Hi all,
I’m happy to announce that we’ve made some big improvements and additions to search in Evernote, including new advanced search syntax, Boolean search, and geographic search!
New advanced search syntax
Advanced search syntax is now more powerful with the addition of a new category of “contains” items. Simply type “contains:” into the search bar to filter your notes by what type of content is in them—like calendar events, tasks, addresses, and more. This article shows the full list of items you can choose from and more info on using advanced search syntax.
Boolean search
For those who aren’t familiar with them, Boolean terms like AND, OR, NOT, and ( ) narrow down your search results so you can find the information you need faster. For example:
- “Dogs AND cats” would show you only notes that have both “dogs” and “cats” in them.
- “Dogs OR cats” would show you notes with either “dogs” or “cats” in them.
- “Dogs NOT cats” would show you notes with “dogs” in them, but not if they also contain “cats.”
- “(Dogs OR cats) AND birds” would show notes with either “dogs” or “cats” in them, but only those that also contain “birds.”
Geographic search
Some people who travel a lot need to find notes based on where they were taken—for example, at a conference, with a client on the road, or on a remote project site. Once you have the coordinates, you can search for notes created on a mobile device (with location tracking enabled) based on where they were created. For example, if you type “geodistance:37.49,-122.22,50km” you’ll see all the notes you’ve created within a 50 km radius of the Evernote head office. (You can also measure in miles and nautical miles.)
Boolean search and geographic search are both available to Professional and Teams subscribers.
You’ve been asking for these features for a while, and we’re excited to bring them to you today. Together, they make it even easier to find what you need in Evernote.
To get started, make sure you’ve updated your app to the latest version. If you have any questions regarding the recent plan changes, please see this article. Otherwise, feel free to start a thread in this forum or reach out to me directly here. Thanks!

Thanks for reaching out.
Unfortunately, we do not have the ability to provide assistance in the forums for billing related issues due to privacy reasons.
In this case, you'll want to open a support ticket.
You can do that by following the information here:

Thanks for reaching out, and for letting us know.
Our development team is aware of this issue and working on a fix. This issue happens when the left navigation menu is minimized and clicking on the green **+** button menu results in a pop-up that cannot be closed. While absolutely not ideal, here is a workaround that resolves most cases:
1. Go to **File > Sign Out [name]** from the menu bar.
2. Select the "Remove my Evernote data from this device" option, then click **Sign out**.
3. Restart your computer.
4. Sign back in to Evernote. Please let me know if you're still having trouble after following the steps above.

Hi all,
As some users have reported, we are seeing reports that some users cannot move past the “Introducing Tasks” screen when they open their Evernote mobile app.
If you have been affected by this issue, we apologize for the trouble it has caused you.
The root cause is likely that the size of your text, combined with the size of your screen, is pushing the “Take a tour” and “Remind me later” buttons (which allow you to move past the introduction page) off the viewable screen.
Our development team is aware of it and working on a fix.
Until the fix is in place, you can get past the “Introducing Tasks” screen by temporarily adjusting your default font size. Here are the steps:
- Open the iOS **Settings** app.
- Go to **Accessibility** and unselect "Larger text."
If that doesn't work, try the following:
- Open the iOS **Settings** app.
- Go to **Display & Brightness > Text Size** and move the dot to the smaller size (slide it to the left).
Once you can get past the introduction screen in Evernote, you can return your text size to your desired settings. The introduction screen is only shown once and should not be an issue again.

I've gone ahead and created a separate thread for your issue report.

Hi All,
Early access to Tasks has started rolling out and will be available to you over the coming weeks.
Tasks in Evernote help you stay on top of it all by making your notes more actionable and giving your to-dos the context you need.
Notes and tasks make each other more useful:- Add tasks directly to your notes to keep the things you need to do with the information you need to get them done.
- Streamline your workflow—when notes and tasks live together, there’s no need to keep switching between your notes and a dedicated task manager.
- Avoid information overload by capturing the details, actions, and decisions you need in one convenient place.
Take control of your day:
- See the right task, at the right time. Unlike standard checklists, you can set due dates and reminders on each of your tasks.
- Get alerts for tasks even when you’re not in Evernote, so important action items never fall through the cracks.
-
Quickly focus on what matters most by flagging important tasks.
Master your priorities:
- Get a summarized view of everything you need to do, or immerse yourself in the context of what you need to do now.
- Work your way—sort tasks by note, due date, or flagged status and use filters to focus on what you need in the moment.
- Changes to your tasks update instantly across every view and on all your devices.
Get early access to Tasks and start each day confident that you have a clear path to tackling everything on your plate. If you have feedback on Tasks, please share it with us here.

Hi all,
Great news! We’re giving everyone early access to our newest feature: Tasks, starting to roll out now and available over the coming weeks on the latest versions of Evernote for desktop, web, and mobile.
We believe that the information you keep in Evernote can work harder to help you achieve your goals. Tasks helps make this happen by allowing you to seamlessly connect your to-dos with the information you need to get them done:
-
Manage tasks from a central view or from inside your notes. Changes made in one place automatically show up in the other.
-
Connect your tasks to related information in your notes, including web clips, images, documents, and audio files.
- Unlike standard checklists, you can set due dates, reminders, and flags on each of your tasks—so nothing falls through the cracks.
This forum gives you a place to ask questions and chat with others about Tasks. Feel free to start a thread or reach out to me directly.
Please keep in mind:
-
You'll get all features within Tasks during the Early Access period. But certain features will be limited to specific Evernote plans when Tasks is officially released.
- Tasks is only available on our new apps and cannot be accessed on legacy clients. But if you’re not ready to make the switch to the new Evernote, you can still try Tasks by installing the latest version of Evernote for Mac or Windows side-by-side with one of our legacy apps.
To learn more about how Tasks helps you move beyond remembering to accomplish more, check out this blog post from CEO Ian Small.
Thanks for trying out Tasks. We’re excited for all the ways it’ll help you stay on top of your day-to-day.
Take care,
Shane- 6

Hi All,
I wanted to let you know that in the latest version of Evernote, you no longer need perfect punctuation to find what you’re looking for.
For example, “R.S.V.P” can be found by searching “rsvp” and “mother-in-law” can be found by searching “motherinlaw” or even just “inlaw”.
See below for more examples.
Watch this video to see this search update in action.
As always, feel free to start a thread if you have feedback, or reach out to me directly if you have any questions.
Thanks!Shane D.
