(Archived) Evernote as main picture handler

Idea

Hi,

I love how ios handles the pictures attached to a note. you just click on one picture in the note - then you can browse trough all the pictures that are in that note. if something like that would be possible on the en desktop versions, i'd most likely would load all my photos to en, too.

Of course some basic functionality - such as diashow etc - would be to wish for - but its the idea of having everything in one place is the most important to me.

related to pictures i have some further questions, people that come across the topic might know or have an idea of:

1) is it possible to download all pictures from one note to a folder on the desktop?

2) will there be simple picture editing tools (turning, rezise etc...) integrated to en soon? skitch is great - but the opening in other app should not be necesssary for these most basic issues.

apart from that: love en for long before it was a webservice (i liked the old icon more by the way :) ) - and am delighted that it keeps getting even better.

Nice piece of trolling. Not taking the bait, tho'

I don't know what you mean by "trolling".

I was simply sharing what I learned last year when I was searching for a good photo gallery.

I'm not selling or recommending anything -- just making folks aware.

Each person can decide if those terms are acceptable.

For me, it was/is a deal-breaker.

Thanks! I don't know if we go that route, but I can see how it would be useful. At the very least for notes with pictures, it could be a nice way of finding that picture and being able to jump back into the context of the full note. Don't want to go too far down the path of being a photo gallery, but I see what you mean

Hmmn. Don't want to be negative, but why would you? Evernote have a much referred-to policy of not reinventing wheels, and being a photo library is a fairly specialised wheel. Just off the top of my head, Evernote doesn't offer any of this:

  • import pics directly from my phone/ camera
  • identify duplicates
  • edit pics or offer different photo effects
  • export pics in different resolutions
  • print photo-quality 8x4, 10x8 etc output
  • maintain and update a web-based picture library

-Whereas the perfectly free (but it's Google) Picassa does. And Picassa keeps track of all my pictures but couldn't do so if they were stored in Evernotes.

I do use Evernote for pics that I want to be able to find again by search, so profile pics, logos, illustrations etc can wind up there. But I prefer the scope of a full-on photo manager for serious pics. And the ones I store in EN tend to be smaller copies of the (usually very large) original files. There is (or was) also a lower usage limit on hi-def pictures in Evernote which would limit your traffic. Now I have a DSLR camera I routinely take 100's of pictures - well, lots anyway - which would kill my usage limits pretty quickly..

(I'm using Picassa above as an example, not recommending particularly.)

In Evernote you can download all pictures in a note to the desktop - click and drag. (Not tried with multiple selections, but it should work..)

It seem unlikely that there will be anything resembling a picture editor. Resize and rotation might come in, purely for cosmetic purposes in notes.

Sorry to be mainly negative, but you did ask.

:)

Are you guys aware that when you store your photos in Picasa, you are giving Google a license to use and display your photos wherever they like?

Here's a quote from the Google Terms of Service:

11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.

That's OK with me. I use Flickr. But those terms don't bother me for my family photos.
