We fixed the known phone number formatting issues in a prior release of Evernote. Thanks,Chuck Link to comment
0 eridum 0
Chuck,This is in the Scannable iOS app. I do save all my business cards in Evernote but through Scannable. Link to comment
0 Helen Crozier 6
I just tested it in the Evernote app - the result when I scanned a mobile number which was in this format 0400 123 456 it came into evernote like (040) 012-3456 - still not super useful unfortunately.Scannable does the same.In Australia we have local area codes of (02) for landlines but the format listed above is the most common for mobiles. 0 Chris Jensen 0
Agreed, I'm seeing the same problem on the latest Evernote for Android, no options to fix this. Even just an option to turn off formatting and leave the number as displayed on the card would be a good start. Link to comment
0 Michel Verheem 2
YES PLEASE Change this to either: - Let us choose what format- Use the format as on the business card- Do not format at all Really annoying otherwise Link to comment
0 GenOz 0
YES PLEASE Change this to either: - Let us choose what format- Use the format as on the business card- Do not format at all Really annoying otherwise I agree it needs more options for customising how numbers appear as the current default is not working for Australian numbers or for storing international numbers. 0 lotsachutzpah 1
I am having terrible trouble with scanning in general on Evernote 1. on the Android system it changes its mind and decides to use photo instead of documents. If you want to change them to another format you must notice it before you save it otherwise its a permanent img 2. On IOS the camera is not working its crashing on my ipad mini Anybody had similar problems? I have been advised by support to downgrade. The point is why did evernote do this at all we had a perfectly good scanning system prior to April where you could choose business card or document etc before you scanned. Whats the advantage of automating this ? I can't see any other than dumbing down the system Can Evernote read this and change it back to the original system 1 Link to comment
0 renton 0
Hey Evernote! Can we please have an ETA on being able to change the default phone number formatting? I'm in Canada and this has been a pain for a long time now. Thanks. Link to comment

0 Rod W 2
I've just updated to the latest version of Evernote, and now I can't enter Japanese format mobile numbers which are ###-####-####. Totally irrelevant brackets are added, making the tool useless. Fix it, NOW! Link to comment
0 Level 5 PinkElephant 8,772 Posted April 28, 2021 Level 5 Share Posted April 28, 2021 NOW - uuuuuh, in CAPITAL letters. Now the EN guys will hide in the basement, fearing your furor. Sorry, will not come out to program that feature. Personally I doubt they will bloat their code just to introduce a country- and network-specific way of auto-formating phone numbers. And if it is, it probably is not in the DOITNOW-category of their backlog. Sounds more like the bling-bling that you are adding when everything else is done - from which state IMHO we are far away. 0 Level 5 PinkElephant 8,772 Posted May 21, 2021 Level 5 Share Posted May 21, 2021 There is no „correct“ format. There is a load of formats world wide, even starting with the country code, that may be 1, 2 or 3 digits. We have private numbers as long as some corporate numbers. For a business, the extension may have 2, 3, 4 or even 5 digits - and the whole number may be as long as some private numbers, that have no extension at all. Personally I doubt there will ever be a logic that sorts out number formats, for all countries, for all networks, for all situations, always correct. Be happy if they get all the numbers from the OCR, and the call goes through. The rest is IMHO wishful thinking. Link to comment
0 Rod W 2
There's no need for a special format. Since Evernote OCR is decades behind others like Google and everything has to be entered manually anyway, just make it an unformatted field, then everyone will be equally unhappy, but can still use the damn software for what it's intended. 0 Level 5 PinkElephant 8,772 Posted June 23, 2021 Level 5 Share Posted June 23, 2021 The number is usable, in whatever format. I could select it, copy it and paste it into the phone app to place a call - at least when I tried it last. The thread was started in 2015 explicitly asking to get the Canadian phone number format implemented. Since the business card feature is so basic, I use another app for this task - so for me the discussion is sort of academic anyhow. Link to comment
0 Rod W 2
"Since the business card feature is so basic, I use another app for this task - so for me the discussion is sort of academic anyhow." Then why are you hanging out on this thread wasting time? This is for people who use Evernote and want the 'so basic' function to work. In case you hadn't noticed, everyone, myself included says it doesn't work. Which is pretty poor for something that everyone is PAYING FOR. Link to comment
0 Level 5 PinkElephant 8,772 Posted June 23, 2021 Level 5 Share Posted June 23, 2021 It works, within it limits. This is nothing new, I tried it years ago and found it as basic as today. I decided I need something else. If you have a few cards, you can go with it ‚cause it will probably do. If you have a lot of cards, need an interface to Contacts or a CRM, it is the wrong tool. Yes, we pay for features, but this does not mean EN will replace all and everything just because they add something simple to their own toolbox. There is IMHO a long list of more pressing issues for v10. This is my opinion - feel free to disagree… Link to comment
