Quite interesting, thanks for the screen recording.

When you returned to the notes list view, the first note shows already the "I need to sync" triangle. But it has no title. Then the first word of the title shows up, and a moment later the "5" that was added later.

This is something I never observed in the iOS client, not even on hardware from 2014 (iPad Air 2) and 2015 (iPhone 6S+). Amazing !

To carry the idea further: If it would sync while the note is still not "complete", a note conflict would be IMHO highly probable.

Yeah, and this is still relatively fast since I just reinstalled everything. After a week, it"s already much slower.

But have you noticed the actual problem that when back in the note list, I clicked several notes attempting to open them, but the client was unresponsive from then on, for hours, until I restart the client (although everything is synced, I checked that in my other clients)

Perhaps that's why I couldn't reproduce it: I'm just not as fast as you young people. Perhaps Evernote is trying to encourage you toward more contemplative note-taking.

It happens at slower speeds as well, but there is a higher probability when acting faster than your phone or the EN server can handle.

Your high end  S22 phone is much faster than you, therefore the race condition bug will occur less frequently.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_condition#In_software

High quality software should use proper software mechanisms to protect itself against all potential race conditions.

Not seen one of those before.  Is the neutron process an Android one,  or something to do with Evernote / Electron?

I think this name was invented by the EN developers, but the more interesting part is the schizophrenic state the system is in: part of the system thinks that the editor is still busy although it has been closed, fully synced and we are already back in the note list for hours...

Unfortunately, the problem is there again, probably caused by an unhandled race condition. I'll investigate it further tomorrow...

I've sent the  activity log to support with the proper timestamp

"ERROR: neutron:  Note editor not saved, because editor is not ready:"  it stays in this deadlock until the app is restarted

This is a typical race condition: I can reproduce this easier by very fast note creation/closing  (a small title and a single word in the body and closing immediately, all this in a few seconds).

I doubt that this will arrive at the developers' desk, considering my previous unresolved tickets concerning performance and sync problems...

@eric99 - this is more magic than tech,  but one thing Support had me try was to temporarily change my default notebook to another one,  save a couple of notes and then switch back.  Can't actually remember if signing out and back in / restart device figured in there,  but you could also try those...  When I switched the notebook back to my original default things seemed to be better...  it may also help if you cross your fingers

thanks for the tip but it didn't help.

In the mean time, after complete uninstall/reinstall, I can't reproduce the problem anymore (so far)

Maybe, the timing is different after the fresh install which makes race conditions less likely or there is a version incompatibility (my app was reinstalled just before 10.50 arrived, so a corrupted database or something like that was probably not the root cause)

@eric99, I'm not seeing this at all. Does it happen with any note you edit, or just a particular one? You know the drill: uninstall, restart the device, reinstall (and you may already have done that). What kind of phone are you using.

Yes, I already tried to uninstall etc but no avail.

It can easily be reproduced by creating a new note on the android client. After closing, the note list is displayed again and it looks completely normal. The new note is synced on my desktop as well. But my android client refuses to open or create any other note from now on, it just stays in the note list, clicking does nothing anymore.

When I stop the app (no logout, just stopping) and restart, everything is fine again until the next new note.

  7. Did the update as well, and there seems to be a dramatic regression unfortunately. After editing a single note and closing it, the android client gets unresponsive until I stop the android app and start it again.  This is 100% reproducible. It seems to me that developers have lost control of the Android client and don't really know which screws to turn. It goes from bad to worse 😕

I've seen this behaviour in the 10.49 as well, but then I reinstalled from the app store and got 10.48 which doesn't have that problem

I know it's been mentioned in other threads, but for a while now the checklist strikethrough "feature" has been an option that you can turn off. The default is "on", and it's still annoying that every software update resets it to "on", but I've gotten used to turning it "off" again after each update.

Thanks for the tip, I didn't realize that the striketrough can be turned off. But in that case, @PuddinHead's shopping list problem has been solved I think ?

I don't know about you but I am very much looking forward to seeing new features from EN under the new owners.

I'm confident there was a feature/function queue when Bending Spoons did their due diligence before purchasing EN.  And I would bet that queue was at least influenced by the many great suggestions from us - the customers.  Add to that the increased competition in this genre...

So, I'm looking forward to the next EN release..

I hope the new owner is smart enough to finally fix the foundations first before allowing anything new on top of it

Anybody else having problems with missing preview pics/"thumbnails", with notes from the android app?

I was in contact with support about this in january. As usual, they couldn't/wouldn't help. haven't heard anything from them since, and the problem hasn't been fixed yet.

    Seems that:

    • when taking a picture note, or adding a picture in a note, the thumbnail doesn't work.
    • when adding a picture as an "attachment" in a note, the thumbnail works [almost fine, it just  doesnt's recognize picture orientation]

Thumbnail in drawings and web-captures from android app works ok.

Yes, I have the same problem, but it doesn't bother me because I don't use the terrible slow android client anyway  (shooting a photo and saving the note takes minutes)

Better a one time bet of 25 USD on a promising product focusing on pure usability and speed. Than 100 USD per year on a company that cancelled their native apps two years ago and never catched up performance.
Well this is not meant literally but wow, look a the pureness and fine details of UpNote. Super fast native app on mobile which is essential for quick note taking. Even the desktop app is much more responsive than EN. You feel there is a real dedication for the core note taking product - no comparison to EN development.

I started doing some tests on Upnote. The first and most important feature is export to prevent vendor lock-in:

Upnote's html export is far more superior than V10 in all aspects:

    • different from V10, upnote html has working links to all note attachments and these links are relative links into the html folder structure. This means that the html export is self contained and can be moved to other locations in your file system.
    • for a small note, the html size is 1 KB only, with very clean html code underneath. The same note in V10 html takes 354 KB with very bloated unreadable html code underneath and still no working links whatsoever!

And the whole upnote product has been developed by two developers only. Bending Spoons made a big mistake not buying this company. Make these guys the EN chief architects. Maybe they can still save evernote...

My intention was to copy some of the notes. In the middle of the data copy (when I selected it). At this point my selections disappeared. Then the note was saved and some of the data disappeared. I did not delete the notes. How can I recover that lost data?a

Next time, you could undo ( ctrl-z )  the delete...

Right. Well, I've just sent them a rather firm letter to announce my intention to stop payment.
I never actually wanted an upgrade to "Plus" when they attempted to force me out of other legacy features, but felt backed into a corner by way of time, circumstance, and lack of knowledge re: alternative options.
Now I have had ample time to give Bear Markdown a try, and their notice of increase in price has come at a very bad time for them––especially considering the fact that I could not give a toss about any "new features" being added to a program used (on my part) mainly for notes and very simple shopping lists. Anything creative ends up being lost in the mix, so Bear is far better suited for such. Demanding $50 per year for an app, especially during what looks to become the most disastrous financial collapse in recorded history, is flagrant extortion.
I may continue to use the "free" version, but am no longer feeling even remotely inclined to go along with any more of this nonsense.

from 35 to 50 USD, isn't that 43% increase, not 77%. Where is that percentage  coming from?

hey just got my spam mail about 40% off Personal.   I logged in and checked... $80 a year.  I'm trying to find the punch line, as this has to be a joke.  $80 a year (AFTER the 40% off) for Personal?????   Personal.. $80, after the 40% discount..   so normally it's over $110 for personal, per year?  I guess Evernote gave me the Notion to stick with someone else.

Isn't it even more, $133 instead of $110 per year ?

The more plausible explanation is that they probably "forgot" to apply the 40% and charged the full price of 80 dollars...

What does support say about this 'price discount' ?

I don't doubt that AI has already opened and is going to open up a whole big can of worms, but that particular issue wasn't really an AI-specific thing though was it? It was a bug with an open source tool that they were using and similar cross-over of account information could happen to any type of software service -- even those not using AI.

What this proves is that chatGPT technology is to premature to be used in EN, Notion or any other real world application where sensitive data is involved.

"...OpenAI says it's unable to delete specific prompts from a user's history, adding that people shouldn't "share any sensitive information in your conversations..."
