  1. I wasn't aware there used to be a shortcut to do a fresh search but I can see why you might want it. This reminds me of another small irritation that hasn't been changed since v10 launched, and that is the previous search term is not selected when using a keyboard shortcut. In most applications, invoking the search function will select the previous search term so that it's automatically deleted if one types in a new search term. In Evernote, one must first delete the old term before typing in a new term.

    A continuous background Sync ?

No way, it’s even not allowed for system apps like the camera roll. Beside consuming battery, these are data hogs as well.

The camera roll stops syncing fotos with iCloud when pushed into the background. What does work are snippets of data, like for push messages.

Not continuously, but periodically, which is still useful. That way when the app is launched there is less to sync and the user can get back to their work faster. Using WorkManager an app can request to periodically check in and sync the latest updates. To conserve battery life, the OS decides when to allow this and bundles multiple app requests together so that the CPU can be quiet and radio powered down in-between updates. When the phone is on unmetered WiFi and charging, it will sync more frequently. When on battery and mobile data, it will sync less frequently.

On iOS, an app can update once or twice an hour using a background notification. There are other APIs as well, that is just one example.

There's even a user setting so users can allow or disallow individual apps to be refreshed in the background:

    Sure.

All phone companies try to assure that the phone will survive a day without the need for a recharge. To assure this, both mobile OSes will kill background tasks that run without user interaction, after a brief time span.

The OS is the boss, managing all apps. If the boss decides to kill an app, so it does.

Only very meager services that the OS allows will escape this concept. A full notes app has no chance.

While it's true that mobile OS's exert a lot of influence to maintain battery life, it's not true that "A full notes app has no chance." A properly designed app can be designed to perform some background syncing. On Android, for example, an app can use WorkManager to manage background sync. I'm less familiar with iOS (which historically has been stricter than Android when it comes to background apps) but I believe there is a way to do something similar. The apps just have to be coded to use the features allowed by the OS.

I'll add that the clip as Article produces an exact copy of the Email from my Gmail account. I'm actually not sure what is supposedly missing.

As stated above, this only seems to work for individual emails, not for long email threads, which is where the web clipper really shines. Out of a long thread the clipper would allow me to choose the specific emails that are important to save and save them all in one go.

  5. I clipped a web page earlier today and it's very sluggish to open this note. Opens first with a white screen and "Saving..." in the lower-right. Then after a few seconds the content loads. Other notes load much faster so perhaps there's something about this clipped website that's causing it to load slowly?

Hi.  Don't see your details above,  so:  device / OS / Evernote app version / browser - and are we talking about the Google Workspace Marketplace clipper which appears on the Gmail page,  or the standard clipper which is installed in the browser?

The standard clipper,  I notice,  does a fine job of clipping all or part of an email content if you set it to 'multi select'.

Standard web clipper in Chrome for MacOs. I'll give multi select a try; thanks.

Hmmn..  About that...  Whelp; there's a Prime Day coming up soon and I need to sort out my account with the phone provider...   Thanks for the reminder!

The new Pixel 8 (shipping next week and currently available for pre-order) will have a guaranteed 7 years of software and security updates. If you use a traditional postpaid carrier plan in the USA it's available for "free" at all the major carriers, I believe. FYI!

...And just for the record,  my venerable Android 'phone that can't get updated past Evernote 8.13 is also wearing that big red 'Update Me' sticker.  I think the Forums might get a little busier in the next few days...

Hmmm, doesn't Evernote 10 now support Android 9 and later? If you're running Android 8.1 or earlier, your phone must be a bit of a security risk. Be very careful what you do on it (and perhaps time for an upgrade, if you can swing it.)

On the AppStore I never had any delay - and I don‘t think I am among „a chosen few“. Others using EN around me on iOS get it as well as soon as it is released, even the Free users.

App store certainly supports staged rollouts, though it's up to developers to use them. Overview here: https://developer.apple.com/help/app-store-connect/update-your-app/release-a-version-update-in-phases

Personally I think that Android for sure IS a different user group, for the diversity of devices and the infamous inability of many makers to keep the users on an actual or even recent OS level. So probably staging these rollouts makes sense.

Certainly it's possible that staged rollouts are more necessary / have become absolutely standard in the Android world due to the diversity of hardware/software and perhaps historically they were considered less necessary on iOS. Still possible to FUBAR any app update though, so I think it's good practice to stage rollouts no matter the platform.

Thanks, glad to hear this 👍

In what situations was it possible to lose data?

I don't have specific reproducible steps, but my experience with data loss in recent months involved trying to open a pdf embedded into an older note and having Evernote occasionally "eat" the pdf. I have also seen some posts of people losing text added to a new (or newly edited) note (while the app continued to claim "All changes saved" in the lower-right). Hopefully both of these issues are fixed. 🙏

To me, this sounds as if only criticisms of Evernote should be allowed here. Different things make sense to different people--but if one group says "I don't see the problem" the other group has the right to call them names and shut them down? People who have had bad experiences sometimes write here as if it is the only possible experience. Anyone who reports a different, better experience gets called a fanboy.

I think it's important to read the room and pick your moments. This thread is a feature request for a feature that a lot of people are passionate about. It's not a good look for people who don't see the value in the feature to make dismissive comments in a feature request thread. IMHO.

Thank you all for your answers, this is very useful for me.

If you voted "Strongly disagree" or "Somewhat disagree" and didn't write here why, please consider commenting below here, as it's super useful to surface the most frequent problems and help us prioritize correctly. We're aiming at solving everything, but since resources are not infinite prioritizing well is paramount.

I just replied to you in another thread, and my comment there succinctly summarizes my dissatisfaction with Evernote's reliability since the change to CRDT. I experienced sync conflicts in the past, and those were extremely annoying, but I never had notes randomly deleting information like I have since the switch to CRDT:

    @Sarah Jeans

For missing content issues anybody should please DM me:

    • Note URL of some affected notes
    • Client logs (Help > Activity Logs > Save As...)
    • Timestamp (what time did this happen, more or less?)

Just happened again, in the .7 point release. Tried to open a PDF in a note that was first created five years ago, after an error message and flashing dialog boxes that opened and closed too quickly to read, the PDF eventually opened, but it deleted itself from my note, leaving the below:

    image.png.dea8152650bc3203ffe19023af0e7a20.png

Are there any bug fixes between .7 and .10 to address this issue? Because this is frankly getting a little tiresome. This is a more sensitive than average note, so I'm not inclined to send over that URL and logs this time, unfortunately.

Since this happened my Evernote, auto updated to the .10 release, but that didn't bring the note attachment back. Fortunately, I saved it separately and will be able to replace it myself.
