..I think they somehow ran into deep trouble with that framework-embedded app design. Maybe a bad framework choice, and now no easy way out.

That's it. Since the launch of EN10 Android users literally lost their Evernote on mobile and it never came back. Evernote being reduced to the desktop... It is so sad 😞

So yes @Paul A., management has to neglect Android client. CEO celebrates his success on EN10 without acknowledging anything about their obvious Android disaster. The blog post was a hard contest to read for Android users!

  2. Hi, generally I can even have the same note actively open on two instances of EN10 running side by side. As long as I do not enter edits at the same time (which means allowing around 30 seconds between switching devices) EN handles the syncing without duplicates. What still is missing is live syncing when editing, which has been standard on OneNote, Nimbus Note and so on for a while now. On these apps you can see the edits live on client 2 while typing on client 1... That way duplicates are nearly impossible when running all clients online. This also can boost collaboration dramatically when working on shared notes together. No idea, why EN still has not activated it. I would not believe they did a complete redesign of EN and kept the monolitic one note = one sync only concept. Syncing on the most little granular basis could save a lot of traffic.

@ntbrierlyI would suggest as well raising a ticket for the permanent duplication issue.

  3. To kick in as an Android user I just tested @Captain62's use case on EN10.27 app with Excel-file. Clicking once on the attachment (view mode) does open the excel/office app but it closes immediately. Obviously EN app does not handle the handover of the file correctly anymore. If I remember correctly this (opening office attachment right out of the note) worked before - except for PDF files which open inline-only which alone could be a reason to change the note app 😉 )

  4. I totally agree, compared to EN8.13.3 this is clearly a bug. Leaving a device screen on for several nights to (maybe) download some MB of notes is a ridiculous work around maybe for a week or two giving the devs time for bug fixing. But Evernote clearly not addressing this issue since the very Android 10.0 -  that is for over 14 months now - shows they even do not care about UX for the paying customers. A very bitter outcome to me. 😔

  5. There has been no substantial increase in app performance for months. Now been waiting for over a year .. in tech industry this is eternity. I doubt they are motivated nor capable of putting things right at all. We will probably never see a clean and fast performing EN as with native legacy client again. For new users relying on Android devices I would suggest not to start using EN at all because of this. There are more performant note taking clients on Android out there.

  6. I figured out, they only update if you start the app manually and let it open and in foreground for some seconds to a minute... but than you are already in the app and don't need the widgets...

So if you update data on another client and the app is in background or closed the widgets do never update. No kidding, it is designed as bad as that. No idea why they still haven't turned on push sync. We are in 2022 already...

  7. Just to confirm: 10.26 still does not address the image rendering bug nor any news from support about it. I don't know, why they don't care. Same images sometimes are shown, sometimes not (error: could not be rendered properly). Very bad if needed on the go, imagine you want to show a qr code or something and then this... already happened to me. My actual workaround: having a weekly updated import of the most important notes (via ENEX) in Nimbus Note which renders images fast and without probs on the same device. Gives me peace of mind and practice with potential alternative.

Yes, I can read. I’m an attorney. Let’s use basic analogy so you may understand:

A car manufacturer may not say or advertise anywhere that it takes dozens of hours or days to start the engine (or, for example, turn on the A/C), but you cannot escape the fact that the car is fundamentally defective if it takes that long.

Exactly my point. EN on Android until 8.13.3 could download the offline notebooks lightning fast for years. Now with the new "ever better" product EN 10.X the download of the exact same notes lasts hours or days what was done in seconds or minutes before - and you have to force your screen to be on for the whole time. Otherwise nothing is downloaded.  If evolving means pulling the brakes hard, that is simply ridiculous. The whole offline design seems to be a programming failure, since 10.0 - 13 months - exactly none development on that. Clearly shows they don't care about the paying customers... 😞

  9. I see this frequently even still with 10.24. It does not matter if jpeg oder another image file format. It is a bug of the software / EN system that support confirmed to me too many months ago but is unable or unmotivated or what ever to dive into as with many issues. Possible workarounds: cold-restart the app, if this does not work even restart device. Cache clearing/fresh install does not help. After a fresh install you (at least me) get exactly zero images displayed in your notes for the first 1-2 hours after setting up the app. To me it seems to be a design bug on how the EN servers perhaps pre-process and than deliver image data to the app or it's cache. But only guessing, obviously even EN devs don't know how to fix permanently.

  10. Hi to you all folks, and happy new year. I just installed EN 10.23.1 on another device and was faced again with stuck offline notebook download. 3 notebooks, all together around 20 notes. Only the frequent stuff. EN8.13. did this in seconds. I could not believe they did not fix this bug, which we saw since the very 10.0 - 13 months ago. I opened a ticket again, and guess what... they are still working on a fix.... well the exact same answer as with my original ticket 11 months ago...

As the even are not capable to fix main paid features I more and more get the impression they really got stuck in their framework experiment. Very sad. 😞

  11. Exactly that was the motivation Evernote wanted the user to believe. Not very surprisingly the Electron framework turned out to be the sluggish prison the Evernote app is living in since 12.2020 from the very beginning. Man, we are almost in 2022 now. I can see no way, they could evolve a really future proof product from out of this locked-in position. Adding features in a sluggish and unresponsive framework for what? I am really sorry, 13 months of going down, now rating at 3.4 😞  the green elephant did not deserve this disaster.

A50 and Tab A are different story since both of these devices have much less RAM compared to S21 Ultra. I'm pretty sure RAM (and other not top end specs) is a problem with these 2 devices. EN 10 simply needs a lot of power since it is a bad written app. It's not optimized app and needs brute force to work as fast as other apps on my phone.

Exactly my understanding of bad programming, too. Releasing a software which is designed on a foundation that literally excludes average devices is actually bad. I can open a note with 30 screen shots and some text in it in OneNote App within around 2 seconds (cannot time it correctly, it is too fast😄), Evernote gives me around 60-70 seconds to display the note... that is bad! Fortunately the average user base reflects this pretty well to Evernote in play store commenting and rating (already down to 3.4 btw). I wonder if/when they overcome to tackle the transition of the time critical code out of the sluggish framework.

  13. Just clean reinstalled Evernote on two Samsung devices with EN 10.22 and the image rendering bug is back again 😞

Every note I open denies to show any embedded image. Fun fact: EN 10.22 had no problems showing all these notes prior fresh installing. I am giving up on Evernote for Android. For a paid product, it is ridiculous having to deal with software, that cannot simply show some pictures. Sadly @Shane D. last update on this was in April 2021 would be nice to hear, if anyone is considering to bugfix this finally?!
