  1. Bug: when you delete a note (in the trash as well) with a forward link in it , the corresponding backlink in the referred note is not removed. The backlink sits there forever and there is no way to get rid of it.

Edit: the backlink is removed after a couple of minutes

The links reporting is just that, a reporting of links that already exist. So they don't link anything in anyway differently to the process that has previously been in place.

I just exported an ENEX of one of the notes displaying backlinks. I see no reference to the linked note in the ENEX.

However, you cannot opt out of these backlinks other than by choosing to not link notes together.

    HTH

Yes, the backlinks don't have to be saved in the enex because they could be derived from the forward links. However, the forward links in the enex are dangling pointers to   unspecified note ids. For some obscure reason note ids are not part of the enex format.

That means that forward and backward links are lost when porting your enex to another note tool or even evernote itself.

It ran natively from 2006/7/8? until 2020 and seems like they kind of got stuck to me. Is there another second-brain tool out there like Evernote that runs natively on Web, MacOS, iPadOS, iOS, Android, Windows and Linux?

Native mobile clients may be sufficient already

That's my thinking too... that would be like 4 years (? or more?) worth of work down the drain.

And how much "diligent work" is already down the drain by endless attempts to solve the side effects of the unified code base approach (sync problems, note duplication, performance...)  ?

Competitors reconsider native implementations as well,  Notion for instance recently redesigned their mobile apps using native components: https://twitter.com/notionhq/status/1549787378633412614?lang=en 😏

Evernote Windows client keeps getting slower & slower with every update?  To ALT+Tab to switch between 2 programs to copy & past text takes on average 30-60 sec before I can past & see the text.  Is there any know fix for this?

It is sad that I must use the web UI to do a less than 5 min update to a note.

On my windows client 10.50.10  it's instantly...

I downloaded the legacy OneNote importer back in March, and that’s what I used.  Unfortunately, MS removed it from their OneNote site.   Of the ~5,000 notes I imported, only 30 lost some information due to handwritten elements in the them.

Good to know that there is a EN alternative but out of curiosity I  installed One Note again  and it seems even more bloated  and counter intuitive than before, no dark theme either...

Works just fine for me on Windows. That said the new limit of 100 selections is more than sufficient for me.

Yes, on windows overridden settings in the config.json aren't touched by a new update. Sure, the 100 selections are sufficient for daily usage but not for reorganizing notebooks and global tagging. EN should fix this first before terminating legacy completely.

Yes! I'm having the exact same issue. It just started about a week ago, so probably right around the same time around 12/4/2022 (not sure of the exact date).

I've isolated it to long notes, on the web version of Evernote, using Chrome browser. It freezes, or rather shows "not responding" everytime. I left it for over 30 minutes one time, and it never "unfroze."

Short notes on Chrome: no problem.

Long notes on Firefox: no problem.

Long notes using desktop (Windows) version: no problem.

Clearly, something changed to cause long notes on Chrome to freeze just about a week ago.

So here's hoping they fix it. At least you and I know it's not our computers!

Can please specify more precisely how long your note is (in MB)

I have no problem with a note of 100 MB of images or with a text note of 2MB but I have to say that my windows PC has 16 MB of ram and 1TB SSD

Oups, JavaScript for small-granular syncs with a far-away located server farm?  I'm afraid of seeing a not only minor problems coming up...

Yeah, I agree but I'm afraid that's the best we can expect from this generation of web developers : everything is written in  layers on layers of bloated javascript code.

Normally I'm with you. But in this case (changing sync methodology) I'm afraid of seeing a not only minor problems coming up.

There is some hope that collaborative editing will work because they probably haven't implemented it themselves. I think/hope they've integrated one of the existing proofed javascript libraries for that. Of course they can still mess it up in the integration, but at least the core functionality should run smoothly.
