Thank you, @Kolmir  That worked.  Of course, I still can't use Grammarly in it since the two don't talk to each other through the Windows application ecosystem.  I had wondered about this when I read that installing the legacy version would solve the problem.  As I mentioned, I use Evernote mainly on the web, and there used to be a way to go back to "classic" there, but now it seems that only changing the editor is supported, and that does nothing to allow Grammarly back in.  This is too bad.  Grammarly was the only thing that had been keeping me on Evernote when both OneNote and Notion had better interfaces.  OneNote can't use Grammarly, and Notion's plethora of choices and connections makes it unwieldy (for me).  But Notion, even though it has a really weird editor interface (every line-feed creates a new block) uses Grammarly.

I want to stay with Evernote, but they keep stumbling.

Anyway, thanks again for your help.

    You're welcome.

I'm getting more and more used to OneNote (I will probably migrate most of my EvN notes there).

A like and use Grammarly often too. I'm using those hints to streamline my work with both tools https://getcodeless.com/grammarly-review/grammarly-for-onenote/

Totally disagree. What they are embarking upon now takes MASSIVE courage. They are rewriting the whole platform so they offer way more value down the road.

If you're this unhappy, you should seriously go back to 6.25 if you haven't already or go find a better app if you can.

    1. OK, I respect your opinion - maybe we simply look on two (other) sides of the same coin? Nevertheless, my opinion is still that this is more a recklessness or ignorance than courage. Where is this new value?

    2. Yep, I'm with 6.25 and considering to fork my current EvN notes into MS OneNote and Apple Notes :)

    3. More explanation can be found there

Because we still have access to the legacy version, and Evernote is still syncing to the legacy databases (Mac/Windows)
It's our choice if we want to participate in the v10 experience

    1. Legacy version isn't officially supported anymore. We are paying currently only for access to our data and nothing more. Some would call it a blackmail...
    2. New v10 installer should offer side-by-side installation as a first choice. (Knowing the limitations of v10, etc.)

  4. Quote

"we were out you know apple says the maximum number of users you can beta with in ios is ten thousand they don't let you go to ten thousand one no matter what um and in the moment you know we launched to uh you know one percent of our audience we immediately learned things that we hadn't learned in nine months it wasn't for lack of trying it's just the way software works so we have to stabilize everything first, and then we will deal with new platforms"

Seriously? DO they think that new platform is now stable, after a lot of bad feedback on forums? There are other ways to stabilize software by for example intense Quality Assurance and Acceptance Test Driven Development...

Number of beta users of iOS isn't a limitation. There is a simple workaround. Company can publish in AppStore two apps simultaneously: "EverNote Classic" and "EverNote Light Renewed" or something similar. They are just cheap and unimaginative instead. No courageous enough to admit mistakes.

I listened to the interview and found it really encouraging, I would encourage people to do that over reading the above, because oral habits have been transcribed into written word (um etc) it’s really hard to read.

    Thank you for reporting this.

Content is confusing. All about intentions. Nothing about being sorry about poor communication with (power) users and low quality standards. Nothing about honoring long-time advanced users. Nothing about the specific ways and means they want to use to get better. I can understand that it's hard to plan, but at least they should have some alternative strategies and coherent product vision plus high-level Product Road-map and Release Road-map.

If they plan to rebuild all in 12 months, the preview/beta stages should take a way longer. Preview should take next 7 months and beta another 5... Keeping in the same time fully supported "legacy version".

Unfortunately, it looks like living in a isolated "perfect world of the CEO bubble"... He speaks as a politician...

On one hand, it seems a little disrespectful to me to use Evernote's forums to discuss alternatives.  On the other hand, it benefits Evernote to understand why some are leaving and to which apps they are moving to.

    1. EverNote management disrespected us first by don't listening to feedback and providing unbaked versions.

    2. They probably quietly and unofficially support migration of advanced users. It looks like EvN blesses users who are meek and don't complain: for they shall inherit the EvN v. 10. 😉

What features are no longer supported in the new app?

This is not an exhaustive list of features, but the most notable include:

    • Local notebooks
    • Presentation mode
    • Context
    • ScanSnap Evernote Edition firmware and software
    • Outlook clipper

More can be added to the list

Nevertheless, missing features aren't the only problem. Other probably more concerning things are: total lack of a proper communication about the road-map and very poor quality of apps. They provided a buggy version as GA which in reality should be only a preview version, not even a beta.

It's like offering you new version of Netflix app, but this time without HD/UHD option, with 10x less movies/tv-series, but with a dark-mode... A version which resets movies during watching to the beginning every 15 minutes or freezes and not keep the list of recent episodes...

I think nobody is happy at the moment.

It may be a nice idea to save a few bucks, but I prefer they keep the money and work hard to release what we are missing in the current version.

Yep, I don't have any problems with paying for a solid hard/smart work. However, currently I have a feeling, that I'm paying mostly for hideous incompetence and outrageous lack of reverence for (advanced) customers...

Best might be a stretch. I am taking a short and long term approach. Short term, just in case, in addition to my normal backup procedures, I have dumped my entire EN catalog into Nimbus, Notion and OneNote. These were all easy to do, ran overnight, and it's there if I need it.

Could you please describe shortly which ways/tools you used to dump you EvN catalog into other apps?

Currently, I'm only aware of an automatic import tool for OneNote. On Nimbus web site only manual export/import is described.

BUT, now that they have their 2 years worth of work leveling out the playing field across all platforms, which is what they said their intention was, I'm still willing to hang around for a bit and wait for all the missing features to be implemented. I mean at the end of the day, their BIG mistake was to put this out now instead of waiting until all they implemented all the features.

We are seeing currently on Evn side following things: no integrity, lack of proper management, and poor engineering standards. No communication. No proper Quality Assurance.

Therefore, I afraid, that their 2-years foundation may be pretty weak and unstable. Building on that may be just as bad as building a house on swamps/quicksand...

EvN may be simply a sinking ship. An example of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_march_(project_management)

  12. I'm currently testing OneNote (full v.) -> Editor and sync works better than fine on all my platforms, only maybe some small UX complaints on mobile. There are scan tools and Web-Clipper from MS. I can also protect selected content https://www.groovypost.com/howto/password-encrypt-microsoft-onenote-notebook-section/

Next week I plan to try migration https://www.onenote.com/import-evernote-to-onenote

However, maybe we can do more, for example like all users of EvN will stop paying subscription at once or contact investors or maybe consider class action lawsuit? I'm not a lawyer, but maybe there is a proper way out? Or EvN just gone crazy... and we should abandon the ship ASAP? As long as we can migrate local notes...

If you don't like version 10, switch to a legacy version

    1. Legacy version is currently outdated and provided without support. There will be no more fixes, etc. It's not a proper approach.

    2. @DTLow do you like to pay your hard-earned money for poor functionality or lack of respect? Or EvN just pays you for positive PR? 😉

Management appear somewhat delusional giving the customer what they THINK they want rather than what they WANT...then icing on cake pushing out untested buggy "updates".

Cue a stream of evernote acolytes telling me all is well and if I don't like it go- but the point is I have paid for a service/application as in PAID and it is broken.

    1. Management may think, that they are Steve Jobs, and they may know what's better for us. 🤣 However, in reality they are much, much closer to Steve Ballmer 😜

    2. Now you pay twice - one for the subscription, second time as an "unofficial tester": with your time, efforts, and frustration about bugs, which should be found & fixed in the proper software development process (Quality Assurance, ATDD / TDD, etc.)...

@Kolmir, I'm also on 6.16.1. The problem does not happen with every note, but seems (of course) pretty random. I didn't think I was experiencing it either--until I did. So take comfort: it may be coming your way too! :)

My version has been recently updated to v. 6.17 - looks like Evernote team finally fixed our problem. Links are working properly for now.

Ah.  Sorry - operating under a bit of a handicap here.  For some reason I seem doomed to the beta version at 5.33 - I don't have access to the new UI yet.  Might be a geographical thing (I'm in the UK).

From previous comments on the Blog though I do still get the impression that Evernote are trialling new ideas here and we're still waiting for the final public release.  As a subscriber though you could contact Support to get some direct feedback...

Hi, have you tried to use different browser to enjoy versions 6 and above? Versions 6.xx were for a long time only available for Chrome...

Or have you signed for the Beta program?

Or just check in Settings - maybe there is an option to use newer ones waiting for you..?

    image.png.18adb6dd254719d6b05b88242f76142a.png

Yep, I have already contacted Support for this.

I agree - they are testing new ideas - it's a good thing, but if there is no more a Beta label/mark, such ideas should work properly.

Hi.  That's the beta version of Evernote web - by definition it has limited functionality and is being upgraded over time.

Are you sure about the beta status?

It looks like that any labels, which mentions "preview" or "beta" were removed from the interface with v. 6.14 (or even 6.13). I can't find any beta mark at the current moment.

Moreover, I can't even find the Feedback button...
