Allow sorting of reminder lists with earliest due date at the top

Joe Pairman

Idea

On iPhone and iPad, the reminders with the furthest away date show at the top. I would like those with the earliest date at the top, since they need focus first. Especially the overdue ones!

This could be the default, or an option, or something that's picked up from the setting on the web or Mac version – I don't really mind which. But currently the order is fixed at the least useful one for me, unlike the Mac version where I can change the order to one that makes sense. I've attached screenshots. The first is iPhone, the second is Mac.

I did do a search but the related ideas don't seem to be for exactly this request.

  • These ideas mention the sort order but the main request appears to have been delivered? (I.E. non-dated reminders last.)
  • This idea is about sorting search results, not the normal reminder list.
  • This one mentions a sort option that I don't see at all now.

Hi, my iOS (both iPhone and iPad) devices show earliest date at the top.  The iOS Evernote is 10.4.

Thank you for the reply! That's very odd. I'm on 10.4 too, and I just tried deleting and re-installing the app. Still the same.

Are you in the reminders view? Do you see any sort options? (I don't.)

Here again is what I see – so you see a different sequence on the same view?

There is no sort option. I create the same reminder as yours. It is exactly reverse order as yours.

Thanks for sharing the screenshot! I've started a support ticket as this doesn't seem to be a product feature request as much as an issue, as it's working OK for you. I'll update my original post depending on the progress I make with Evernote support.

I'm with Joe on this one, however with a a twist. It depends on my IOS device (I'm running the current version as of today 02/10/21).

On my iPhone, the default reminder sorting order is by reminder due date. Perfect! Which is good because... as mentioned... there are no longer sorting options.

On my iPad... same version... I have no idea what it using for sorting. It is not reminder, created, or edited date. I see no reason for the order of my list. Since I run with about 150 reminders every day, completing between 50 and 60 each day, this makes my iPad useless which was very painful since, until this morning, the Mac version was also not being terribly helpful with reminders (the legacy version is rock solid).

Anyway, I want order options, and at least, consistent ordering on devices with reminders sorting by due date.

Thanks @AgnesP. Yes, the update helped a ton. The reminders are now ordered by due date, however, they are ordered in the inverse direction of what seems to make sense to me, with upcoming reminder dates at the bottom rather than at the top. I have to scroll for quite a while to get to today's reminders. Any chance this can be reversed, or provide a sorting option once again?

I appreciate the update. I know and trust Evernote will keep working to get things right, and I definitely appreciate the support of more "power-user" features. It keeps me here and keeps me recommending Evernote to others.

For me, the reminder is still showing the same sort order as 10.4 (as my screenshot above).  The earliest on top, the latest below.  Somehow, it works for me, but not for @david grant and @Joe Pairman.

@TonyLim, on my support ticket, @AgnesP explained that actually the order on my device is the designed behavior at the moment (though Evernote intend to add a sort order option in time).

So you’re experiencing a bug that actually improves the behavior, at least from my point of view!

Thanks for reporting this discrepancy! To confirm, we released Evernote for iOS 10.5 yesterday. Do reminders with the latest date still show at the bottom for you @david grant and @TonyLim after updating?

Hi @AgnesP

Im also having the inverted reminder issue. This happen suddenly last week on my iPhone but working fine on my iPad. I've opened a support ticket but was told by a Tech Support Specialist that it was normal and an expected behavior.

Not sure if that is an expected reply from Evernote Tech Support really when the first support representative told me there's an issue.

It's strange that asking to be able to display Reminders on iPhone, by the most current dates displaying first,  is so difficult for the Evernote Team to provide, especially since this was available until recently. Why would anyone want to see a display that shows a far future Reminder (say scheduled 2 years out, in 2023) first on their display view? So, the Evernote Team (as they often do) have taken something that was working perfectly well before, and broken it. Could we please (please) request the Evernote Team to un-break this display, so we can see a Reminder display order on our iPhones with the  most current due date FIRST? It would be greatly appreciated by many. You could also get innovative and actually give us an option to sort this display order either way (no, this is not difficult to provide). Thank you in advance. Meanwhile, I'll be also looking for other alternative apps, that try hard to give us the functionality and flexibility we need (and deserve, as customers). Thank you

this is exactly what I see here - the most current due dates are at the top - as expected. The only issue I have is, those reminders without a due date are the most first ones followed by those with most current due dates - I‘d prefer the see the „without due date“ reminders at the buttom.

I'm so confused.  I use my Evernote on a laptop and on my Android phone.   I've been using since 2013 and have approximately 1,500 notes.  Prior to the update , my phone always showed reminders by upcoming due date, it was perfect !  Now the options are not helpful at all - note created and note updated.

Also, if I have 30 reminders for a day, maybe only 5 pop up and I'm not able to click on reminder and go directly to that note anymore.

Is it a compatibility issue or something else?

again, prior to 2 weeks ago,  the app worked PERFECTLY for me

Please advise, thank you.

Confirming that the order of the reminders is now with the most current at the top after the update. That's great!

Thanks.

Yes, I can see that now too. Thanks for pointing this out, and thanks of course to the Evernote team for fixing this!

Newest version (and I noticed it before) back to no ability to sort by due date.

- a bit of a step back.

It seems this should always be the ONE view. If you can have ONE view on reminders, it should be by due date. Other filter or orders would be additional options.

Same issue on iOS / latest version of Evernote. For me, the reminders that are due in 2023, etc are listed first (at the top), I have to scroll down to get to my “current”reminders (ie April 2021), followed by reminders with no dates.

This makes no sense.

The intuitive sort order when looking at your Reminders should be as follows:

1) Overdue reminder (those with dates prior to today) - these need most attention

2) Current reminders(today)

3) Future reminder (tomorrow +)

4) reminders with no due date
