When you say the issue hasn't returned, do you mean your gmail clipping is working again?  I've tried the items you mentioned and can't get it back.  It looks like I'm back to email forwarding for a while.

No, it means the general issues I was having with Gmail (such a reconnecting... message frequently appearing at the top) hasn't re-appeared. But that could also be related to clearing my cache and cookies so I'm not sure the extension had anything to do with it. I need to do more testing with the extension back on to see if it reoccurs.

Gmail clipping still doesn't work, unfortunately. I'm re-opening a support case I previously had going regarding the web clipper. Suggest anyone else who cares about that function to also report it, otherwise it may not get any attention.

  2. Darn. I sent feedback to Google and suggest anyone experiencing issues with Gmail does the same. Click the button labeled "?" in the top-right of the Gmail screen, then click "Send feedback to Google." Describe the issue in detail.

FWIW, in addition to clearing cache/cookies, I've tried disabling all extensions except for Web Clipper and it still occurs. I've also tried disabling all extensions including web clipper, and the issue hasn't occurred since (though I need to use Gmail for longer and test further to be sure). If that holds true, then it's possible that Evernote may need to update something on the web clipper to fix this.

  3. I've been experiencing weirdness with Gmail in general the last couple of days. And this morning the clipper is no longer offering "Gmail" as an option, even through the web clipper hasn't been updated since March 4th (so likely due to a change on the Gmail side, or perhaps in Chrome). There's a Chrome update downloading now and I will test further after it installs.

The first response was automatic and generic. The ticket said I should respond with more information.
    My answer was:
Detailed description: everything was explained in the ticket. And I am pretty sure (as others) that the problem is related to the new collapse/uncollapse bullet list feature.
Platforms on which you're experiencing the issue: Windows
Activity logs: you do not need. Just fix the bullet list feature, please.

If anyone wants to really make sure that an overtaxed support department truly understands the issue, here's my suggestion:

Create a dummy note with generic text and lots of bullets / sections, make sure there are sufficient collapsible sections to have truly awful performance. Share it publicly, then send the link to support. It will immediately be very clear to them.

I recently started to use the web clipper on gmails.  Never did before until I saw a posting by another user.  It worked surprisingly well.  I wonder if they plan on letting the gmail specific integration sunset and instead have users use this.  Just speculating.  It doesn't make sense to me to have the ability in two separate integrations.

The browser-based (desktop) web clipper works better for clipping Gmails, but the benefit of the Gmail integration is that it also works on mobile. So they both have their uses.

That's just ... running away from the problem. Wouldn't people just voice their grievances on X instead?

And it'd be worse because then Evernote's PR releases on X will be peppered with negative comments, hurting Evernote's image.

Speaking for myself, I don't recall any threads that Federico participated becoming toxic, but perhaps I missed it. Still, my speculation is the recent focus on Twitter is to attract a different kind of user and potentially get exposure to people who don't currently use EN or formerly used EN, neither of which are likely to be spending much time on these forums.

Found my alternative to Evernote. It's UpNote.

It does the job for what I need. and only $25 for life, one time cost. I have slowly started migrating and so far it's working great.

Any app which sells a lifetime license is living on borrowed time. Fine for certain things where I could get some value for a few years and not be overly fussed when the app inevitably shuts down or a new incompatible version is launched. But, for something as important as my notes and knowledge repository that's just too risky for me.

Because there are millions of users (still) and a simultaneous download - even over 24 hours - would crash the site.  Updates are released to groups of users over weeks.  Anyone can go to Evernote.com and individually download the latest version if they wish.

It's a very minor issue in the grand scheme of things but best practice is to allow the small number of users who know/care to individually opt in to the latest updates by checking for updates.

This also allows support reps dealing with customers to more easily ask them to update to solve a bug they may be experiencing. The remaining 99+% of users can slowly get the rollout over the course of a week as per usual.

I don't think it makes any sense to have a "check updates" button/function that doesn't work, but mostly just gives a false impression that your software is up-to-date.

    Exactly.

    hint:  It's on page 2, 1st column, 11 down.

Worked perfectly in Legacy (I'm still bitter)

I'm hopeful that the new Files feature that is slowly rolling out will add this functionality soon. Fingers crossed.

When I go to the history, I can recover the previous weeks version but the current wee's version has the "untitled attachment" that will not open in Acrobat. Is the untitled attachment file the one that was saved locally?

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. This used to be a more frequent bug that impacted me a few times. If the edits are important and hard to recreate, you could contact support and they may be able to recover the file for you (they were able to recover for me once). Support can be slow to respond lately. Either way it's worth reporting to support so that they can be aware that there might still be some bugs with PDF handling.

I once also received the "saved locally" message and I believe I was able to find the file in my Evernote cache. on Mac it was in $user/Library/Application Support/Evernote/. On Windows it might be in C:\Users\<your-login-name>\AppData\Roaming\Evernote\ (maybe others can confirm; I don't have a Windows PC with Evernote.)

    Good luck.

I restarted my Mac and just got the truncated menu bar with features I use regularly now stashed under the More button. (v10.79.3 for Mac)

UGH! I hope they do revert back to the menu that expands for more options the wider the window is, like before. Eagerly waiting for the next update to see...

    10.79.3-mac-ddl-public (20240307101007)
    Editor: v177.6.1
    Service: v1.95.0

I'm still on 10.79.2 but I'm also seeing some weirdness with the width of text. Not only with the more/overflow menu, but body text of notes themselves now have a large margin on the left side when I make the window wide. I'm quite sure it's a bug and hopefully will be fixed in the next update.

I'm finding it actually way worse than just the prompt always appearing. Every time I type a slash, the menu pops up--and proceeds to narrow down options as I type letters! To see this in action type: either/or. Only after I type a punctuation mark or space does the 🤬 thing go away. Oops, not working on my personal growth there.

Not sure where I developed the habit, but I always place a space before and after using the slash e.g. "either / or." I guess that habit will serve me well with this change! I can see how it'd be annoying for people who don't use spaces, however.

I recently started having difficulty seeing indentation in tags in the hierarchy in the sidebar. Has it changed in the new UI vs older versions of the new UI or is just me?

Yeah, it definitely changed. It actually used to be worse early in the rollout of the new UI, with zero or virtually zero indentation (possibly a bug). The spacing of sub-tags has become a little slimmer with the new UI but it's a tricky balancing act.

For a great example, see the person who posted after you in this very thread - they have multiple levels of tag hierarchies with some long tag names and they can't see the full length of their tags in the sidebar. Their problem would be even worse if there were more spacing in the tag hierarchies. One of those situations where it's tough to please everyone. 🤷‍♂️

So I tried clearing the cache on my Chrome browser, used CCleaner also, tried Firefox, reinstalled the webclipper, updated Gmail and tried a separate computer.  Nothing is working.  I can forward the emails to Evernote but can not send it using the Gmail clip feature.

Are you using the Gmail add-on? That's stopped working, but the Evernote Web Clipper Browser Extension is working well as of 2 days ago. (Desktop only is the limitation).

I just use the add on button on gmail and click on it.  It doesn't work either on the gmail on the computer or gmail app on iphone.

Ok I think I understand, you're referring to the Evernote for Gmail Add-On, which works on both desktop and mobile, and which is distinct from the Evernote web clipper browser extension, which is only on desktop. (Evernote makes the terminology confusing, particularly on mobile.)

I'm also getting errors now, and removing and re-installing the add-on did not help. Suggest you report it to support.

As a workaround, the browser-based web clipper extension on desktop works nicely for clipping Gmail emails. It was also broken for 6+ months, but was recently updated and fixed a day or two ago.

  16. Happy to report that extension 7.35.0, which was released today for Chrome, has restored the email clipping option!

I did a couple of test clips and it seems to work well enough. This is a much smoother and faster option than using the Gmail extension, except for one thing: the clipper puts pdf attachments inside the HTML container without the usual PDF features, instead of attaching them outside the HTML container where they can be displayed like any other PDF inside Evernote.

This feature would be "perfect" if it put PDF attachments outside the HTML container, so that PDFs would be displayed normally.

I am getting the same error. I checked the extension version and it is 7.35.

Hmmm, that's not good. Make sure Chrome is up-to-date (go to the About Chrome menu option to check) and quit and restart the browser? If that doesn't work I would remove the extension, restart the browser, then add the extension back. Maybe reboot the computer for good measure. If none of that works, support will want to know.

One new capability doesn’t mean anything for another site.

That's not fair to say in this case. As I said above, web clipper development has essentially stalled for six months. So it wouldn't surprise me that today's update may add more than just the missing email function and could add fixes for many sites. At least, the OP should ensure they update to the latest extension version and test further before they report to support (because that's the first thing support will want to know, anyway).

It's so easy to develop it in modern UI design environments like Electron 😞

I'm not saying it's "hard" to do but do realize that when an application developer uses "native" APIs you get things like column sorting for "free." In Electron it has to be implemented manually. I do hope they add it, however. I would like to be able to sort by size.

    Dave,

your list is properly indented, as it should be. But look at the demo video: it reveals a major problem with the implementation, as it doesn't indent properly. Watch when "Book" or "Chapter 1" are expanded.

This is awful. I used outlining all my life (since the GrandView days) and haven't seen anything like this. The structure cannot be properly shown just by using different font sizes.

One could say: it will improve. Now look at the 3 year old problems in V10. There isn't much hope that it will improve.

And yes, I know, nobody needs that, I am in the 1%. Right.

It's been in beta testing and getting tweaks so let's see how it actually rolls out before we get too upset...
