  1. Update: tried editing the note on EN win 6.25. This worked, but syncing in EN 6.25 now results in an error

Seems the note is still blocked for write access for legacy client... interestingly I can meanwhile open and work at the same note again in EN10...

Let's see, if it will get unblocked at some point of time if I closed all EN10-clients

my question is whether edited or newly created notes in your latest V10 can still be edited in legacy later on. Or in other words, is the database and note format still downwards compatible?

I just checked it at. New note created on Android 10.50.2...editing simultaneously on EN Windows 10.55.2 and Android client without flaws. Saving the note. Firing up EN f. Windows 6.25 -> Note is there. Seems downward compatible! 👍🏼

is your android version 10.50.2 ?

    Yes

And another pressing question: can you still view and edit the newly created notes in the legacy versions?

I will check lateron. I did not test it with new notes but edited existing ones I had already for quite a while.

  4. Seeing this now, too (I am on no preview program). I can open a note on several devices at the same time (tried it with Android, Web and Windows with latest official clients). Then I get an indicator that the note is opened by me on another device. I can see my typing in real time on all devices! Looks like something we waited and expected for a long time! Having no duplicates anymore. Maybe they do a staged roll out to users.

Unfortunately this real-time syncing only kicks in on the actively opened note. I still see no background syncing, no widget updating in background. All this is still missing, you have to open the app on mobile to wait for the syncing of your home screen, tasks and so on before you can get to work. Normal syncing in the apps has not accelerated. Still a lot to do for devs.

  5. @PinkElephantI think we got your point! So no need of commenting on every post that you see this as a no brainer.  Would make finding new information throughout this thread much easier. Thank you.

I investigated for other apps showing the same foot print of permanent writing to disk. On my installation UpNote for windows does this permanent writing as well. Both apps are using the Electron framework. Maybe the chosen framework is to blame here. 🤷🏼‍♂️

  6. Importing EN into UpNote also works quite well. Wow, the performance of the native Android app is outstanding even on low end devices. No way the react framework EN uses can ever catch up to this (as they have already proven in 2 painful years). They chose a one way street. Fortunately we have a choice. Signed up for testing in UpNote. If Bending Spoons does not switch back to a professional native app approach on mobile I likely will not feed the chubby elephant with a subscription renewal in 2023-09 anymore, too.

Hey, is anyone planning a 10-year-anniversary party for this request? I'd come!

Would come too 😆and maybe discuss all EN alternatives that do offer this little but nice feature. 🎉 Even the 2 or 3-men-company UpNote provides this feature. Some companies do care. Maybe EN has gotten too big, lost ground? 🤷🏼

  8. Better a one time bet of 25 USD on a promising product focusing on pure usability and speed. Than 100 USD per year on a company that cancelled their native apps two years ago and never catched up performance.
Well this is not meant literally but wow, look a the pureness and fine details of UpNote. Super fast native app on mobile which is essential for quick note taking. Even the desktop app is much more responsive than EN. You feel there is a real dedication for the core note taking product - no comparison to EN development.

To the actual topic in this thread: I will not buy new hardware (in my case Android devices) because of one and only app, the developers failed on, AND spent 100 USD per year on top for this failed product. My subscription is due to renew in 2023-09. Let's see, if Bending Spoons get their hands on anything EN failed the last years to this date. Meanwhile the (native) EN 8.13.3 Android app keeps running on my Android devices as EN 10.X is not usable because of the ongoing slowness.

  9. Welcome to the forums and sorry to hear about your issues. EN 10 on Android is known to still have some syncing issues (being slow, sometimes lagging, duplicating notes even while editing on only one device).

Please note, that EN10 has no automatic background syncing. For syncing to take please you have to open the app, sit and wait to run the syncing process with screen being on. This can last minutes if you did several jobs on the web or other clients as the Android client runs through the whole queue of changes since last time running. You can literally watch this queue in the "recent changes" widget on the EN homescreen while syncing is running. This waiting time is by - bad - design.

If this does not solve the issue. I would suggest now contacting support to let them know. Maybe something is wrong on their end with your account.

I keep trying to share a shopping list with my husband

Hi for this particular use case (simple list, seamless "real time" syncing without user interaction) I would suggest trying apps with a robust background syncing engine.

I am having very good results for your scenario with TickTick. Other nice apps would be Microsoft ToDo or Todoist.

(Evernote 10 still has no background syncing nor real time collaboration - so even if you get the sharing to work you will likely end up with duplicates or an outdated shopping list when in grocery store).

  11. That public link always leads to the actual content of the note which is on the server. All the years using EN it has never been a static copy in my use cases. So you can actually use a public link for dynamically updated content in your note which is a great feature of EN I think. Use it a lot for blogging like activities with the family or friends on vacation for example. Constant updates but keeping the same shared link 👍🏻

Home, tasks (now recurring), calendar events and now backlinks. Not sure what you're hoping for but the shipping of new features has been impressive since V10 was released.

Yes, some of the new features could have been impressive.

But...with EN10 they decided to stop developing native apps and changed to imprison unified code in frameworks. Performance has gone and never catched up. The old dev team even after 2 years was incapable of bringing this to the level you expect from a note taking app in 2023: That is being snappy on real world devices (not only top notch or on iOS). Using EN on an Android was and is a PIA if not running on the latest devices. That's why none of the new features are usable on my devices in an every day manner. Quick note taking, quick capturing -> go for a native app like Keep, OneNote.

I hope Bending Spoons with their skills in creating native mobile apps will get things right and make EN a technically future proof note taking app again on mobile.

(btw: as a paying customer I welcomed the lay off rounds of the Android devs / product manager for the above reason)

  13. That's unfortunately the way sync actually works. Every device plays down the list of changes instead if just changing the database with differential information from server. You can literally watch every step you made in the "last changes" widget when it is playing the queue through. On new installation this whole build up on Android can last an hour or more with screen on or forever if you dismiss the app because there is no background sync anymore since EN10.

  14. I just tried to test-open a paid account located in Germany. The pricings are shown after you type your e-mail address and choose a pass word. Got the pricing below. Don't know if they have risen. 70 € for a year of EN (only personal sub, yearly payment) in the current state of the product! Maybe they removed the prices from the initial landing page for being able to flexibly change prices in their subscription check-out area I tested... we will see what is to come.
