  1. Don't panic - I'm not jumping anywhere!  I'm definitely one of the 'sticking with' group - watching the ongoing panicfest with complete disbelief.  I paid for Evernote from the time I worked out it was a good piece of software that did a necessary job for me - purely on the basis that no-one works for free,  and giving Evernote some revenue meant they could stay in business and develop better features for me to use.  I still haven't found anything that does the same job,  so I'll be staying here for the foreseeable future...

Link to copy and paste would be sooooooooo simple and soooooooo obviously valuable.  And would vastly increase Evernote users.  Is this toooooo much not so common common sense?  Yes?  I thought so.

<Sigh> You haven't actually said,  in any of the several threads to which you're now complaining,  which Evernote version you're sharing from.  Whichever it is,  please find the "public link" for your note,  and share that.  Anyone you send the link to will be able to see it.

  3. Hi.  Sorry to respond with what's going to seem like total overkill,  but 1) this post is something I can point to when mentioning this app again,  and 2) you may find the other features interesting anyway - provided you're a Windows user.  Seems to me in this case that when you're merging two accounts,  some bulk note handling might come in handy.

(Although I have to ask - have you thought of just sharing the basic account's notes to the premium account,  or switching between them?)

Let me introduce something produced by a developer who seems to specialise mostly in OneNote add-ins - it's Evernote Batch,  via OneNote Gem - http://www.onenotegem.com/evernote-batch.html

This,  as briefly as possible is a list of its features:

    Calendar

insert 1 or more 1-month calendar tables into note(s)

    Clear Note Content

of selected notes, just keep title.

    Color

     change background and text colors

    Create New Notes by List

a reverse 'table of contents' feature. Create a note from each single line in a TXT file.

    Duplicate Notes

search for and delete duplicate notes based on tests from 'same content' to 'similar title/ content'

    Hyperlinks

remove all hyperlinks in checked note(s)

    Line Spacing

change the line spacing of notes in selected notebooks

    Note Titles

alter or delete title(s) of selected note(s) with search and replace feature + sequential numbering

    Outlook Notes

import notes from an Outlook HD folder to Evernote

    Rename Notebooks

     Search & Replace renaming

    Stacks

import or export Stacks containing one or more notebooks (good for shared hierarchies and templates)

    Table Columns

distribute column widths equally across a table

    Table of Contents

create a TOC for any bolded text in checked note(s). Links are created to that bolded text.

    Table Style

insert one of 35 column and header layout and color styles

    Tags

delete empty tags / export and import tag tree structure (good to set up new devices/ shared groups)

    Tags

remove all tags in selected note(s)

    ToDo items

remove all checked todo's in checked note(s) / sort checked todo's to the bottom of the note

Seems to me that some of these are features Evernote users have been dying (they posted) to get hold of.

There's a few disclaimers to go with this -

    • This is a paid-for Windows-only app which requires on first install that you downgrade your EN installation to v5.2 (via the link provided) and then re-update.
    • I have no connection with the software house other than being a (paid for) user and haven't used all of this app's features,  so YMMV
    • The app messes directly with your database,  so there's a potential to cause complete chaos if you're not focused.  Be careful,  sync often and KEEP BACKUPS!!
    • Evernote has changed the design of its database from time to time,  and whatever hooks this app uses could be engineered out of the picture at some future time.
  4. I take the laid back Curationer approach.  I search for stuff I want,  changing search terms and tags/ titles/ keywords until my search gives me a close enough match.  If in course of that I see duplicate or old notes,  I may kill them,  tag 'archive',  or export to ENEX or another basic account.  Depends on how awake and enthusiastic I am at the time.  Unless Evernote is giving me capacity or speed problems (touch wood,  it's not..) I see no point in spending energy keeping it looking pretty.  As long as it does the job...

    +1 with a twist:

I would love to have an auto-archive... or an expiration-date for notes.  For example, if I take a photo of my airport parking location , I'd like it to auto-expire a few days after I get back from my trip.  -OR- if I create a note from shipping details, I'd like it to auto-expire after my shipment arrives... etc.

    Anyone else?

Hi.  If you wish to raise a suggestion for a new feature or a change to the present actions or content,  the best place to do so is in the Feedback page for your main OS.

It's accepted that if a feature is adopted for one device,  it will - eventually - make its way to all of them;  but short term if you want something new in Windows (for example) suggest it there, and you might get lucky.  Votes from others who want the same thing will help make it more likely.

Bear in mind that some simple changes may already be in a pipeline somewhere,  so you'll see results quickly.  Others,  although the change is small,  may require major rewrites of something fundamental before they can be implemented - the recent and continuing Editor changes for example have been running for at least 2 years.

You'll probably get plenty of suggestions for 'work-arounds' and some of us will have different ways to get to the same(ish) result.  None of that is suggesting that your suggestion won't be implemented - just that Evernote has the reaction speed of an Oil Tanker when it comes to braking and hard turns,  so you might have to wait for a while before your brilliant idea is actually available...

You'll need to post your ideas in one of these -

  6. Until we have a generic Feedback page,  these sorts of request are best raised under your OS-of-choice Feedback thread as a votable idea.  If everyone clicks on their respective link,  Evernote have a measurable indication of the level of interest,  and (may) be more inclined to take action.

There's also a (non-votable) New Forum Feedback page where you could suggest that an all-OS Feedback page should be set up so as not to 'split' the voting for features that affect users across device divides.

  7. There's no way to switch the left column off AFAIK - the 'old' web version seems to allow more shrinking than the new layout (change back in "settings").  Depending on why you want to change the layout,  another app that displays note content might be an option - off the top of my head CardDesk and MohioMaps offer very different views of notes;  there are many other integrations which may suit for your purpose..

Man, this is driving me crazy.  I need to select many tags to grab a bunch of notes and move them to another notebook.  I am using desktop client on Mac.  I want something like command+ mouse-click, mouse-click.... etc.  No key combination I try works.  I've tried searching the usual places for answers.  Please help!

Hi.  Why do you need to select 'many tags' and how does it go wrong?  A search with multiple tags will get you your list of notes,  and if they're going to different notebooks you could use a temporary tag on each block of notes with the name of the destination notebook (plus a generic MOVE! tag) to make it easy to find all of them again and drag/ drop into the correct places.

  9. The editor package was being updated and rewritten to be portable between all Evernote versions,  which (theoretically) makes it easier to introduce new features across all products without Windows users or Mac users complaining too much about being left out.  A 'new' editor was released for desktop and mobiles a little while ago,  which will presumably be the basis for future upgrades.  I'd imagine work continues,  although Evernote don't (usually) give progress reports.  And yes,  I agree a format painter would be a great additional tool!

  10. Google Maps has a 'your places' feature which allows you to place and save markers on a map which can be shared with others.  I believe it's also possible to link between a location and a note,  so you could jump from the physical place to a property description and back.  Haven't used it myself (yet) but I took a quick look at what was available and earmarked it for a future project...

  11. Hi.  It's always useful to say what devices you're using when posting - sometimes features are available on one device that aren't available on another.

We're a user-supported forum,  though Evernote staff do drop in from time to time,  but we don't know,  and they don't (usually) say,  anything about features and timescales.  Keep an eye on new updates for your device(s) and you'll know if/ when this becomes available.  You could also raise it as a feature request on the feedback page for your particular OS.

Annotating a PDF is a bit more complicated than editing text in a note,  so I don't know how practical it would be to allow inline annotation.  I don't think it's something that a lot of users would require - but then again you could assess the support from a feedback page,  which includes a voting option.

  12. I sympathize with the problem,  but let's not panic here.  Evernote have thousands of user feature requests listed,  and - judging by the other main threads on this forum - thousands of bugs to fix in a dozen different OS's on hundreds of different devices.

They aren't short of cash,  or intention,  but they have to prioritize - hence the voting buttons on threads like this,  which are meant to give some indication of what should be their next target.  Despite the impassioned support above there's a total of 1 (one) click for this feature.  If you'd like to see it get attention,  make sure you click,  get your friends and anyone else you can talk to to click,  and drive that number up.

As to whether you should stick with the existing situation with or without work-arounds - my best advice is: if you find a better a solution,  then use it.  Unless Evernote are close to releasing a fix for this as we type,  coding,  testing and releasing a new feature will have a timescale of months or years.  It ain't going to happen anytime soon...
