Exporting EN Notebooks

There is a long discussion on exporting EN data (notes and notebooks). Will someone at Evernote please explain why there is no facility - despite many requests - to export all notebooks in one move.

Hi.  Firstly this is a mainly user-supported Forum.  While Evernote staff do read these posts there's no telling whether or when they will get around to it - and even if they do read an item it's very rare for them to reply here,  because they will likely need some confidential information from the user and this is a very public forum.  If you need help or want a personal response - contact Support direct via https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us

Second - Evernote has rewritten the server-side architecture a number of times so probably had other priorities - there were and still are various ways to export notebooks individually to ENEX, HTML or PDF including a Github solution discussed elsewhere in the forums.

Your data is pretty safe with a complete copy of your notes and all their individual histories maintained on the server so Evernote may not have regarded this as urgent - but I agree with you it would be good to have an easy option to export the whole account.

I need to correct this very optimistic view (again) that is being repeatedly purported here in the forum:

as of V10.80.2 the export to HTML and PDF is broken to the level that it is unusable (all attachments are called "untitled attachment" and in the HTML files all hotlinks to the attachments point to NIL).

Also worth noting that unless your collection of notes is only small, it is likely that attempting to import a backup of all notes will fail because it breaches the data limits. Exporting notebooks has always been a one-at-a-time process from within the apps. The evernote-backup GitHub project uses the Evernote scripting to achieve this outside the apps.

@agsteele is right to mention it, "evernote-backup" is extremely useful. One can run it every day or every couple of days and can automate the process. I came to like it a lot. Recommended.

One big advantage is that it makes incremental backups. The classical ENEX export only knows to export „All“ every time. The backup job will only refresh the existing database with anything changed. 

Since it creates its own database, one will end up with 3 EN copies if a legacy client is still installed: One for v10, one for the legacy client and one for the backup project. Especially with large accounts this can be a bit overkill. If a server is available, it can be an option to install the backup project there as a Docker.

Thank you for the replies. While I accept that exporting all notebooks in one go might not be feasible, there seems no reason why one should not be able to select a number of notebooks - eg 12 - to export rather than having to export singles only.
