Support for Android 8

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Yesterday I updated my Windows PC to Evernote 10.
Since then I can't use Evernote properly on the Android 8 device.

For example, I see a checklist on Android without checkboxes.
Instead of the checkbox, I see a dot in front of each line.
Can anyone tell me where I can find information on the Android versions supported by Evernote here on the website?

Everything worked fine on Android until the PC was updated.

On PC, I noticed that Evernote 10 has a very high ram usage compared to the previous version.

Thanks.

It is very simple: EN 8 on Android is not supported, and this since more than 2 years now.

All data models native to the new clients like your v10 client on PC mean nothing to this old code platform. So instead of showing it, it will tell not compatible, or will show nonsense. Update on Android to the v10 client to work seamlessly between clients.

Hello,

thanks, but at the moment I can't update because I have to buy a new Android device first.

I can't like at the moment because I've already given several likes.

Hello,

It's an old Motorola Moto G5.
Android 8.1 is installed.
There is no further update.

Evernote 8.13.3 is installed

Which Evernote version do I have to install on my PC before I buy a new phone?

If I temporarily uninstall Evernote 10, do I need to back up the notes first?

Best regards

@RegorYou really have the options

1 Accept the fact that your Android app will not work well with the updated PC v10

2 roll back your PC to the old Legacy version

3 Upgrade your phone to one that find Android 10 or better

2 will probably give you least grief and expense for the time being but Legacy will, eventually, die.

Hi,

Thanks for letting me know what my options are!

Which Evernote Legacy version do I need to install on my PC until I get a new phone?

Is there a link to the Evernote website where I can download the latest Evernote Legacy version?

If I temporarily uninstall Evernote 10, do I need to back up the notes first?

Best regards

You can load a v10 client on Android 10 and above. Below, you are stuck with EN Android 8.3 (I think, that’s the latest version).

EN discourages to install legacy. Since a phone with Android 8 is likely 5 years old now, maybe think about a replacement.

Back to this specific question: if you search the forums for "checkbox" and "checklist" you will find several threads discussing how this has changed in Evernote 10, and the fact that older versions of Evernote do display it as a bulleted list.

I also was using Evernote 10 on a computer and Evernote 8 on my phone (until I was forced to get a new phone by bricking the old one--literally, I dropped it on a brick porch and shattered the screen). I found that it worked fairly well with notes created or edited on the new version, apart from annoying display issues like that. I don't think you are at risk of losing any data in the phone app, and it could be safe, if inconvenient, to work with both till you can get a new phone. My opinion only.

If you search the forums you will find a current link. Your data is stored in the cloud you do not need to back up data if you uninstall.

I found a link yesterday.
However, it leads to an external page (web archive).
Can Evernote not provide a link to its own evernote.com site to ensure the user is safe?

Unfortunately, I can't make a direct request to Evernote.
