
